Putting things in perspective!

Saturday, December 15, 2012

It was a sad day yesterday. To know that the promising lives of so many children were lost as well as the lives of committed adults who have spent a good portion of their lives ensuring our children move forward as educated knowledgeable citizens makes it a sad day for that small community in Connecticut and for our country.

As we move forward from this tragedy let us recommit ourselves to loving those around us just a little more, to remember to forgive each other as needed, but more important than anything to not let this become a reason to withdraw from each other. Instead let us try to spend more effort connecting in significant ways with each other. Being just a little nicer to our neighbor down the street, saying hello to others, remembering to share from our abundance...little acts that mean so much.

As I try to grapple with the magnitude of yesterday, I remain committed to being an agent of change in this world. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by yesterday...and I wish and hope that we may one day truly live in a world where peace and goodwill reign.

it's Friday!

Friday, December 14, 2012

Friday is here, at last! It's one of my favorite days of the week. Not because it's the end of the work week (since I am a little bit of a workaholic) but because it means I have the weekend to recuperate from all the interaction I have with people.

I work at a job that requires constant interaction with people, all the time, from the moment I walk into the office on Monday, till the very end of my time on Friday. While I love that connection, by the end of the week, I need time to recharge.

So on the weekends it's about chores like laundry. Who would have thought laundry was relaxing? (But laundry doesn't talk back). Finding time for some extra walk time with the dogs. Just sitting around doing nothing. It's all good.

So while I never dread going back to work on Monday, I do love my weekend downtime.

Are we really that busy?

Thursday, December 13, 2012

Last night I began thinking about how busy I am. This was after finishing up at church with two rehearsals...then over to my sisters for a 9:15pm dinner, running the two dogs around, then finally to bed.....only to get up and start again.

I wonder when it is that one loses a sense of perspective about all the things we do and just goes about from thing to thing ...somewhat mindlessly.

I think for my new years resolution I will try to be more mindfully on making the connection between the time and the energy I expend on doing things and how i might more effectively use that time in connecting with others.

So while I recognize that I will always have plenty of things to do...maybe using that time to more purposefully connect with people will make that time more meaningful and rewarding.

Don't you love this site?

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

This site is like a big piece of my favorite Christmas candy - chocolate fudge with walnuts!, why so you ask? Because, that little piece of heaven is just that because it is so satisfying, brings a lot of pleasure, and, seems like a fitting reward after a long stressful day. Exactly how I feel about SP. the wonderful positive people who offer advice and encouragement along the way are one of those amazing joys in life. While you may never replace that piece of fudge, you are certainly a close second.

Christmas.....oh what a joy!

Sunday, December 02, 2012

So yesterday was one of those days. Spent most of the morning ringing bells at bell choir practice...for a concert just one week away. Spent even longer decorating the church to get it ready for the season...then saw all the ringers again for a potluck....and now the day starts over.

And I am thinking about the three doughnuts I ate....

While its easy to blame it on the season...all this business...in the end it's part of what makes this time of year so fun. Oh well, onto puppets!
