On Wednesday, I received a call from Dale (brother in Michigan) asking if I would like company this week end. Of course I said yes. They got an unexpected chance to come down with another couple. Friday evening, I picked them up in Springfield---a 45 minute drive from here.
Saturday we had a family dinner already planned so they got to attend that plus my son and daughter in law got to come over to see them. I had 17 here for chili dinner. All 4 of my kids and their families/spouses were able to come see them.
Sunday after church, I took them to George Washington Carver National Park. We walked for about 2 hours.
Monday I took them through the tornado areas of Joplin. While tooling around, we passed the low vision place. Dale said can you stop in there--so I did a quick stop and pulled in there. Sue (my sister in law) is sight impaired and legally blind. She had lost her good sturdy white cane so they wanted to see if possibly they could but another one. The man had a white cane that was also a walking cane that had been turned back to them by another family. He gave the cane to Sue free. She is absolutely thrilled with this cane as it gives her support for walking as well as being white. Then we went to some thrift stores. On the way home we stopped at the Precious Moments Chapel and Museum. More walking---about 2 hours worth total for the day.
After getting home Monday evening, we decided to go to Branson to meet the couple that they came down with and since I had free tickets to Yakov Smirnoff's dinner theater. A very good show put on by the Moscow Circus which included a dinner. It was a ballet type show. After this show, Dave ( who they came down with) got us free tickets to see The Texas Tenors. Fantastic show with all different types of music including some opera. It was mostly country and some rock. This group had won the America's Got Talent Contest in 2009. We had gotten a motel for the night and nearly got lost getting back to the motel---we were bushed.
This morning I took them back to Springfield where the headed for home.
Since today is my daughter's birthday and several of the casinos give free play on one's birthday, we headed out to the casinos. I came home with $60 more than I left with.
This has been the most fantastic 6 days that I can remember in a long long time.
I am so grateful to God for arranging the time to spend with my brother and sister in law and all the other great blessings He bestowed on me over the past 6 days.
And I thought I was going to have a nice quiet laid back weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
