10 things I learned on my first 1/2 marathon

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

First and foremost, I survived with only a blister (moleskin malfunction). I'm walking a little funny because it is (of course) on the bottom of my foot. Aside from that I'm feeling good.

Things I've learned:

1) Alternating running and walking is **not** for me on a hilly course.

2) I might think I don't need the Gu, but I should stick to my training regime with having one every 3-4 miles.

3) Have a check list to mark off so that one doesn't walk to the start....have to walk back to the hotel....and then back to the start. *rolling eyes*

4) Sometimes people say stupid things when trying to be nice. They don't get it so don't let it bug you.

5) It is okay to be last. Even when you think you are for the last 5 miles and it turns out there were 9 people behind you.....

6) Laugh. A lot.

7) Telling a cop " If you really wanted to serve the public, you would give me a ride to the finish line." Not only doesn't get you a will get a smart a$$ response.

8) Happy doggies that let you pet them if you let them lick you are one of the best ways to get back your will to keep going.

9) Calling a biker on the moto crew a "stinky doody-head" because he won't give you a ride to the finish line will not get them to change their minds. It will get them to laugh at you.

****For scientific accuracy, I tried this tactic several times and got the same result each time.****

10) When they say "You are almost there!" They are fibbers. Big doody-headed fibbers!

You my love are a ROCKSTAR!!! I loved this and I love that you kept your humor throughout! How about I thought that everyone ran the whole dang things...that's why I never ever considered one (course I have to get through my first 5K first), but now that I know that running and walking is an option and since I admire you for the warrior you are....I may have to add this to my bucket list...after the 5k then 10k then lots of prayer of course.

emoticon My daughters did a 5K with the family years ago, and got the cop to give them a ride in the squad car probably the last mile or so. They got out about 200yds from the finish and came barreling in like they had run the entire thing. Hilarious.
Congrats on your HM and I am really proud and happy for you!!! emoticon emoticon

Can I break up with my hormones???

Friday, April 13, 2012

I have been PMS-ing for longer than normal. If my hormones had stuck to the calendar I would have been done with TOM by now.

But nooooooo!!

I have gotten my warning sign (you don't want to know!) that I will start tomorrow.

Craaaap! That means I will be crampy / ache-y for my first 1/2 marathon on Sunday.

AND I want a big greasy hamburger!

Stooopid. Stoooopid. Stooooooopid.

Aaaaaaand scene.

At least you know when it's going to happen. I'm at the time when I get it every 2 or 3 months. It usually comes when I don't want it. Good Luck with your marathon!

Did you know that if you take calcium faithfully you can drastically lose the PMSing or get rid of it all together???????????????
I use to be a medical assistant at an OB/GYN and they'd come in and tell us the latest and greatest news on OB/GYN and the one that helped me and a lot of my patients was taking 1200 mgs of calcium a day , but you have to be faithful to it and it takes about a month or two to really see the results.
I buy the VIACTIV calcium supplements , you can get them at Walmart for less then 8 bucks and you take two (it's chocolate and I think they have it in other flavors , tastes like a tootsie roll) a day.
Believe me IT WORKS!!!! Many women don't get enough calcium in their diets and the lack of it can make PMS worse!
Good Luck!!!!!!! emoticon

How awful!!! I have had that before. I have actually started mid-half marathon! Keep your eyes on the prize/finish line. I spent 15 minutes along the route in the porta potties/waiting in line for them. Just take your time and relax.
