I thought I would post some pictures from the Redneck 5k Race. I just love the medal.

This was the most enjoyable 5k that I've done. It's a definitely a repeat race next year.

REDNECK RUN/EVENT – April 5, 2014

Of all the races I’ve run I have never run one for the fun of it. From my first race where I walked to power walking followed by speed walking/jogging to running each event, I have always tried to tie or beat my best time. But this event will be different. This time I’m am going for the atmosphere and to enjoy a casual run. (And get a really cool medal) It was about a month ago I came across a race that caught my attention. The Redneck 5k run and 10k plunger relay run. I normally don’t run at 3pm in the heat of the day but for his event it will be worth it.

I’m hoping to see some fellow sparks there.

Here is the event info that caught my attention. (Copied and pasted from their email)

Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, Arizona, will host the valley's newest and most unique run/walk event on Saturday April 5, 2014 - the Redneck Run, featuring both an individual 5k and a 10k Plunger Relay. Yup, the relay baton and timing chip is a toilet plunger! (a new one of course!) Theres also a country mile run for the buckaroos.

Event Schedule
12:00 pm Packet Pickup opens, Honky Tonk Village & Redneck Games startin up, Plunger decoratin table opens
2:00 pm Laura Walsh Band starts playin on Honky Tonk Stage
3:00 pm Country Mile run/walk w/ Cassie Lee Smith, Mary Hoffman and the Geetars on the course!

3:10 pm Plunger Relay begins with first leg of relay
3:20 pm 5k Run/Walk
3:30 pm Prize table opens
4:00 pm After party
5:00 pm Going home for afternoon chores!

Picture will follow after the race.

Way to go Steve!! You and Debbie have truly inspired me. I tell everyone about this website, and how it's free and even better than WW. The only thing that isn't free is Spark Coach. While it's good, I don't need it. You and Debbie, as well as Eric, are my coaches. emoticon

It’s been close to a 4 year journey and today was a big payoff… This week is my first total physical since I started my journey to a healthy lifestyle. It was my choice to wait and I know I probably should have had a full physical sooner but I wanted to see what the results would be after keeping the weight off for 1 year and 8 months. Over the past 3 years on Sparkpeople and the ½ year pre Sparkpeople I have seen a lot of changes. From the obvious to the present day I have seen how God has met me half way and help me attain my goals. Some of the changes are:

- Watching the pounds drop of sometimes quickly and other times slowly

- Toning up/watching the inches drop off. Going from a size 56 pants that fit
snuggly to the 32’s I currently wear today.
- Increased energy level
- Getting of my oral medicines and then insulin (For my Type 2 Diabetes, High
Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol)
- Marking off bigger goals from my “Skinny Mans Bucket List”

Today was a “Happy Dance” day. I went to the Doctor for the results of my blood work, EKG and other test. In short everything is textbook perfect. And to top it off I am now listed as pre-diabetic not diabetic/type 2. God is so good. My BP was 120/61 and my pulse was 54.

I have learned a lot and I have a lot to learn yet about maintaining my weight, loving myself and living this lifestyle change. But with time and vigilance I will be successful. So I continue to set smart goals, baby stepping my way on my journey to a healthy lifestyle.

So there it is… And the secret to my success is:
- Trusting in God for strength and help
- Setting small attainable goals
- Never giving up when I failed to reach a goal
- Learning to love and care for me first so I can be of greater value to others
- And realizing there is no secret pill but it takes commitment and determination.
- My purpose and drive was to glorify God in how I looked and how I treated the
body He blessed me with.
