Need some advice.

Saturday, November 23, 2013

Hey,
I have been trying not to eat out as my first step towards weight loss. I have lost weight before, but since have put it back on. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on what they do when hey are having an intense craving? Any ideas would help.

Thanks, :)

This is a bit late, but I recommend just trying to be mindful of the reason you want to eat. So often it is for reasons we don't even realize -- and I don't just mean "emotional eating," but more specifically, WHICH emotion is it? If you can close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and really just figure out which emotions you are experiencing and where you feel them in your body, understanding the situation that led up to this... that might be the first step to understanding why. The second thing I recommend is something that has helped me -- therapy. I've also been able to lose weight in the past, then gained it back, but it wasn't until I started working through my issues in EMDR therapy and the deep-seated issues with food that I was able to stop overeating. I still have food cravings, but I don't binge eat, I'm no longer using food as a crutch, and overall I am eating a much healthier diet now and losing weight slowly but surely. I also find that a lot of my food cravings are for healthier things now, like salad and nuts, which I would never ever get before, so I'm thinking maybe the cravings are natural, but the highly processed foods and stuff are difficult to shake because they are so addictive, and we often use them as a sort of a drug to numb emotional pain. I hope this helps.. good luck to you.

It's hard, isn't it. I found this article really useful. I can't leave a live link so you will have to copy and paste it I think.

If that doesn't work just put 'food cravings' into the search box and you will find it and other resources too. You WILL get there, don't panic. It's just a question of finding the right strategy for YOU.

Imaging having just finished the thing you crave. Once 15 minutes have passed after eating some yum-yum, the experience of eating it wear off. When you think about it, there's really not that much difference between eating something and pretending you've eaten it after few minutes. And the pretending doesn't make you feel guilty or add to your calorie count. If you can do this once, you can do it again and again with some practice.

It has been a while since I have been on Spark people. I went back up since. But, I am getting started again. I am starting by setting a goal not too eat out on my own. This has always been my biggest downfall. I really want too do this.!

So here's to getting back on the wagon!!

I think I have to set a similar goal myself. Getting food elsewhere is something that has put a damper on my waistline and pocket. Haha.

If you ever need support, don't be afraid to reach out. We are all here for a common purpose, to get healthy :)

Chat mode

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

I think we should invent a chat mode for spark people. Something where we could just talk too random people online who are in the chat mode. I think it would be a great way for support.
