What Size Dishes Are You Using????

You've probably heard or read this at least 200 time so maybe this time it will sink in...just what size plates, forks, spoons, cups, etc. are you using...

are you using a soup/cereal bowl for soups, cereals,fruit, etc?.......try using a sauce holds one serving of cereal with enough room for a small amount of milk

are you using a soup cup or bowl with a handle........try using a coffee mug...automatically smaller servings

what about your plate? proper servings on a regular dinner plate look very small so try a salad plate or even a toddler plate with the sections on it....sure makes your servings look soooo much larger

eating with salad forks or even youth forks and spoons will have you taking smaller bites therefore making your meal last longer and filling you up more..

By using the much smaller plates, bowls, cups, and silver, your meal will look bigger and a lot of what we eat is because it LOOKS so small to us so we add more to fill the plate...then because we have the "clean your plate" syndrome we over eat.

In this way, you can easily set your self up to win at the losing game...and even if you takes a second helping, you are still eating less than with the full size dinnerware and silver..

If salad/desert plates are still too big, go down to the bread plates.

What do yu think? Is it worth a try?

    I use the portion sizes that are listed in the food section.....smaller dishes make the smaller portions look bigger.......

    we started using small dinner plates a long time ago .... yes, it works !! we do eat so much less than when we had the huge ones. Great blog ! Roc

Christmas Challenge Weekly Report...Week 4

This is the beginning of week 4, how are you doing? Good/ Bad/ Staying the same? any pitfalls?

My official weigh in will be Thursday morning at TOPS. I am hoping I didn't gain while on my vacation.

My "DRAWKCAB" (backward) Day!!

Yesterday started out to be one of "those" days but ended up good.

1. I slept late---now you say, well you are on vacation so what's the big deal?..I wanted to get some things done before we went to the mall. I had to go buy an extra set of clothes because I only took clothes for 3 days and stayed 4 days. So off to Walmart, I go. I took my picture card to have a CD made for my sister in law who is sight impaired. The machine decided to play hard to get---what should have took just 8 to 10 minutes took over 45--I was fuming. Because of this time frame, I was unable to get something decent for breakfast so ended up not eating nearly all day. I did get a Subway oven roasted chicken breast on 9 grain honey oat bread to go. By the time I got back to my room, I had a headache. Not too much later, Dale called and said they were on the way and to meet them at the mall. I did this. After an hour of walking, standing, walking, standing my back was hurting along with my head. I excused myself and went back to lay down for a bit. I woke up 90 minutes later--feeling much better.

Later in the evening, we went to the show----it was fantastic...we saw the Baldknobbers. My headache had diminished some by then. When I got back to my room, I took another allergy pill so I could sleep the night. It worked--I got up early, got off to home and was home by 10 AM.

Still having some head heaviness and light headed time because I didn't get enough water while in Branson. I've been drinking the water today..By tomorrow all will be good again...except now my credit cards are groaning...

    one habit I got into while living in the "south" (Texas & Oklahoma) was to carry an ice chest whenever I left to go anywhere for more than 3 hours .... you gotta drink !! so glad you enjoyed the show ... sorry you felt bad, especially with a headache ! Roc

A Morning of Lousy Choices

I know that it's not quite fall yet but I like this picture.

This motel has terrible choices for their breakfast. Just donuts, white bread for toast, watered down orange juice and/or stale cereal. I have to admit this morning, I made very very bad choices of donuts (yes more than one) and 2 slices of white toast.

Hopefully I will get somewhere where I can get a decent meal this afternoon.

The dinner last night was good and balanced, it was just so much food----1/4 chicken, 2 slices of prime rib, potatoes, red beans, roll, apple crisp, and corn on the cob. I didn't eat all of it---just too much. The show was wonderful with all the OLD western songs that the original Sons of the Pioneers made famous as well as songs from other western singers.

    I have been to motels that had better choices than that. But I think that's becoming standard fare. Guess they're cutting corners.

    I used to stress about eating out but then came to realize that I go through periods when I do it a lot, but most of the time I don't. So I don't stress about it too much anymore, and just try to make the best choices I can most of the time. Enjoy your time with your family!

    Yes, it's hard to make wise choices when traveling. Just have to do the best you can with what is offered and get back on track when you return home.. Like the pictures and ready for Fall.

    Sometimes it is really hard to get what you need out of your element. You just make the best of a bad situation and trudge on.

Some one once told me "Don't beat yourself up 'cause there are plenty of people just standing in line waiting to do it for you." Hopefully not on Sparkpeople though.

According to my "nakey" weight this morning, I am down another pound.........this isn't my official "clothed" weigh in at TOPS..I won't get to weigh in at TOPS until Sept. 27 due to being in Branson on the 20th.

Congratulations! One lbs iw 3500 calories that you didn't eat OR 4 sticks of butter that you aren't wearing around your hips. emoticon emoticon
