So...when I woke up this AM I gotta to admit to having a BAD case of the Monday blahs! First off it was a holiday....for OTHER people! Second....it was COLD out with wind chills even. Now we've been VERY spoiled here in NYC with a wildly unseasonably warm winter. So when seasonable weather does rear it's ugly head...it's damned depressing!

So my day started off kinda like this.....


But when 10am rolled around...I rolled to the gym. 35 mins of run/walking and 50 mins of biking later....I was feeling pretty good. Got back to the office, and it was a steady stream of interruptions from everyone under the sun with a stupid question. One right after the other. BUT at some point the inner calm took over. I shut the door, was able to concentrate (mostly) on the reports at hand to read. And turned the tables on the entire day!



So dear spark friends...when things look bleak or life is getting you down....turn the tables over! And take the cat by the tail!!

The Week in Review....

SO....last week at this time I was snoopy dancing b/c I'd FINALLY lost .5 lbs after being stuck at the same weight for weeks interminable! This week I can report a loss of an additional 2 lbs!! So I'm snoopy dancing all over the show atm! HEY it's good cardio!

The week over all had it's up and downs as I've already blogged about. That freaky day when my legs just didn't want to work to the great success of having biked 22 miles! It was definitely a bit of a roller coaster!

Food-wise, all was good. Due to faulty memory -- and forgetting a meal in the fridge when I left for work once or twice -- lead to some quick thinking and planning. But it all came out well.

The one are that still needs some work in the consistency department is the strength training. It used to be my favorite part of the thing, but somehow that's long been replaced by my beloved bike! So for the week coming up....it's weights and other ST that's going to be my focus.

The week ahead will be busy with lots of long nights at the office. I've cooked up a good batch of food for the week. Including my favorite quiche!! Monday's morning meeting got cancelled so no need to push the gym time back to the afternoon. The rest of the week is clear for that time! YAY.

    You've been doing great kiddo, and it sounds like the spring madness is about to kick into high gear.

Keep doing what you know is right and take care of yourself in between....work in the ST when you can....squats & lunges will help your running too!

Back in the Saddle.....

Welp....after that freaky workout on Thursday....I was a little trepidatious heading into the gym today. Would I be able to run....would I fall off the bloody treadmill because my legs refused to work.....would I be able to pedal the bike faster than my grandmother (she's been dead 20 years!)....

These were the thoughts that pounded through my head as I slowly climbed the stairs from the dressing room to the cardio room upstairs. With a hesitant foot I stepped onto the treadmill first. I figured I wouldn't push myself too hard and scaled back the running program a bit...to last week's settings. And I did it...I ran....AND I felt good!!!



Then it was onto the bike.....would the legs hold out? Sure enough they did....and 11 and change miles later I got off feeling just GREAT!!



So I don't know what happened Thursday...maybe I didn't eat enough of the right stuff or was tired or whatever....but I nailed it today!! Tomorrow is regularly scheduled rest day...read that as cleaning apt, doing laundry and mass cooking (some rest eh!) But tonight...I feel good...and strong....and ready to take on the world!

So yestrday I posted this on my status.... SAFARIBABE is hitting the gym in the PM...MUST stick to my resolve!!

Well i DID stick to my resolve! Even though it's not my favorite time of day to hit the gym, I went with every intention of running day 2 of the runnig program then doing a little bike work. I have NO idea where it all went to crap but that's EXACTLY where it ended up! First I could NOT run to save myself. Made it through the first run/walk set. Part of the second. None of the third, then the 4th & 5th I reversed the running and walking. So then I figured I'd comsole myself with some quality bike time....same thing again! couldn't get the pace up. Normally ride at under a 4mph pace...yesterday...about 6mph! I have NO idea where it all went hooey....but hooey is what it was!

Friend suggested I might have overdone....so I took today off. Was working from home anyway as my new night stands were being delivered today. They look great!! Tonight I ordered new lamps to go with as currently there is only one in my bedroom. Nice pair of art deco iron ones with a glass shade. Can't wait for them to arrive so I can complete the look and move on to the living room! Tomorrow I'll order the new media center....finally replace the IKEA one I've had since I got my first flat! Then.....gotta find that elusive couch!!

So the plan for tomorrow is to get into the office early. Hit the gym at 9. See how I do at the running thing. Then I'll decide what I want to do about the bike. I really hope whatever this is that it sorts itself!! LOL

Welp that's all I've got tonight! Can't wait to rest my fruit based product on nice new night table!

    The burn out suggestion may have been right on - it's what I would've suggested. Do you take off 1 day week? It doesn't have to be totally nothing, but something you seriously ramp down. A pleasant walk, not major cardio, but still moving.
Could also been food/energy. Getting enough? Getting enough of the right stuff?

I took Wednesday off and when I worked out Thursday, i had a burst of energy, felt so good. And I know I'm not working out as hard as you (yet).

Tell you what, i took yesterday off and that felt like it made all the difference in the world! I was in a much better mood today (Boy Scout pretzels notwithstanding) and had much more energy in the gym to boot, so enjoy the off time.

Now all you need to find is an Art Deco iPad cradle for the nightstand and your feng shui will be complete!

I SWEAR.....I do NOT know which is worse....Mondays or Wednesdays!

On the one hand...Mondays are that day that we all dread because somehow when I arrive at the office all kind sof work has mysteriously appeared on my desk. This is most odd since I was last in the office at noon Saturday and there's not that many people around to generate the volume of crap that awaits me each and every Monday morning.

On the other hand....Wendesdays are the middle of the week and you've already started looking ahead to the weekend. Planning for great stuff and a little R&R when every yahoo you work with insists on pulling ya back to the reality of the here and now.

Well this Wednesday...started out OK....rapidly decended into a cranky mood when the neighbor I often share a cab with in the morning starts in complaining about one of our other neighbors. That woman is ALWAYS complaining! And I was just NOT in the mood for it. Got to the office, settled in...started reading reports til gym time...went to gym intent on running....realized my running bra must have flipped out of my gym bag when I was shuffling around in it earlier! OK...cross train today with a bit of biking and run on Thursday (someone remind me to retrieve my bra tomorrow morning?). No worries. Get on the bike and decide to start off with hills. Also decided to rank up the pace a bit. Did 2 sets of 45 mins and crushed over 22 miles! Have to admit tho I was arguing with myself for a lot of it. "Oh it's too much" "Oh I'm so tired" "Oh I shou;d be working....so much work to do". But all those whiny voices got a big SHUSH! and I just kept pedaling. And 90mins later I was satisfied that I had given it my best and although my pace is still off a bit I was still pretty chuffed with the results -- especially when i got back to the office and pugged it all into SP and found out I'd ridden off 900 cals!

More paper pushing followed in the afternoon THEN was my boss' new brain fart. She's decided that instead of monthly meetings she wants to have weekly meetings. SERIOUSLY...in stead of spending 2 hours a month now she wants to spend 1 hour a week (4 hours a month) talking about nothing during our busy season??? I swear that woman has nothing better to do than have meetings. Not like she does any real work! Oh yeah...let's not forget she's going on a cruise next week! "Personal Business" she told the firm. The rest of the world's workforce...call it VACATION!

Guess I'm still a little cranky. LOL

By 7PM I had had it! Packed up my stuff and came home! I'm going to try to hit the sack by 10PM (I NEVER do that!!) Even if I just read for a while to unwind.

So that's my case for why Wednesday's are worse than Monday's. What do y'all think???

    Ahh the never ending joys of office life! "Personal Business", huh? What's lunch called, "edible pay time"? Hey instead of going to the gym, you can conduct some "recreational business development".

Great job on the bike! Keep a spare bra in the office....maybe you can get your boss to buy you one with "support funding"
