Asylum - Day 8

Monday, October 15, 2012

Back to Core. 12 min. cardio - 36 min. strength training

First of all, let me say that my body is not sore from the strength training yesterday. I was worried since I increased my hand weights a bit that I would be sore, but I'm not. Yay! (Or should it be NoYay because I should feel sore????) Anyway, I felt great this morning for the workout.

The workout was again fun. I don't mind doing a million different kinds of jumping jacks, so the cardio is pretty simple. It's just jumping for 12 minutes basically. The strength training focuses on your back, arms, and some abs. It's all pretty fun except for the reverse plank at the end. The back of my knees hurts from that, so I have to bend my knees to allow my legs to leave the floor. I suppose I just don't have enough core strength, but since my knees are weak too, I can't do it as shown. Oh well, I modify and that works fine.

This program seems too short somehow. Like I've said, the workouts are over very quickly. Maybe I've been conditioned into doing longer sessions, but these all are over fast. I have the big Game Day coming up which I haven't tried yet, so maybe that's where all this is leading. I'll probably be complaining that it goes on too long!

Oh, looking forward to hearing about the big game day coming up! Glad you weren't sore from the increased weight because that would have made today a little harder to push through!

Asylum - Day 7

Strength - I do love this workout. It involves a bit of circuit training so there is some cardio work, but mainly this 50-minute workout hits all major muscle groups for a full-on strength training workout. I increased from the 5-pound to 8-pound hand weight. I liked the heavier weight. I felt it this time in my shoulders, and I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow. The workout is also not too much where you feel like you're going to collapse. The only thing I don't feel comfortable with is the last exercise where you do the plank up and down on your elbows and then up onto your hands with weights and then do rows in the plank position. Going from the elbow to the hands on the weights is awkward. Other than that, great workout!

I had to google the workout and see the plank move and some more moves from Strength. WOW! You are amazing. That is one killer workout. The elbow to straight arm planks hurt my elbows, let alone to try and incorporate the weights. Thanks for sharing. Rock on!!!

Asylum - Days 5 & 6

Day 5 - Rest Day. Day 6 - Speed and Agility.

First, I was surprised that we already had a rest day, but since this is one of only two rest days for the 30 days, I'm happy it came when it did. The rest was welcome with everything that has been going on in my life. It also came at a perfect time because I had just finished my project the night before.

Second, I was also surprised at how much harder Speed and Agility was this morning from the first day. I was not as uncoordinated today, so maybe that's why I was able to push myself more. All I can say is that my heart rate really went up and down today - good, intense interval training. I really enjoyed the workout again too. It was fun to do and seemed to go quickly, even with the hardness of it.

I think the 30 days is going to go by fast!!

Asylum - Day 4

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Vertical Plyo. 40+ minutes of pure adrenalin-pumping cardio. Using the ladder mainly, but also the jump rope, you get a really great workout. This is different from Insanity, so my heart rate was back up again. Yay!! I'm glad each of these workouts is quick but intense. You really feel the work, and boy was I sore from yesterday!!

Sounds like you are doing great! I hate to say it but all the jumping with the ladder and jump rope do sound like a challenge! Not sure I am ready for that yet but maybe by the time I am done with Tap Out!

Asylum - Day 3

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Back to Core - A combo workout. The first 12 minutes are all sorts of different jumping jacks and other cardio moves. The rest of the workout, about 36 minutes, is strength training using power bands and your own body. Again, this is a nice change up from Insanity. I love that I'm getting strength training in! I think that this difference will definitely help restructure my body. I'm a little sore from yesterday, so even with the smaller weights, it did something. Yay!

we have 2 handweight workouts a week at our waterclass, 1 is with lighter weights, more/faster repititions for building endurance/stamina, and the other with heavier weights, in a slower/controlled fewer reps to build strength... fascinating how different things can help in different ways!
