Hero's Half Marathon

Friday, May 03, 2013

The Hero's Half 1/2 marathon on Sunday was harder and easier than I thought.

There were bomb sniffing dogs. Yay puppies! And boo that we needed them and that I can't pet them.

There was a LOT of blue and yellow. Yay for all the fundraising accoutrement out there trying to do good. And boo that we need such things.

And because this race is in honor of our military and 1st responders, there was a LOT of uniforms. Actually...that was pretty much all yay!

And while I loathe to admit it, for the first time ever, I was last.

The best part? The sweep van was driven by a very cute and very sweet uniformed man that checked on me a couple times during the last few miles.
It started normal, but then he started doing things like offering me candy if I got in his van. He wondered allowed towards the end how I could pass up hopping in such a sweet ride. All the laughter got me through all my hurting.

And, of course, I got the sniffles several times. And while I blame allergies, they weren't the problem every time.

All in all, a very good tough day.

Whether you finish or not, it is always a success for trying. And even if you're in last, you finished (!) and you did what many people (including me!) can or haven't done! Keep up the amazing work! Yay, support for military!

Sounds like a success to me! I was actually kinda hoping I'd be last in my marathon (once I realized my 'plan' to finish in 6 hours was NOT happening). I was 3rd from last, I think. There's a special honor to being last in my opinion. emoticon

I love that he was offering you candy to get in the van. That's pretty hilarious. Great job! I can't even imagine doing that many miles!

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

I'll talk about my 1/2 a bit later, but first...

Got off work early yesterday to go to an event at Woodland Park Zoo. I should get off work early to go see baby animal more often!

Here are the not so little lion cubs

Too cute, had the opportunity about a year ago to visit the San Diego Zoo, amazing.

Adorable! One of my favorite zoos. We didn't have time to visit there last time I saw my Dad. Actually that was a year ago this month. So glad you enjoy the zoo as much as I do.

Chainmail running shoes??

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

I'm not sure how I feel about these. I've worn chainmail before and I can't imagine that they would be comfortable.

Anyone ever try these??

I think they look pretty awesome, and if I could afford the hefty price tag I just might give them a try but I am 'college broke' -- for those of you who have had to pay your way through undergraduate and graduate school, you know what I mean -- although I am certain I would have terrible blisters from barefoot walking, let alone trying to run barefoot.

Did anyone else click on the "natural running form" link in the article? It was about Kenyan runners who run barefoot and run at an average speed of less than 5 minutes per mile. That blows my mind!

They might be fun at a Renaissance Faire, but for actually running? All I see is blisters and sore knees.

Not me! I don't know which would hurt the most, running on the chain mail or being completely barefooted.

I can't imagine wearing those either. All I think about is pain each time my foot would land. Wow!
