Spring into Shape Bootcamp Challenge- Week 2

Saturday, May 12, 2012

I weighed myself yesterday which was a BIG mistake. I've gained weight. I'm not sure if it's from all the treats we were given for Teacher Appreciation Week or the fact that I had to increase my calorie intake from working out so much...or both. Anyway, I'm trying not to let it get me down.
I measured myself with no discernible results. I'm trying to focus on that fact that I am NOT 21 anymore, and it's going to take more work to get lean and fit. And that has become my mantra: You are not 21 anymore. You will have to work harder.

Discouraged

Sunday, September 18, 2011

It's quite discouraging when I get amped-up for a new workout system, such as training for the Virtual 5K or trying a unique 6-week workout plan, and then life throws me a curve ball or two. Teaching is stressful. Commuting an hour to work and not being able to run in the evening is stressful. But getting sick because of all the stress is the most discouraging part.
I just want to be active and loaded with endorphins going into the cold, Fall and Winter months.

Thank you so much for the encouragement, ladies!
@CANNONSMC: I teach 2nd grade at a rural school. Since we have a lot of kids who eat poorly (or sometimes not at all), I've been trying to do some Brain Breaks that get them, and myself, moving. They love it! We do dancing, basic yoga poses, and our PE teacher assigns 3 exercises to try a month. Some days it's hard to remember to take those breaks when we're under so much pressure to perform, but I find that they are more focused afterward. emoticon

I know exactly how you feel. I wish there were more hours in the day. :-)

I teach, too. The stress is definitely there. I'm also realizing that I stay healthier and deal with the stress better when I exercise. Sorry that you've been sick. Set a realistic goal for getting back to the routine when you are feeling better. I start my day with exercise--it's the strategy that works for me.

Do you have any stress management and exercise strategies? Could you listen to inspirational or stress management books/music during the commute? Commuting itself is stressful unless you figure out a way to make it less stressful.

I don't know what age you teach but some student behaviors are related to their own stress. Building in stress management techniques could be good for you and them. "You've all been sitting awhile--let's all stand up and stretch our arms up for a second. Okay, now let's get focused again." Just a thought:)

Hope you are back on track soon.

I can feel your pain, Sarah. Get yourself feeling healthy again and start slowly to get back into the exercise mode. Keep your chin up
