Day 61 All on my own

Saturday, March 02, 2013

Week 2 Blog topics for Winter 5% Challenge

1) What new habit you wish to develop?
2) How will you do that?
3) What are you doing to encourage yourself and keep on track?
4) How are you doing day by day?
5) What can you improve upon?
6) Do you need some motivation or advice? Ask for it!
7) Anything else you would like to share with your Team

Starting with #1 today: new habit....hmm. I guess what I really want isn't so much a new habit, but to resume an old one that's been lost in the shuffle of too much on my plate, both figuratively and literally. I want to get back to intentional workouts such as walking, SP videos, and using my breaks to get in a few more fitness minutes.

I think it would help if I print a list of things I can do in my office. I need to remind myself to take stretch breaks--and to take my breaks instead of getting so absorbed in what I'm doing that I come to an energy standstill. Getting out of the office and going for a walk recharges me and clears my mind. When I did that a few days ago, I counted 10 varieties of tiny wildflowers, spotted two roseate spoonbills flying over, and found a nice Trader Joe's shopping bag to add to my collection.

I keep a pair of hand weights in my office; when did I last think to use them? I suspect not in February. I also have an exercise ball to swap off with my desk chair. Taking advice from fellow Sparkers, I got the biggest one I could find so it could be a good desk height, and it is. It's not the size I use for workouts, but it sure made a good base for a full length stretch yesterday after I'd been sitting on the floor assembling shelving.

What's been keeping me from doing the above is TIRED TIRED TIRED. There's been so much to do this week, both still catching up from having been away on my wonderful retreat and helping daughter get ready to move, that I've been running a sleep deficit. Knowing I wasn't going to get enough sleep no matter what I did, it truly was more important to get in an extra 45 min than to get up at usual time and be even tired-er throughout the day. I do foresee that this week will be "normal", and I can get back to my early morning routine.

The "All on my own" title is that I am all on my own while husband is with daughter for her first few days. So it's up to me to take care of myself and our three cats, fill my time with catching up and with some fun AND with resuming my good exercise routine.

i have been tired a lot lately too. AND I love the idea of keeping exercise readily available. I never thought about exercise in that light...I keep healthy snacks available...why not exercise? This is somethign I'm going to try.

I can relate to being tired! Please have you had a check up lately? The reason I ask is I was tired too and the doctor put me on Vitamin D and that has helped a great deal.
You have a wonderful set-up at work and I feel glad that you can have the weights, walks and exercise ball there. Thinking of you as your daughter moves. For the Peppy Party we are adding 120 extra minutes of aerobic exercise... maybe your walks at work for March could count toward fulfilling this goal.... I'd love you to get a team goodie for meeting goal!

Walking outside sounds like a great way to start, I know you love your videos, too. Maybe start back with a 10 min one and work your way back up? Can you do one in your office at lunch? They have already seen you work out in the copy room, so it shouldn't be a surprise now. emoticon

Day 60 Daughter's moving day

Saturday, March 02, 2013

Bittersweet day. I am proud of how my daughter has handled her move, organizing details, researching her new home and area, lining up job possibilities. No matter what age they are, it's hard to see them go. I'm glad my mom came to the airport with us to see her off. We went out for breakfast before I had to get to work. I had a generous Greek omelet, knowing it would probably do for both breakfast and lunch, and it did. It helped too that I had another very busy day at work and less time to think about daughter except to wonder how she and dad were making out with the two cats. The cats proved to be good travelers, thanks be.

Lost nothing this week as expected. I'm determined to make Week 2 of the Winter 5% Challenge a better one. Husband left me a ripe papaya from the garden, so I made a blender drink with it this morning for a good start. I'm pleased to have sore muscles, evidence of yesterday's workout at work when I assembled shelving and stocked it.

It is hard to have our kids move. Hang in there. Good job with getting exercise through activities at work. Ooh, papaya picked ripe in the garden? We have a ton of snow and no papaya trees in sight. :)

Day 59 counting down...

Thursday, February 28, 2013

After having had such a wonderful time of retreat that I haven't had time to blog about, it's been hard having a really hectic week. Tired has been a chronic state, meals and exercise on the run with little time to plan. It all wraps up tomorrow when I see my daughter and husband off early tomorrow morning with lots of luggage and her cats. I have packed every last bit of her overflow into husband's luggage. I sure hope no one decides to inspect his bags; they might pop apart!

Day 58 midweek peak and heading for the weekend

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Food - good
Exercise - 10 min snatched here and there

We had a low key family dinner this evening, just me and my husband and our two daughters. It was good to have this family time together before our older daughter's move.

I'm running on tired; off to bed. emoticon

Day 57 Tues catching up

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

food - so-so. I know I'm doing some stress eating, but less than yesterday. Doesn't help that I'm having dental issues that affect what I can eat, no crunchy or cold, till I get to the dentist on Thurs.

exercise - on the run mostly, some stretching here and there, some heavy chores I hadn't had time to do since I got home. I haven't gotten off to a very good start on Winter 5% Challenge.

Things will calm down--too much--after daughter moves on Friday. We packed a suitcase of overflow items for her this evening and got my husband's stuff together since he'll be accompanying her.
