A FUN DAY TURNED HORRIBLESunday, October 23, 2011
I left the house at 7 AM to go to the fall TOPS rally. It was a good rally and I won one of the prizes. The "fun" began after I got home. ![]()

HI Elsie - wow, I can totally empathize with sinus pain and infection but thankfully I've never blacked out (I don't have asthma as far as I know...). And yea, TOPS can be kinda weird with their foods. That was one reason I eventually bailed, because my group knew my dietary needs included no pork, no shellfish, allergies and all of that, and yet they'd persist in ordering ham this or pork that at all the picnics or holiday meals etc. For the Rally's, I never got to participate because they were always on Saturdays and I already have weekly commitments on Saturday... but being an officer for a brief interval, I was aware of the planning. Typically they'd hit up grocery stores etc for food donations. And what do the grocery stores donate? Healthy foods? Oh no, those are expensive! They'd donate that cheap white bread junk that were just sitting on the shelves because no one else wanted to buy cheap junky white bread, and so on down the list - pop instead of fruit juice.... sugar ladened snacks instead of fruits and veggie trays, the whole shootin' match. So i guess TOPS needs to be more assertive/aggressive in asking for healthier foods, or go to more places to get the healthier foods donated (like if one store only wants to donate $100 of junk food, but they might consider $100 of a veggie or a fruit - that might not go as far in feeding 100 or 200 people. But if they went to another store and got $50 or 100 worth of some veggies or whatever - just went to more stores to finally get enough of the appropriate foods, it could work out... In any case... there were some other shenanigans going on and friction with my family and so I ended up bailing out of TOPS altogether. Hope it works out better for you in the future! That is crazy about the food at the TOPS rally. My TOPS group usually brown bags lunch because the food at the rally is not that healthy. I have always thought it was strange the choices that are served at rallies. Praying your sil feels better. Sorry you had to go through that nastiness. Report Inappropriate Comment |

Elsie, sorry you had such a bad day! I'm glad your son in law decided to go get help at the ER, low O2 and asthma are nothing to play around with.. I feel bad for Maria too, that wasn't called for on that other woman's part. Praying for you and your family. Hugs, Melody

Hard to say what motivated this person's behavior but it sounds as though her life is out of control. Add her to your prayer list, it sounds as though she needs it. I'll add her to mind and thank the Lord your son-in-law is going to be okay.

More and more people see life as only about them. They have little to no empathy or consideration for others. I'm sorry you had to endure such nastiness on top of worry about your son in law. But even when we only get mildly annoyed with circumstances that are brought about by others, often we have NO idea what they are going through and we all really need to THINK before we react. There is no good way to deal with someone like that except to make your behavior match what God would want from you and leave the other person to his/her own hatefulness. Jo
