Happy new year & merry 12th day of Christmas! (Or 11th? I always thought January 6 [tomorrow] was the 12th day, but when I count starting with December 25, today is the 12th. Must investigate this!)
My main 2013 goal is shrinkage! I don't wish to have a smaller life or to take up less psychic space in the world, but I need to shrink my body a bit to get back to feeling like myself, & I also need to shrink debt. Here are the steps I'm taking.
I'm going to return to my travel-savings reward system, updating it to address my current concerns. I'll put $25 into vacation savings each week if I've accomplished these three things:
1. exercise 150 minutes/week
2. eat within recommended calorie range that week (or shrink on the scale!)
3. do something proactive to reduce debt--e.g., make good progress on a freelance project, refrain from eating out
1. I'll favor the 28-Day Bootcamp & (just ordered) Total Body Sculpting routines, as they combine cardio, ST, & balance & really burn calories. I'll do one of those at least twice a week, alternating with outdoor fast walking or indoor Leslie Sansone routines (which I beef up by including jogging intervals if they're not already included).
2. I'm going to nest an extra motivator within this goal: I find tracking very time-consuming, especially because housemate & I cook from scratch & don't always follow recipes. Plus I already know the calorie content of most of the foods that I eat on a regular basis. BUT I need to track to get myself back on track. So after a couple of weeks, as long as I'm continuing to lose weight & bodyfat, I'll get a break from tracking. But any week that weight or bodyfat increases, I go back to tracking.
3. I have joined SparkGuy's Savings Jar Club, & earlier this week I put together a budget. It's hard to quantify paying off debt on a weekly basis, as I am paid monthly at my full-time job & thus make credit-card payments monthly rather than weekly. And my freelance jobs ebb & flow, & so does the promptness of payment (e.g., I'm still waiting for payment of an invoice I sent out Nov. 15!--it's a long-term client, a university, so I know I'll get paid eventually). That's why I have left this goal open-ended--it will serve to remind me of other ways I can increase savings & reduce debt. I will carry a notebook & log everything I spend day to day, & I'll periodically compare my budget to actual income & spending to make sure I'm on track. This year I intend to go out to eat even less, but invite friends over for dinner more often--that will save $$ but increase festivity!
