The poison in Hostess snacks!

Friday, October 09, 2009

Today I was browsing at the supermarket. I was walking down my "temptation aisle". This is the aisle where all the cookies and snacks are. I spotted some yummy looking Hostess Cinnamon Crumble Cakes. Immediately i started thinking about how I could fit this into my diet. Then I looked at the nutrition label. Calories per serving 110...not too bad. then i read the ingredients label. I was scanning for partially hydrogenated oils (aka TRANS-FAT). Much to my horror not only did it include partially hydrogenated oils but also BEEF FAT!! OMG. BEEF FAT??? In a sweet snack?? OMG and this is the stuff that we feed our kids. I'm so disgusted. Gross. That totally scared me away from snacks like that, but also further emphasized the importance of reading nutrition and ingredients labels. it's important to know what you're putting into your body.

OMG I didn't know about the chicken fat. It's so disgusting what they put in our foods. That stuff is so bad for you. It should be illegal for food companies to use those ingredients. The good thing is that people are starting to become more aware of nutrition labels. The bad thing is that there are so many loopholes and food companies are able to get away with mis-labeling foods. For example Trans-fat, so many foods are labled as "trans fat free" when in fact they're not. A lot of foods contain traces of trans-fat and if you have more than one serving you've already gone way over the amount of recommended daily allowance. I appreciate the efforts that they're making to make sure we're as informed about the foods we eat as possible, but i don't think it's enough. Which is why it's so much better for us to cook whole foods at HOME!

Yeah, I knew about the beef fat. When I first became a vegetarian 17 years ago, I started reading labels. I think that was one of the first one where I just about vomited. Reading stuff like that is a really easy way to avoid sweets.

Did you know that some flavors of Doritos have chicken fat? It's amazing the nasty stuff they put in food. And surprisingly, Oreos have very little of the nasties. Go figure.

The beef fat surprises me. Though I usually try and avoid that aisle so that I'm not even tempted. Good job reading the label.

More Specific October Goals

Sunday, October 04, 2009

I want to be more specific. My ultimate goal for this month is to lose 10 lbs. But I have to admit that I've gotten quite lazy and have MAJORLY been slacking on my exercise. I make up every excuse in the book and always end up saying "i'll do it tomorrow" but that never happens. So my other goal for this month is to get on top of my exercising. My eating habits are fine, but my exercise not so much. Below is a detailed workout plan. I'm going to do everything that I can to make it happen.

This month's exercise goals:
Oct 4 thru 10th -
Mon, Wed, Fri 45 minutes of Cardio (since i haven't been exercising i'm starting out slow so as to avoid injury and also to acclimate my body to exercising)
Sun - Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (level 1) DVD
Tues - Biggest Loser Power Sculpt DVD
Thurs - Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (level 2)DVD

Oct 11 thru17
Mon, Wed, Fri 60 minutes of Cardio on treadmill
Sunday - 10 minute solution Target Toning DVD
Tuesday - Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred Level 2 DVD
Thursday - Power Sculpt DVD

Oct 18 thru 24
Mon, Wed, Fri, 60 minutes of Cardio on Treadmill
Sunday - Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred DVD Level 2
Tuesday - Power Sculpt DVD
Thursday - Target Toning DVD

Oct 25 thru 31
Mon, Wed, Fri - 60 minutes of Cardio on Treadmill

Four more pounds and you at at 100 pounds lost!!!!! If you make that goal this month that would be great. Is a 10 pound loss well supported with calorie counting and exercise? I like the variety of your workout program. Great planning.

Those are great goals, when you thinking about making excuses for not excercising think about how great you will look and feel after you are done. Good luck

October Goals

Saturday, October 03, 2009

It's been a crazy past couple of months. I did fall of the wagon for a while but I'm happy to report that I haven't gained weight. I've managed to maintain my weight. Sure, i didn't lose, but i didn't gain any weight and that's good. So I'm ready to attack my goals once more. My goal for this month is to lose 10 lbs. At the end of this month i will be 28 years old and I really want to look good on my birthday. Birthday plans are still up in the air, but i definitely want to wear something that looks good on me. And more importantly something that I feel GREAT in. So, here i go. :) Happy October to you all!

Falling off the wagon

Sunday, August 30, 2009

It pains me to admit this, but i've recently fallen off the wagon. I've been off for over a week. I have many excuses, but they're only that--excuses. The honest truth is that i've been lazy and it's so much easier to eat whatever I please as many times as i please. It's also easier not to exercise. *sigh*. I need to own this. Just like i've owned all of my hard work, i have to own this.

I need to re-gain my motivation and drive. I'm going to focus on all that i've accomplished. I don't want to undo what i've already done. My old self is wanting to make excuses as to why i can't get out there and exercise. But i wont. I guess this is part of making a lifestyle change. This is a learning experience. How do i get back on track? Will i get back on track? How hard/easy will it be for me to get back on track? i'm goign to do everythign in my power to get back on track. more to come later...

    Hi Sally,

We all fall off the real matter is what we do after we fall. You have the success formula and the support of all your fellow Warriors. You can do this and you will succeed. If we were perfect life would be soooo boring LOL!

You can get back on track, me all fall off at least once! I agree with Shyphys - go back to where you started. ALso don't forget to reward yourself and set goals. I recently met my 10lb loss and got to go shopping at La Senza for it. You'll figure it out!

We all need help. We all fall off. Go back to what made you start this journey and concentrate on that. Also, remember to reward yourself for your accomplishments and you might not feel deprived emoticon emoticon

I'm back!

Friday, August 21, 2009

Since I was sick recently I've been taking things very lightly in the exercise department. I didn't let my eating/diet slip too much, but my exercising kind of came to a halt. I've been feeling much better this week, and my doctor took me off of my medications. Happy to say that I"m back to running and doing my strength training. I really missed that burn and rush that i get from exercising :)
