Fridays fun

Friday, March 16, 2012

Day started out great, I over slept. Woke up wondering why I felt so awake. I shouldn't feel this awake I thought to myself. The alarm that I had set for 4:30 hadn't even went off yet. Boy this is going to be a great day, I'll get in an extra long workout before work. Well it sure sounded good until I rolled over and saw those little LED numbers telling me that it was 5:50. OOPS I had set it for 4:30 P.M. not A.M
So I fly out of bed to get dressed so atleast I can get a walk in. I did manage to get in a little over 1/2 mile.
So after shower and breakfast I'm off to work, ten minutes behind schedule. Good thing I always leave 45 minutes before work to make a 20 minute drive.
Get to work kind of bummed out that I had over slept and didn't get my work out in, when they tell us that we will be leaving 2 hours earlier. GREAT I can get my workout in early when I get home.
On the way home I decide that I'll do my 5K training first. We have a country block that we walk/jog around. Not quite 4 miles, not much traffic, we enjoy it. Now we usually do this around 5:30 or 6:00, but today me in all my brilliance decided to do this just after school let out. NOT A WISE DECISION. Spent more time in the ditches than on the road. Parents picking up their children, Kids driving back to school for ball practice, Farmers heading to their fields, school buses, and a few who I believe just wanted to see if I really would run through a ditch.
I get home to load in our fun little adventure, but find a entry for WALK/Jog/DITCH CLIMBING. OH well the ditch climbing workout was better than no workout.

P.S. Next run take climbing rope

Will Do A 5K

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

To run or not to run, that is the question? Not really. My wife and I have decided to do a 5K. We started the 5K your way program Sunday. So far all is well. I love to run, although at my current weight not as easy as it used to be. My wife on the other hand is not a big runner. She is trying hard though. Today I also recruited our health coach from work to do it as well. This will be the first 5K for all of us, so my guess is we will walk part of it, but WE WILL FINISH IT!

    When is the 5K?

I've tried running a bunch of times in the past, and this is the first time I'm enjoying it. Tell your wife not to work too hard! I think I pushed too hard in the past. Taking it very easy this time, I got to 3 miles and enjoyed (almost) every step.

Have fun!

Monday Blahs

Monday, March 12, 2012

What is it about monday morning that is so hard to get motivated? Is it just me or do others feel the same. I get up at 4:30 to do my workout and never can get motivated enough to do it, so I end up walking. Then after work I do my workout. Today was no different, Get up but can't get motivated so walk for 49 minutes instead, now I'm home and have to do my workout. None of the other days are a problem, just monday. It can't be my job, because I like my job and the people I work with. Is it just me that has monday morning blahs?
Well time to go workout.

I believe there is a federal law that mandated "Monday Blahs" cause I always have it too. I'm impressed that you can get up at 4:30. You should feel good about that.

Maybe it's the change up in routine; going from the weekend, where there's extra time, into the workday structure that starts on Monday is the least comfortable transition point in the week, even when you love your job.
I have the same kind of mental hurdle about strength training. Running and stairs days, no problem. I'm still looking for ways to convince my brain that it loves strength training. When I was younger I loved lifting weights, but running was a chore. So funny it's the opposite now.

Sooooo.....why not let monday be your rest day and opt to exercise one weekend day instead! Trick your body and trick your mind at the same time!!!

Just sitting thinking over the past year. Wondering how many times I've heard people say I am in shape, round is a shape. Myself included then laughing about it, but inside myself not happy with the size I had become.
Like most people on SparkPeople I had tried some sort, if not several, forms of dieting in the past. All seem to work at that time. Weight came off, felt better, was happy until I quit following the diet plan. Therein lies the problem, you must follow a certain diet restriction. With SP and few other people I have learned about eating healthy. This to me is not a restricted diet, it is a lifestyle, or should I say "LIFESAVING", change. I now eat fresh fruits and vegetables everyday. Who knew there were so many wonderful flavors to enjoy out there. Everyweek I am trying something new. This past week I tried out garbonza beans in a recipe, bean sprouts in another, and fennel in another. Three new foods added to my "DIET" All good and good and good for you. How good is that to get to do 2 things that I love to do, 1)cooking and 2) eating on this plan. Not too mention the fun time the family and I have in the store now learning about new things. Yes you do have to watch how many calories you eat, but a couple of weeks ago I fixed a sweet potato minestrone that will fill you up with only 200 calories and still has your carbs and protein.
So now when people ask me what diet I'm on I tell them "NONE, I have changed my lifestyle. I eat right and exercise. And by the way, ROUND is still a shape, but no longer mine!"

Can I get your sweet potato minestrone recipe? :-)
You're reminding me how good it is to live a healthy life not just for me, but for my family. It's a great way to express how much you care for your family, by cooking delicious food that makes us all healthier.

Is IS all about a lifestyle change you can make permanent. That is how I have maintained an 87 pound weight loss for 13 years.
I wish more people would understand that is is NOT a 'diet' you can go off of when you reach goal!
