Insanity - Day 12

Friday, August 10, 2012

I think today's workout is the hardest Insanity workout for the first month. Cardio Power & Resistance is a tough workout - and I'm surprised at how far I've come.

I asked a neighbor friend to join me in working out. She showed up today for the first time. After the warm-up (which is kind of a shock if you've never done Insanity), she turned and said she was going to leave. I had told her she could modify everything and do low impact versions of everything, but even that was too much for her. She said the warm-up was enough for her...she was sweating and out of breath. After she left, I realized that I felt that same way the first time I tried this video. However, I would not allow myself to not finish the whole workout, even though I had to stop many times to catch my breath. I guess I really was ready to make a change and commit myself to doing the program. And now look at me...I was able to get through the entire routine today without stopping and without any modifications. I could do the power jumps and the walking pushups. I could do everything that I couldn't do that first time I tried. I wish my friend would give it another chance. It really does get easier as you go along.

It was my husbands Idea to start this - he presented it to me 5+ weeks ago and said we are starting this in 3 days..... Ok - we are one day away from completing week 5 and mentally preparing for month 2. I am down 10+ pounds (I did not weigh myself before I started because I thought the scale needed a new battery). We drive each other to make the trip to the basement to do our workout. I am not sure how I would have done it alone. Some days I come home from work after 12 hours and I am beat. A workout buddy is a big plus. I am 42 and having to lose about 35+/- total pounds, i am on my way. emoticon

When I first wanted to buy Insanity, my husband said "Are you sure you're gonna do this honey? Every time you go on a quick fix or your nutrition plan you stick with it and drop out." He was right, and after the first week, I thought he was right again. I'm so glad I stuck with it because I'm 3 days from the end of my first month! You just get stronger! emoticon

I felt the exact same way. I think you just have to be willing to commit to it. Glad you're doing well! I'm almost done with week 3!

Insanity - Day 11

Thursday, August 09, 2012

Cardio Recovery was well worth the wait. Even though, as I've mentioned, it's definitely not a rest day, it's so nice to give my body a rest from all the jumping and high impact. I still sweat this morning, but that could be due to the heat. Yikes! I'll be glad when this heat wave breaks at the beginning of next week. But, then again, it was a strength training workout, and I could easily be sweating because of that...All I know is today was a gift, and I look forward to getting right back into the Insanity cardio tomorrow.

Insanity - Days 9 & 10

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

OK, two big days - Pure Cardio and Plyometric Cardio Circuit - complete. Both of these really make me work up a sweat. I know I'm getting stronger (as I can do more each time), and this is what keeps me going. I have been keeping track of my heart rate which is one of the program's suggestions. I love seeing my heart rate has come down so much from when I first started. Obviously, I can tell that I'm not so out of breath or dizzy as I was the very first week of the first round, but I like monitoring my heart rate and seeing how quickly it comes down when I take the 30 second break. The actual heart rate is something people can't see from the outside, but I know my body is changing within. It's a great feeling!!

I wish more programs would suggest people monitor their heart rates with a monitor. It's obviously important (especially for those of us older), and it's a good indication of progress. It also gives specific goals to meet while working out. It's invaluable really. And, it works so much better than having to stop to
check your heart rate with your fingers - more accurate and doesn't take you away from the workout. Of course, some programs don't even have you watch your heart rate at all which is not a good thing.

Hey SS, I just posted a blog with this exact question! What heart rate monitor are you using? I really want to get one. I've been thinking about it for a while, but hearing Shaun continously ask us to check our heart rates has spurred me on even more.

Insanity - Day 8

Monday, August 06, 2012

First day of the second week. Today was Cardio Power & Resistance (although it had a lot of plyo exercises included). I'm happy that this second time around it's so much more doable. I was able to complete everything today. The power jumps are still my weakness, but was able to continue each time (albeit slowly) they came up and not stop.

I find that my eating is better when I exercise. I don't know if it's that I don't want to spoil the hard work I'm putting in, but I've been able to refrain from snacking or going outside of my planned food these weeks while I've been doing Insanity. I started this program (Round One) eleven weeks ago. I have been able to consistently eat right this whole time. It's now the start of my twelfth week, and I don't feel any need to stop. I just hope I can keep it up!!!

(Yep, I have gone back in time in line with the Days I'm on hahaha)
I really agree with you; found this mornings Cardio Power and Resistance a whole lot easier to get through. Those power jumps are still a work-in-progress for me too though; I definitely am not going as quickly as the guys in the video, but that's ok with me, I still feel like I'm going as hard as I can.
The eating thing is working right alongside it too. I want to feed my body healthy, nutritious foods so that it is ready to go again tomorrow. I don't want to wake up feeling sluggish and heavy, because I know that will make getting through the workout 10 times harder. I'm loving this routine. Insanity is the BEST!

You are doing great. I'm still in my first round mid week 4 and loving it. Now I have to do what you do with the food. I tend to overeat when I do programs like insanity...

Trying to eat less without feeling deprived...

Insanity - Day 6 (and 7)

Sunday, August 05, 2012

I didn't write yesterday because I was a bit busy, but I am really excited that Week One in done! Starting over again was a bit hard (mainly because I was hoping after the first round I would have lost all the weight magically, and I didn't!), but it gained speed as I got into it. Today is our rest day. I will probably spend the day relaxing and include a walk or maybe a slow bike ride. I've come to discover a rest day doesn't mean not to sleep all day, but to take things a bit slower and just have some fun. The little bit of exercise that comes with walking or a bike ride is just an added bonus!

I'm looking forward to starting Week Two. I couldn't believe how much easier this first month's exercises were this time around. The first time I did Insanity, the exercises seemed overwhelming and practically insurmountable. Now they seem much more simple. I don't get as winded, and my heart rate has come way down. I must finally be getting into shape...Yay!

Great job on the Insanity work out. I tried it but it started to hurt my back so I was modifing a lot. I do want to get back to it though.

I love the feeling when it's not just that the workouts are easier, but it's the fact that you're getting stronger!!! emoticon

Absolutely right on rest days - they're just a rest from a certain intense activity. We can still be lightly active in fun ways.
