What a coincidence. I was searching to see what meals containing a certain amount of calories looked like and didn't have to look far. Yesterday (or perhaps today since it is a US site) Sparkpeople posted the following article

It's an extremely useful article, and also a great reason to eat in and not eat out. Eating in you have a much better idea about what is in your food and YOU control the portions.

Flat Belly Diet

Lost inches!

After writing my last post I went to the tools section to update my weight. I had forgotten that I entered my measurements there a year ago. So, I found my tape measure and entered my new ones and was surprised that I have lost inches at some point over the last year.

A lot of inches!

4 from my waist.

4 from my hips.

1 from my neck.

Now, it is possible that I took the measurements at slightly different places which would account for some difference, but not 4 inches worth! I moved the tape measure around to find the largest part of me (lovely eh!) and every measurement was 4 inches less than a year ago. I'm pretty sure my neck measurement is correct because that is such an easy one to take.

Is it because I've been eating breakfast more consistently over the past year? Is it due to the gym workouts which I've only been doing a few weeks? I don't know. But I am certainly not complaining!

Third time's a charm!

I am embarrassed that I haven't been back here in a year. I'm also amazed that I was at 154 pounds and don't remember it. I knew I had lost a little but didn't realize it was 10 pounds in one month. Wow!

I am back, coincidentally, in the same month I started last year.

I'm also back at 163 pounds, my starting point last year.

But ... there is one change, I've started going to the gym regularly.

It's only been two weeks, but I'm at the point where I enjoy going. I have a class that I take every Monday and I know others in the class who help motivate me. I've also taken a few other classes during the week to find the right fit for me. On days I don't take a class I walk on the treadmill for half and hour which I really enjoy, and I also pedal on a bike for 10 - 30 minutes depending on how I feel after the treadmill. I enjoy the heart monitor readouts and calories burned information on the bikes. I can put in my age and weight and it does all of the calculations for me.

So... even though I am starting again at my same weight I am ahead of last time in that I am already working out.

Can you tell I am trying to make myself feel better about not sticking to last years diet?

Also, today I started the flat belly diet. I'm not sure how I will go with it but it is very similar to how I already eat except I haven't been eating the MUFA's. So maybe it wont be too hard to stick to.

The Olympics

One reason I enjoy the Olympics is because you get to see what the human body is capable of in different circumstances.

Different muscles are needed for different sports. The endurance required for longer sports, the bulky "speed" muscles, the emotional strength needed for pretty much everything, concentration and the pressure and stress of it all.

Watching swimming and then turning to track, and then to gymnastics, you see how different each body is because of the different muscles required to excel in different events.

The work these athletes put into maintaining their bodies, the nutrition, the exercise, the timing to be at their peak, it all amazes and inspires me.

Most of us are capable of so much more from our bodies, but we use it for the bare minimum that we have to. Just a small amount of effort each day will help our bodies become more efficient. Our bodies want to move, our muscles want to be used.

I couldn't have chosen a better time to choose to lose weight and to become a healthier person. I am depriving my body from doing what it does best by not taking care of it.

Seeing these athletes... awesome! Inspiring! Motivating!

I can't do what they do, but I can do a whole lot better than I have been doing.
