January Jazz. Second Verse, Same as the First!

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

If No Excuses November was a bit of a bust, I don't know what to say about December. I got sucked into the holiday swoon and fooled myself that I deserved to check out for awhile. There are a few days left, so my hope is that I managed to maintain my weight from November. I showed up for my fitness minutes, even though I fell a little short.

I'm participating in the January Jumpstart Workout Challenge, so I'm hoping that will help me be consistent with the workouts.

1/31/12 Weight Goal: 226 emoticon
Fitness Minutes: 2,000 emoticon emoticon

How I'm doing it:
Fitness: emoticon
1. Zumba/other cardio (60 min) 6 times per week
3. Strength (40 min) 3 times per week
4. 10 minute Jumpstart video every day

Nutrition emoticon
1. Stay in calorie range
2. Swap in the same food group
3. Track everything

I stalled in November and December, so I'm digging deep in January to make up for it.

Motivate Week 6

Monday, December 26, 2011

I was not a healthy role model this weekend. I got a stocking filled with chocolate. When I had one piece, I helped myself to three more. I'm sitting here shaking my head sadly. The holiday weekend was a wasted opportunity. I wanted to be that girl who lost weight during the most difficult time of year. I guess I didn't want it bad enough. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. And nothing feels worse than a belly of empty calories. Oi!

But like every other day, this is a new one! I started today with a great upper body workout. I graduated from 10 to 15 pound dumbbells. Woohoo! My biceps feel like jello right now and I barely trust them to raise my glass of water!

My nutrition plan has been a bust the past few weeks since I haven't been tracking. Those days are over though. Not only will I be tracking, but I'll be trying some of the recipes in my SparkPeople Cookbook that I got for Christmas :)

Congratulations on the increase in dumbbell weight and in fitness minutes! Those are definitely things to be proud of during the most difficult time of the year for diet and exercise! I know what you mean about the empty calorie guilt feeling -- the extra sweets seem so tempting, but they never leave you with quite as much satisfaction as you think they will after eating them. Good luck this coming week with your goals!

I'm with you on not sticking to a plan ~ but in a way, that was my plan! I decided to not stress about it, not over-do it, but just enjoy my weeks of holiday fun. Sometimes that included eating things I wouldn't normally eat, and that'a okay. I know that I have the confidence and motivation to get back at it full force once all the parties, dinners and holiday plans are over. I also know, that I'll get better at this, 'cause I want it badly enough. I am really looking forward to what I can and will accomplish in 2012! Thanks to you, and other Spark friends, and my family and friends here ~ I will do well! (Just not every day ~ not realistic!) I'm with you on this journey, Brenda!

Great plan! I agree about the belly full of empty calories ... still feeling a little off! Nothing some freggies and exercise won't take care of though!

Motivate Week 5

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

It's already Tuesday! Where's my plan?! Sadly, I'm in vacation mode. C'est la vie! Normally, I'd have a Sunday blog with the exercise and nutrition plan laid out. But I don't.

I'm going to Zumba tonight. I'm not sure about the rest of the week. I'll do my best to get some walking in and watch what I eat. But I'm really tired of tracking and being hard on myself. It seems pretty constant since I'm not perfect. Whah! Why am I not perfect?!! I wish I could hire someone to be healthy for me. Okay, complaint session is over. Time to get back with the program...

My nutrition plan is to track everything and attempt to stay in my ranges.

I think we all struggle with wanting to take a break from our crazy, fitness life. I know I do! When I am feeling that way I just try to cut down my activity and then jump right back on it. I can't completely start because, for me, getting started again is just brutal. However, I also know that I can't go at break neck speed constantly. Hopefully you will find some balance and get back on track. Your goals look solid though...good luck!

BTW, your resemblance to Drew is uncanny. I was like "WOW!"

We must be on the same vacation cruise ship! I've been in the vaca mode for maybe 2 weeks. I know I should squeeze in exercise, but I have so many extra things to do. If you can fit in a walk or two, I should be able to also.

I'll be back on track for sure with exercise on monday. I plan on hitting the gym that morning. Then DH & I can chill out at home or do whatever. No work for me that day, so no excuses!

Brenda this time of year is always tough to stay focus on our healthy goals but you know what girlie ... we Can do it! Lets concentrate on progress and not perfection and then take it on step at a time. Yes, we might stumble but if we pick up ourselves and continue to put one foot forward we will get there. We can do it. Lets make it happen!

Filling the Void

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Uh oh! I've gained six pounds over the first four weeks of the motivate challenge. I was sick, but the real problem was over eating. I need to find other ways to occupy my time when I eat out of boredom.

My weight goal is looking out of reach now, so I'll try to get back to my December starting point.

*big sigh*

Finding What Works for Me

Friday, December 16, 2011

I think I'm going to scale my workout days back from six to five. I've been planning six, but rarely make it. So, I'm going to stick with what's realistic instead of having one more thing to feel guilty about.

Five days is so much better than a year ago where I wasn't getting any exercise!

Five is still awesome... And if it's more manageable, it's definitely. Ether to scale back and meet the goal. Good work!
