There are days.....and then again...there are days!

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

So the last two days have been hectic and just a little tiring. Yesterday I was in a negative mood...not sure if it was residual from driving in the snow or not...but whatever it is I am over it.

Today I was back to my normal happy self (mostly)! I realized that its been awhile since I have really had a vacation, so I finally am willing to admit that it's time to take a break. I really need it. So in two week I will be taking my very first trip to China. Hong Kong and Ghuangzhou (aka...Canton). I am very excited by this two week jaunt and have already been planning out a huge list of things I would like to see and do. I am thinking that I will probably be more tired coming back if I stick to that list. Oh well!

So I am starting to put clothes aside for the trip and thinking about what I will be bringing home...putting together gift for family and friends to take there and souvenirs to bring back....I am exhausted.

So I have gotten over my hump and see my trip coming up just around the corner. Will keep you in the loop as things progress.

Have a great evening. emoticon

Have a great time. Be careful when you are in Beijing and exiting The Forbidden City.

Snowy, snowy Boise!

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

So today it snowed. While I love snow, in principle, I do have one thing I hate about snow...driving in it! It seems as soon as it begins to snow people fall into two categories....1) drive with abandoned because it really doesn't make a difference however we drive...full speed ahead...horns blaring....these drivers scare me to death. 2) the lets go really really slow.....(I probably fit more into this one) group...so no matter how clear the roads are...it's time to drive 25 miles under the speed limit..and if you can get away with it..try 30 mph under the limit.

Whichever category you fit into...it's a crazy day and the stress is overwhelming...thank god for my Dionne Warwick CD of greatest hits...how can you get to crazed when your slowly moving down the highway singing "what the World Needs Now...is Love Sweet Love".

So now I'm home relaxing. Enjoying the quiet of the evening and celebrating nicely shoveled sidewalks and driveways. It's all good.

Hope you had a great day. emoticon

Thanks for the advice and encouragement on my entry!

Also, I'm glad you were able to unwind and enjoy your evening after driving in snow. I don't drive, but I imagine it can be quite stressful during this season.

Paying the price!

Sunday, January 06, 2013

It's been about 3 weeks since I last picked up my tennis racquet. The inactivity was tied in part to the holidays and to the current cold streak and to not having consistent access to an indoor space.

So last night I joined the local group that has a number of chances to play indoors over the winter. I had a great time being the weakest player in the group all night...not something I enjoy at all. (Blame my competitive nature on this). I got better as the night progressed, but still, it would have been nice to be the best player.... emoticon

Anyway it's morning and my body is sore. So I guess I got a workout . So if I couldn't be the superstar last night at least I can feel like one today.

What was good however was that I got to meet some great new people who love tennis as much as I do and now I can begin to find a group of folks to play with on a more consistent basis. That's all good in my book. I also have some idea of the skills I will need to work on if I am to get my skills up to a more competitive level. So it was a great night for the reality check. So there were things I did well...those I can work to make better and the weaknesses, I can work on bettering those as well.

Life lesson learned!

Appreciate your "re-frame" as you wrote. I loved that you shifted from what didn't feel good about the evening to all the great benefits you gained. A good reminder....I too want to be 'best' although tennis is not my game emoticon

Awesome. Remember tennis is a gentlemen's game -- a social game.

Almost didn't make it ......

Saturday, January 05, 2013

This day has gone by so quickly...I almost didn't get this post in. Don't want to be 4 days into the new year and already be breaking my new year resolutions. Need to get to at least 6 days.....

All in all a great day, my sister and I are going to china in three weeks and today, the one possible glitch to the trip came through...the visa.

So for the next few weeks you will get to hear about my plans for my very first trip to China. I am getting excited. Need to lose 5 more lbs in the next few weeks. So very motivated these days.

How wunderbar! When I lived in Korea I went to Beijing twice (one 3-day tour in 2000 and one in 2001). Amazing place! Great motivation to lose 5 pounds.

It's way to cold....

Thursday, January 03, 2013

You know it's cold when the dogs don't want to go outside.

Today went for a great 45 minute walk outside. It was so nice. There is something invigorating about being outside in the cold. It's like you are challenging the elements to get the better of you....and more often than not...the elements win.

So it's day three of the new year and I am slowly revving up. Each day farther from Christmas makes it easier to get back into the swing of things. Lets hope it not a trick my mind is playing on me.

Ready for tomorrow.

I find the cold weather invigorating, if you don't have to be out in it for long...thank God for my home workout equipment.

And you know there's snow on the ground when the cats cling to the screen door. Thanks for this post. Almost every day is a nice day for a walk, but it isn't always obvious when we look out the window.

I live where it's cold, too, Northeast Wisconsin. I don't do well when it comes to keeping active in the winter. I'd rather sit my butt inside where it's warm (as you can tell). Reading your blog tonight made me think twice about not going outside and "letting the elements win". I am thinking tomorrow would be a great day to get out and at least go around the block once. I'm sure I could more than handle that. I'm writing myself a note and hoping I don't ignore it tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement.

Here's to both of our continued success. emoticon
