OK so it's a few days early, but ach it was nice out today!!

Today was also, of course St. Patty's Day! The day when strange drunken people with green hair stoll (and stumble along) the streets of NYC! Thankfully I was ensconced in my office for all but about 10 mins from 7am - 7pm. But then when I left the office, I was able to walk home from work! On the odd chance that this might be the case I had worn my Tevas (aka my happy feet) into work. And OMG it was glorious to walk home! Not just because I was leaving the office -- reason enough to celebrate all by itself -- but because I was FINALLY able to do something more physical than the .2 mile round trip to the loo! It felt so GOOD to get out there and MOVE again!! Not sure I'm quite ready for the gym, but if the weather holds, and it's supposed to, then I will do a round trip walk to work and home tomorrow. In fact tomorrow is supposed to be even nicer than today -- almost 70!

That walk was the highlight of the day! The rest was reports and a teleconference. Thankfully, I was able to do some real work rather than waste 2 hours of my time in the meeting. I LOVE speaker phones and mute buttons!! I was even able to chime in when asked a direct question! Hehehehe!

OK Skipping out at 7 means that I have a few more reports to read tonight! So I'm off to do that and will check in with y'all tomorrow. I hope you've had some nice spring weather as well!!

Guess what Tory... my 9-year old daughter and I saw our first Robin of spring yesterday and heard songbirds, so Spring is officially here in SD as well

...not sure if the first Robin of Spring is a noted event in New York, but for us it still is.....when you see those chubby little Robins listening for worms in the ground that has just been cleared of melted snow, we KNOW that Spring is here

Have a good day Tory.

I so think the winter blahs are getting to me the last week or so. Even though the weather has been nicer the last week, we have been hit with 40 MPH winds. So trying to do anything outside sucks. Although I do get a good resistance working out walking from place to place in that wind. It just takes 20 minutes to walk 10 feet. LOL
So enjoy the walk for me. :) I know how much you want to be biking and running -- so am happy you can get in a walk. :)

It has been such a long, I repeat long cold winter everywhere. Now that we are experiencing some warmer sunny weather it is so refreshing to be outside. Breath the air and take a stroll. It makes me realize just how much we have been inside this winter, YUCK! When I go outside I just want to shout... I AM FREE! :-)

At the hot springs the temperature will be 40-35 with snow showers. There is something amazing about relaxing in a hot springs pool while it is snowing on you. After this weekend, NO MORE SNOW for me.

I am past ready for emoticon!

I can't wait to be sporting my Tevas.

Really hoping your back is better Tory.

Have a great weekend!

Well done and I'm real happy for you.....springtime in New York is almost as nice as April in Paris! Especially as Central & Riverside Parks bloom.

Enjoy the good weather, don't let the telecon cretins get you down and always keep a spare set of sneakers and Tevas in your gym bag at work!

The last week or so I've been feeling pretty blah. I've been eating well and until my back went out, exercising like a demon, but the results weren't coming as easy as they did in the beginning and work was getting me down and preoccupying my thoughts. Even when I was at the gym I had a string of phoned in sessions. I did them but I just wasn't into them. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing that goes thru my head is what reports do I have to review today. The last thought at night is what awaits me tomorrow. Even Sparking seemed more like a chore than something I enjoy doing, and I DO enjoy keeping up with everyone.

So I looked around for some motivation...some reminder that I am more than an accountant, or a daughter or a colleague or a girlfriend or all the other obligations that pull at me every day,

I am a field guide....

I am fierce...

I am Determined...

I am a good friend....

I AM the Warrior!

I am so impressed with you, not getting the winter blahs 'till March. Spring is just around the corner and your back is improving. We will hear you ROOOAR! Most of us do so well in the summer, so for now, we're just getting warmed up! emoticon

Completely understand where you are right now. I've been fighting the blahs lately too -- and a case of shin splints. Ugh.

Love your visuals -- you are all these things and more.

Yes these are the times that try our souls....

The summer blogger and the sunshine tracker will, in this crisis, shrink from exercising....

But he and she who stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman and Chris the Spark guy and all of ye Spark Friends.....

Blahness, like hell, is not easily conquered, yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the workout, the more glorious the triumph....

What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon GOAL WEIGHT....

But seriously, you're doing GREAT! You are DRIVEN, you have DETERMINATION, you are ORGANIZED, and you have a MILLION THINGS TO DO! We are all more than our job and our relationships to others. Inside there is that desire that got us all started here. In the beginning, those of us who came in 2-3 months ago, have been on Cloud 9, changing patterns, diet, activity levels, dropping weight, etc. And now, there's a collective sigh as our bodies, minds, and spirits say, "WHOA, I thought this was temporary, slow down and how about a little me time"

Anyways, I ramble on your blog...keep at it, you're a WINNER!

Down but NOT Out!

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

So OK my back is buggered AGAIN! Is that an excuse to stop eating right and give up on all the success I've had so far? Can not kicking GetStrongerrr's butt in pushups keep me down? Can not keeping up with Texas_Grl's running program stop me from continuing to succeed? H3LL NO!!

In point of fact my back is feeling a lot better after only 2 days. This is NOT the normal course. Already today when i stood up from a chair I was getting to about 165 degrees of vertical! This alone has been known to take the better part of a week. I credit this improvement to all of the crunches Duckie's challenge made me do this month and all the other core training I've done. I'm guardedly optimistic that I can get back to the gym on Thursday. Even if it's not for a run, just a walk. And not for a marathon ride, just a low resistance one. That's OK! I'll listen to my body and get back into the swing at the pace my back dicatates. So I may not post a loss this week. I'll be very happy to post a no gain! I will also be VERY happy to get back in the gym!!

OK enough blogging. I think I got caught up with all my friends tonight -- the work schedule has been brutal! -- and now I'm going to go cook some food for the rest of the week! I'm REALLY tired of sandwiches! Night y'all!

Alright then, we're 110% with you...ease into it just like you plan. It's pretty awesome that as you get strongrrr (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk) your body recovers faster.

So if the prospect of kicking my butt is motivating you to get past 165 degrees of freedom that much sooner, so be it! I'm glad to help assist in your recovery and motivate you to get back into the jungle where we do pushups on our knuckles and call out the cadence in a loud booming voice to scare away the predators!

Wishing you a speedy recovery girl!

Postcards from the Virtual Road.... Illinois Bound

Sunday, March 13, 2011

So this is the continuing saga of my virtual cross country journey by foot and by bike. This week I started off outside Lagrange Indiana heading west toward Illinois. I didn't quite make it there but I did see some fun and some freaky things along the way. Wanna see?

So not too long after leaving Lagrange, I passed through Elkhart Indiana. And of course no trip to Elkhart would be complete without stopping by the RV museum. I have to tell you that wandering through all those RV displays really made me with I had 4 wheels instead of 2 to get my across country. Although many of the RV's were very cramped I bet they're a lot easier on my butt than my bicycle seat!

On my way out of Elkhart I passed the Paul Bunyan Muffler Man and old Paul was kind enough to give me a wave as I passed by....

A little further down the road and I was in South end Indiana. Home of that classic movie Breaking Away. As I thought about the movie and seeing as how I was already on a bike, I decided to take a lap around that race track. Home of the annual Little 500. And so I did. And don't you know I raised my arms in victoryas I crossed that imaginary tape, beating all the odds to reach my goal.

Once done patting myself on the back for my solo vitory against imaginary opponents, I pointed my nose westward again and kept going. Going that is until I got to La Porte. There I stopped at the La Porte Historical Society where I stopped off to view the Belle "Husband Killer" Gunness Exhibit. Belle, it turns out was quite the black widow, bumping off several husbands and many others who came poking around in her business.

All in all I traveled just over 100 miles this week and am currently a bit down the road from Gary Indiana and after that Illinois...

Dear Spark Friends --
Greetings from Indiana. The postcard is the main drag in LaPorte Indiana. It's been a week of ups and downs but thanks to your continued support and encouragement I've made it this far and have every intention of continuing on my road. So friends, this postcard's for you!

Cheers, Tory (SafariBabe)

TGIF!!! (A Rant)

Friday, March 11, 2011

I am SO glad this week is behind me! Not only has it been grueling at work but my nreves are just raw and everything is just pi$$ing me off! From stupid partners who can't write a simple report right the first time OR the second time to challenges where they want you to exercise in the loo. SERIOUSLY? They expect ya to exercise in a stall? Perhaps these people don't work or just don't think. And with my work schedule I'm home to use the loo what? TWICE a day? First thing in the am and before bed and that's it. Not to mention exercising in a suit, often a skirt. HELLO!!!! Then another challenge is to share the miles we walk but if you do something else (like bike) then you must email the leader your personal email addy and she'll send you the conversion. Uh! NO! LOL I don't share that stuff with people I don't know. Duh! So she emails me the conversion to my SP addy with no explanation as to how to use it. Do I multiply or divide or add or is it a percentage or what? I join and enjoy challenges that are going to keep me engaged and excited about this journey, not looking to make a second career out of them.

This is what I mean by my nerves are frayed. 10 more weeks of this psycho schedule and if I'm not in jail for killing someone then I can get a whole week off. Translation -- a whole week of ignoring my boss trying to reach me on my cell phone, email, etc. I would not put it past her to show up ay my apartment.

Ok enough of the rant. Tomorrow is Saturday and while I'm going into the office BRIEFLY, the remainder of the morning will be spent sitting in a chair getting my highlights re-done and my hair cut! Then a quick run thru the gym to get in the 3rd installment of my weekly run, then home for a nap before dinner with the soon to be ex-BF. YUP tomorrow's the night. We're going to some place in Brooklyn for dinner and then taking a walk on the Promenade after. Nice quiet place to talk! YES! SO when the deed has been done...can I post him as a weight loss on Sunday? OK that won't work...I'd be negative pounds and that would make me an unhealthy BMI. So that's no good.

Anyway, I'm obviously losing I think I'll do my crunches and call it a night! Have a good one y'all!!
