Sounds like a good plan---I like the eating on the porch. I am always going to take the time to eat on the back porch but just don't do it. I'm gonna just sit and sip my smoothie in the morning before I walk--just sits & thinks. emoticon

Friday: 3-2 + -1!

Friday, July 25, 2008

I'm down a pound--woohoo! That's the -1.

And I missed exercising two mornings this week because of insufficient sleep once & insomnia once (in my life those are two different problems). But I did go running--delicious, along the lakeshore--this morning. So two runs this week & one strength training session; tomorrow morning I'll work with weights again.

I feel so responsible to myself & others when I post a reward plan. That is, accountable not just to do the exercise but also to give myself the rewards! I now have most of the Colombia poems printed out & am working on them during part of my commute.

And last night I checked the Grant Park Symphony schedule to figure out my free concert! Turns out the Sat. night concert is solos by an operatic tenor, which are not my thing. Tonight, though, the orchestra will be playing a set of Russian pieces (Sibelius, Mussorgsky, & I can't remember what other composer), & that's appealing.

The concert starts at 6:30, & the park pavilion is downtown, between my workplace & home. So this morning after breakfast I took extra time to pack my lunch & figure out what I'll do for supper (buy a sandwich in the office cafeteria & pack it in my by-then-empty lunch container). I also pulled out my folding chair with its carrying sling & brought it with me to the office.

It reminded me that rewards take time & planning too. It's all part of living consciously & thoughtfully, connecting exercising & careful eating to happy experiences, making me feel privileged & grateful.

That's really a rather huge concept. I want to keep thinking & blogging about it.

So far, 1-1

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

I did get up & go running yesterday, & it was just great--I was able to go the whole 30 mins. without slowing to a walk.

Last night I made a pretty wonderful stir-fry with a bunch of CSA veggies, tofu, ginger, & a bit of lemon balm & curry plant from my own herb garden. Yum!

But I continued working in the kitchen & ended up getting to bed past 11. With two short nights of sleep in a row (Monday I woke up an hour early & couldn't get back to sleep), I just couldn't haul myself out of bed to go running this morning. The good thing is that we now have curried black-eyed peas plus leftover stir-fried veggies plus brown rice that we can heat up easily for dinners this week--so it should be easier to make my bedtimes the next few nights.

I weighed myself today & was relieved to see that I hadn't added any MORE pounds in the last week or so. Hope to see the ticker moving down soon!

Recombobulating

Sunday, July 20, 2008

I didn't quite make my July 15 freelance deadline, because (1) my aunt died & I needed to attend her funeral & (2) my daughter had knee surgery & I needed to accompany her & then go back two days later to see her through some complications. But the project coordinator was understanding, & I did finish the work for the interim deadline last night.

My aunt was 88, & she lived a long, generous life, so her funeral was mostly a celebration. She was my dad's only surviving sibling, & of course he & his wife came to the funeral; we got to host them for two nights, which was lovely.

And my daughter is doing fine. Her church community is looking out for her, taking meals, & sometimes women friends are staying with her too. We are praying that she'll recover quickly--she does hate to be inactive.

I still have the second half of the freelance project to finish in the next two months, so I'm not exactly a lady of leisure at this point. But I'm making some plans today to try to keep life more balanced during that time. That includes renewed focus on fitness & proper eating, of course!

Just so this post isn't TOO long, I'm going to make my fitness reward plan for the coming week a separate post.

I'm happy to be back & look forward to catching up with everyone!

    Hi Ruth,
Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your aunt - but isn't it wonderful when the funeral is more of a celebration?

Hope your daughter makes a quick recovery.
