BRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Friday, November 23, 2012

Before getting sick and having this surgery, I was able to be comfortable with the heat at 68 degrees now I am shivering at 74. Looks like this is going to be a cold cold winter for me. Maybe it's the 21 pound weight loss.

Anyway, I will have to be real careful to not put this weight back on.

I just want to be warm!!!!

Layer, layer, layer! Also, heating pads for the feet may help keep the whole body warm.

I am enjoying a warm pair of house shoes right now, and already in my fave pajamas...I must be warm! Perhaps you are a soup lover, and that will help, as well as perhaps a cup of hot white or herbal tea in the evening.

Had a good report from the surgeon today. He removed half the staples today and said home health can remove the rest next Monday.

All is healing well and I have been released to drive again.......no longer caged.......lol

A Good Day

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Today was a very good healing day. No problems with the dressing change this morning.

Daughter in law visited for several hours.

I have been up all day and still no pain or discomfort. My legs are much better.

Planning on going to Sunday School tomorrow if daughter Valerie isn't too sore or tired to drive.

Looks like recuperation is coming along just fine. If I had not been AWOL for awhile I would have been aware of what was happening.

So glad you are better and with us!

Back Home Now

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

I finally got home about 8 PM CST tonight after waiting 5 or 6 hours for them to do the discharge.

I guess they aren't real fond of someone demanding explanations, what for's, and why for's.

After I told them I was very frustrated with not being told what was happening, why certain tests/procedures were done, and what meds I was on--they decided to discharge me..........lol..

I did get lots of information from both the medical dr. and the surgeon. 3 med students came in my room with the med doctor but not one of them asked to listen to my lungs or tummy. They just stood at the end of the bed and watched.

I will have home health services for a while because the dressings need to be changed every day.

Doing good for now............Elsie

Home health services are great! My sister had that when she was needing extra care but not needing to be in the hospital. The nurse planned her visits for when I would come to check on my sister so things were taken care of as needed. I was still teaching and my sister was nearing the end of her life here.

So glad yours are temporary and then you will be on your own. Being independent at this time of our lives is really important for our well being.

Home health care is such a blessing when it is needed. DD is an LPN and doesn't think she could do that; I think it would be wonderful myself, but that is just the difference in our personalities, I guess.

I am glad you got to come home, and good for you for questioning!

Saved by God and His Angels!!!!

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

I have been in the hospital since Wednesday Nov. 7. That evening I was having more severe abdominal pain. I called Valerie and told her...she came right over and took me to the emergency room. They did all the normal labs and xrays for abdominal pain/discomfort. Everything (all labs and xrays) were normal so the ER doctor was going to give me something for pain and then we were going home.

At the last minute (the grace of God), he decided to do a CT scan of my abdomen. Then the real problems began. Imagine our surprise when he came back and said "you are going to emergency surgery" for a perforated bowel with an umbilical hernia repair.

After the pre ops were given and I was taken into surgery, they had a problem intubating me for the anesthesia. I ended up being transferred to Joplin by ambulance, put in ICU on a ventilator. I had tubes everywhere. My trachea was swollen so I was on the ventilator for 3 days until the swelling went down.
I was in ICU for 4 days. While in ICU, I went into atrial fib which took 2 days to resolve.

Due to another patient going bad, I was moved to a cardiac room at 3:30 Monday morning.

Now, because a med student freaked out because I had a 100.4 temp, I am here for a couple of more days because she was convinced that an infection has started. My temp has been normal every other time.

Someone ordered an ultra sound of my heart today so it was decided that I now have CHF. So here I still am.....

I am healing well without pain and am able to play "toot city" real well..........lol

I have not read all the posts yet........time to close for now.........Elsie

Oh, Elsie! Yes, God was watching over you! I am so glad that you had good care even if it was by accident, or God's intervention.

Thanks for telling me about your blogs.

Elsie! What a terrible time you've had. Thank heavens the Dr decided to do the CAT!
What dreadful pain you must have been in before they discovered it all. I hope you are feeling better and that your throat feels better. I'm a Respiratory therapist so the ventilator is my forte. I'm really sorry you had such a bad time. I'll remember you in my prayers and wish you a speedy recovery!
