Son's Wedding

Tim and I traveled in 2 cars to Staunton on Wednesday. (Tim made the arbor that Joe and Ashley were married under , and we had to transport it.) We got settled in and finished up our final projects.

Thursday I had a manicure, then we went to Sam's to get the food for the Friday night party. Instead of a Rehearsal dinner, the "kids" wanted a party - something less formal. Of course it was upstairs, so Tim and I got a work out carrying everything up 3 flights of stairs. I admit he carried all the heavy beer, wine & pop. Thursday evening Joe and Ashley got to town, so we were able to have a quiet dinner with them. Since we had a "suite", actually the upstairs of an older home with 3 bedrooms, they stayed with us. We had breakfast with them as well.

Friday flew by. Tim's oldest brother was in town early, so we had lunch with them and Joe joined us. Rehearsal was at 3, then "dinner" at a local pizza place. Then the party, which was great. There was lots of food (if you know me - you know this to be true.) The owners wife was the DJ. Everyone said it was a great party. Below is a picture.



After the party, Joe and his friend, Doug, spent the night with us. Doug's parents were staying at the same B&B, so we were all able to have breakfast together. I went to have my hair styled and Tim went to help set up the arbor. (He built it in 3 pieces) The weather was perfect: mostly sunny and warm.



Here is a picture from the wedding, which was awesome. The ceremony was uniquely theirs. From their "promises" . My son's were to cook her delicious dinners, be her tech support, and to keep her feet warm, which are always cold. Ashley's final promise was to be like the force - always with you. They also did a hand blessing, which was very touching.

The reception was nice too. This is a picture of the "parent dance" Tim and I dance very little, because we were busy talking to many of our family and friends, who all traveled many hours to be with us.

Sunday morning we packed up after breakfast, since we were leaving later in the day. We went to the Frontier Culture Museum with Tim's brother and wife.

Then Joe and Ashley were packed up and met us for lunch and a trip to the glassblowing shop in Staunton, Sunspots.

After our farewells, Tim and I drove part way home last night and the rest of the way today.

I now have a most amazing daughter, who makes my son very happy.

Update, sorry I have been MIA

OK, so right before Christmas Tim found out that he did have a job, but at a 10% pay decrease. After Christmas he found out that all the maintenance guys who worked with him were let go. Obviously Tim was moved to another position as one of 4 shift managers. Although he has worked at the plant for 32 years, he was not a member of the production department. So he got the off shift. He works Tuesday - Friday 4pm-midnight, and Sunday 8-4pm. This means that we cannot go anywhere overnight. He gets off at midnight on Friday and has to be back at work on Sunday morning. There's no such thing as a long weekend either.

My schedule as a teacher is totally inflexible, except during the summer - but where can you go with only 32 hours off at a time?

We have stuck with dance for the moment, but can only go once maybe twice a week. So we are not doing very well with learning new stuff. The dance practice parties are Friday night, which we can't attend.

I have to admit that I am tired of people telling me well at least he has a job. Yes, I am grateful for that, but our time together is very limited. He doesn't get home until 12:30 am or later and I have to be in bed, because my school day officially starts at 7:45 with kids. He leaves before I get home - my school day ends at 3:30 and he starts at 4pm.

OK, so that is my whining part.

We went to Virginia Beach mid-January for an engagement party for our son, future daughter, her sister, and Joe's fraternity brother. Joe & Ashley will be married in April; her sister & Doug will be married in June. A full year for their parents!

Otherwise things have been busy with getting little things ready for the wedding. I am having an Open House for them in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll get out to go dress shopping this coming weekend.

Thankfully the kitty continues to be good company for both of us. We finally settled on the name Cindy Lou Who, since she coos like a dove when she walks up to you.

So those are the good things and the crazy things going on right now. I hope now that Tim's schedule is more certain that I will be getting on Spark more regularly. I have been so down over all this that I really haven't felt like doing much. Plus it hurts to see my husband's reaction to this, so that hasn't helped either.

I felt I owed all my Sparkfriends an explanantion of my absence. Now I need to go cut up a baked chicken. My cooking patterns are changing too, since Tim isn't home for dinner. I have to do better with my evening meals. I'm working on crock potting and bought a magazine with lots of recipes. Many of them look awesome. So a chance to grow!

New Kitty

Well Bright Veterinary Clinic showed up on caller id last night, since we have no pets that could only mean.... Yes, they had a 4 year old kitty needing a home. She is a black and brown tortoise shell. She hid under the bed all evening, but visited us numerous times during the night. We left the bedroom door open tonight and she has ventured out to visit us.

She was in a family with teenagers, dogs and other cats. Apparently she was very stressed and having litter box problems. The office staff really like her and wanted a good home for her. Ellen, the cat lady, thought of us.

My son got engaged a week ago Friday. I couldn't say anything until they had told more friends. Here is a picture of the ring. It is my grandma's diamond and her grandmother's pearl. A date is not yet set, but next year sometime.

We had good news this weekend. I can't say yet, but I will soon.

Anyway, I need to get back on track. To do that I will track my food this week. Usually that is enough for me to lose weight. I eat much better when I am tracking what I put in my mouth.
