Counting backwards, Day 21 - Attacked by Cashews!

OK, today was going really well until...the cashews I bought for a recipe jumped out of the grocery bag, attacked me, and stuffed themselves down my throat. No? All right, I admit they got the better of me, but I chose to open them and eat the things. I didn't eat them all, but ended up 348 calories over. Not bad for a binge, but still, not necessary and not conducive to reaching my goals.

On the upside, I had a great workout today. But my workouts need to be more than damage control. Back at it tomorrow.

Later, after several comments: You're right, friends, it was cashews, not chips or something else of no nutritional value. I feel better, and I'm NOT going to finish them off tomorrow.

    I agree with everyone else. At least it was a good calorie over dose; not as iof you ate a whole pizza. Cashews are my favorite nuts too; but if i eat too many I end up going to the bathroom too much. Keep going strong and you will get there.

    Everyone has a slip every now and again. If you are going to go overboard on something let it be on nuts. They are at least healthy. And with all the exercise you do I don't think an extra 348 calories will mean much. You will burn that, if you haven't already in no time. Don't beat yourself up. You are doing good my friend. emoticon emoticon

    It could have been a lot worse! An extra 348 cals today isn't going to be the end of the world ... You exercise a lot and it was cashews!!

    Amazing how agile - and aggressive those cashews can be! Don't be too hard on yourself. Cashews do have nutritional value. Chocolate and potato chips can also play dirty but without any redeeming features.

WHERE'D THEY GO? I DID DO A BLOG YESTERDAY FOR DAYS 24 & 23. Oh well, they weren't great food days anyway.

Today - doing well. Did a video, worked hard on the house so that when my pest control person arrived, he could spray in closets and the large cupboard I emptied. I cleaned window sills, mopped floors, cleaned bathrooms, vaccuumed every place I could get to. Still putting things away; good workout!

I have 7 cal to spare. Dinner was high, but I was eating out. Just think if I hadn't
1) chosen salad
2) asked for light dressing
3) skipped the roll
4) divided my meal in half as soon as it came
5) ate the blueberry pie filling with only a few bits of crust

Great start this morning! Did stretching and cardio in my room, then walked all the way to other bridge for a good brisk 45 min. I'm glad I've been able to do it early in the morning. Right now it's pouring rain in Tampa.

Food - I'm about to give up trying to accurately track today. Breakfast totaled more than I expected at 483, and after the retreat, I went out for lunch with a friend. I automatically set aside half my meal for taking with me--and then we visited the ice cream shop next door. I had a scoop and a half of delicious ice cream in a small waffle cone--and I still have a party to go to this evening. I'm not going to make it within range today. But I did manage to do it for all of the retreat meals. I'm staying an extra night, going home tomorrow afternoon, so it'll be back to tracking as usual. Meanwhile, I'm not going to kick myself for today. I'll just be over and that's that.

    None of us are perfect. Just pull back, regroup, and see if you can find any key learnings from the day.

As long as we learn something, it was a lesson instead of a failure...

emoticonThanks be, no rain! I started this retreat day with a 15 min resistance band workout, followed by a 35 min brisk walk to the Hillsborough River bridge and back. The bridge has been closed for renovation, and I wanted to see how it was progressing.

No internet connection in my room--but the trade-off is the room itself, one of the largest with a bathtub. I have a massage scheduled for this afternoon. Anyway, I'll post as I can, starting with

358 breakfast. That's two meals here so far within range, a major accomplishment. Now if I can keep this up....
363 lunch. I can't weigh and measure, but I'm estimating the best I can. So far, so good. Had a lentil burger and skipped the cookies.
192 snack #1
250 dinner. Ate light, planning to have soy ice cream this evening
119 snack #2

Total - 1282, or something close to it. I ate a light dinner anticipating soy ice cream, which wasn't available after all. :-( I had a mango frozen dessert instead. I was disappointed. However, today's total is pretty amazing; I don't think I've ever managed to eat "light" here. Even if I was off on some of my estimating, it was still a good day.

Hurrying around getting things done before going out of town for weekend women's retreat, returning Monday afternoon. The Franciscan Center of Tampa Bay has great food and lots of it. It's always a challenge not to overindulge. I'm bringing some of my own food for healthy snacks and meal substitutes if I need it. I'm also taking along a pilates book and resistance bands. If it's not raining, I'll walk along the Hillsborough River and around the neighborhood.

Success so far today--unexpected lunch out with mother and sister. I had
no roll
no crackers
vegetable soup
half of a tuna salad pita
water with lemon
for about 466 cal - not bad!

I don't know what dinner tonight will be, so I'll list what I've done so far today and do my best to stay within range this evening.

326 breakfast
466 lunch
82 snack

911 total with up to 639 for the rest of the day. That should give me enough cal for a reasonable dinner and maybe a bedtime snack.

Great exercise today - SP video, yardwork, walk, house cleaning.

Later...about 300 cal dinner and 200 cal snack. I did it! I even bypassed the homemade baklava for dessert. I know I could have eaten just a part of the large portion, BUT...eating just a little was unlikely; better to look the other way and allow for a very small glass of wine.

Managing three meals here tomorrow will be challenging, but I'm off to a good start. That wasn't the last baklava I'll ever see. Off to bed.
