Just got back from watching the movie "Easy A". There was a song featured in it that was pretty hilarious. Now it is stuck in my head. The more I think about it, the more it applies to my journey. Look at the first few lyrics:
I got a pocket got a pocketful of sunshine
I got a love and i know that it's all mine oh oh oh oh
Do what you want but you're never gonna break me
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me oh oh oh oh
Now that is pretty motivational! That is inspirational! That is almost dance worthy! OK, it IS dance worthy!!
I just read a blog or something on sparkpeople (so, so, so many good articles on here) that talks about how spark is not about losing weight only. It is about a new attitude. It is about a new life. It is about a new way of thinking. Some questions to ask myself:
- Do I have a pocket full of sunshine?
- Do I have a love that is all mine?
- Do I have something that can't be broken with sticks and stones?
So, now I'm dancing, I'm upbeat, and I'm motivated! I set up an appointment for myself (via the spark planner) that will automatically send me an e-mail tomorrow morning. If I planned it right, it will be right there for me when the kids get up. It reads, "I love you and you are awesome!"

Today I'm running around like crazy trying to clean up for the in-laws, who should be here in about an hour. I'm sweating, my heart rate is elevated, and I haven't started cleaning yet. lol
Actually, I have started cleaning. I moved the piano (electric ~45 pounds) downstairs and carried a few loads of laundry up and down two flights of stairs. So I am working up a good sweat.
I started this morning with a bit of Wii Fit and got another little weight loss. Yay me! Then.... (read "Then dot dot dot) the kids got up. Right when I was trying to do Yoga. Yeah, Yoga and young kids don't mix so well. Especially when you are lying on the floor trying to do some poses and your 40 pounds son thinks it funny to step on various parts of your anatomy.
So, I'm off to clean. We are going to a Yale football game today and I'm going to sneak in some healthy snacks (peanuts, carrots, green beans, and whatever else I can find).
I didn't go to the movies last night, instead I played with my Wii. Almost sounds dirty and it was...lots of sweat. Got my fitness coach and she is kicking my butt. It felt great.
Tonight should be the new movie night. Probably will sneak in some healthy snack and get a coffee there. I'll be sure to leave some calories available for whatever coffee I choose.
Have a great weekend everyone. Stick to your goals and stay motivated!

“You are awesome!” That is the e-mail I got this morning. It came to my work e-mail, right about 9:30 a.m. Who sent it? ME! Last night via the spark appointment book. I was going through the sparkpoints, seeing if there were any easy points I could get before bed. There was something in there about making an appointment. Well, I knew that by 9, things get crazy here at work. Getting that in my e-mail, brought a smile to my face and added an extra little motivation to my day.
I look at motivation as being like a bank. You can either make deposits or withdraws. This was definitely a positive deposit and increased my motivational balance for the day. (I’ll have to blog about motivation banks later…writing it down in my “to blog about” list).
In other news, we went to the farmers market yesterday with the kids. This was great. Not only did I get a bunch of veggies for a cheap price, but the kids (and me) got to learn a bunch of veggies they’ve never been exposed to before. Of the things we bought, we ended up using a pumpkin and an eggplant. The pumpkin made a few nice roasted seeds and I cooked the pumpkin and made pumpkin bread from scratch. Even though I didn’t log the exercise, all those ingredients and cleaning felt like a good little calorie burner. As for the eggplant, I was trying to convince myself to like it. I usually can’t stand the texture. I found a nice recipe here on sparkpeople. It came out as a spicy eggplant French Fry.
My walking partner got sprayed by a skunk this morning. My wife let him out to use the restroom and within seconds he found this nice furry creature that produced a wicked smell. After an impromptu dog washing ceremony, I didn’t have much time to work out. I’m still going strong on my streak of getting 90 minutes of cardio in every day, so I’ll fit it in. Three 15 minute sessions during the day during work (breaks and lunch) and then 45 minutes before I go see a movie tonight.
Hopefully I’ll be back on here tomorrow to blog about a positive movie experience. I just read one of the sparkblogs about what they bring to the movies and found it very helpful.

This morning started out good. I got up, huddled in a few spark groups, stretched and took the dog for a nice walk. Then, things got a little hectic. Don’t ask me how, but I knocked some wine from the counter onto my ironing board. I did my best to wipe it up, but if my pants smell like wine...well, there’s a reason. Then, my son comes out of the room and says he had an accident. He still wears diapers at night, but I still had to take time to clean it up. Meanwhile, I have to leave out the door to catch the bus in 5 minutes. I’m rushing to get dressed and only after I’m about done, I notice my son must have opened the bathroom shutters (sorry neighbors for the image). So, I walked out the door, smelling like alcohol and being unshaven; kind of the image a drunk person might present (lol).
Lol, at least I got my exercise in and had lunch already packed. Perhaps I should take this as a lesson learned and pack lunch AND iron the night before. I feel good because I walked, packed a healthy lunch, lost a little more weight, and am making the right choices.

Curse you Oreo cookies! Yesterday I was showing a couple of co-workers how I could log my food into Spark People and how it helps me stay within my range. My example was a small serving of cake. I was TRYING to make a point about how you can eat almost anything and still lose weight. Well today, my boss brings in a BIG pack of Oreos. NOOOOOOOO….. This is one of my few true weaknesses. Think Superman and kryptonight here. The problem is…I CAN NOT stop eating Oreos. Growing up, I would polish off entire bags in one sitting, thus the reason for my plumpness. Uggg…..
Needless to say, I have logged every single piece of cookie that has crossed my lips. I’ve also resumed eating the healthy lunch and breakfast that I had made/packed. Thankfully, I got my walk in this morning and will probably do some more Wii Fit or Grand Slam Tennis tonight.
The second part of my strategy was, when the boss wasn’t looking, gave her Oreos away! I literally stood out in the hall and kept asking passerby folks if they wanted the rest of them. Whew, they are finally out of my sight. Now…back to my bowl of peas (yummy).
