Day 15 - Half way there.

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Half way to my restart date, that is.

My goals for this week:
1) Get enough sleep to function semi-normally. emoticon
2) Drink enough water to keep the headaches away. emoticon
3) 5+ fruits & veggies emoticon
4) Track my food even if the total calories is not where it should be. emoticon
5) Move! I'm up to four scheduled walk dates a week and have been putting about 120 minutes on the Garmin. Time to add more. Emily loves her stroller rides. I have no excuse. emoticon
6) Begin a basic (at home) strength training program. Do it three times.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning which was quite disappointing BUT I'll do it tomorrow. Hoping to see a more realistic drop (1-2 pounds). Don't get me wrong 10 and 6 pound losses were nice but I don't see that as helpful in the long term.

Such a sweet little girl - beautiful memory that I got to hold her :)

Your goals sound very do-able, and sensible for a mom coming back after pregnancy. So glad Roo loves her stroller.

Day 8 - Feeling off track

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

Despite a 16 pound loss in the past two weeks, I still feel like the poster child for "unhealthy". I cannot pass the Halloween candy w/o grabbing a handful. I cannot go out & go for a walk w/o having a date. Okay, that part's not so bad because I have accountability on 4 days per week with run club & stroller group. Regardless, my food choices suck, my water intake is low and my motivation is "thpppt!".
C'MON December 7th!!!! Momma needs a doctor's approval to get it goin' again.

First of all, put the candy where you can't see it --- so it's not so handy to have every time you walk by.

Then, don't worry about going out for a long walk. Bundle her up for ten minutes, or just a walk around the block. I used to just put my oldest into the snuggly, and wear the coat I was wearing while pregnant - doesn't take too long to get ready. Tell yourself that Roo needs some fresh air, and then go get some. Just being outdoors will help to raise your spirits.

Take care P!

Day 3 - It's the simplest things...

Friday, November 04, 2011

This morning was the first time in 13 weeks that I've actually SHAVED my legs. Don't get me wrong, I haven't been working my way into the land of the sasquatch, but it felt SO good to hold a razor again and not a bottle of Nair.

Today's goals were much the same as yesterday.
Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of water. emoticon
Eat a MINIMUM of 5 fruits and/or vegetables. emoticon
Walk 15 -30 minutes on three different days. Not really, unless you count walking around Walmart for half an hour.
Track religiously. emoticon I'm over but I was hungry so I don't care.

Emily has her first check up with the doctor tomorrow. She's supposed to have gained weight since her last check in with the nurse on Tuesday. If she doesn't I'll be a little more than a little surprised... emoticon She eats ALL THE TIME. And on that scream, I gotta run.

Day 2

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

Today I followed the cardinal rule of having a new baby - "sleep when the baby sleeps" and slept until noon. Give or take a few (READ: every three hours) feedings through the night and up until noon, I had a fantastic sleep.

Today's goals:
Shower - Didn't happen.
Drink the minimum of 8 glasses of water and then add a few more for Roo emoticon
Eat a minimum of 5 fruits/veggies emoticon
Walk, with Roo, to the end of the alley and back - it's not much of a walk but she needs to get acclimatized to our weather and *I* need the fresh air. - Didn't happen.
Lastly, I'm going to stay within my calorie goals. I accidentally blew this one yesterday. I won't be so careless today. emoticon

If I can figure out how to use my sling, I'm going to go to Run Club tonight to see the gang. We went to class last night so I could introduce her to my crew but tonight EVERYONE wants to meet her and, again, *I* need the fresh air.

I just love these little hands. Too bad I didn't notice the Hughy hair she held in her grasp when I took it. Then again, he loves her and seems to have claimed her as his SO maybe it's not so bad.

**UPDATED** I've adjusted my calorie intake to 1,539 - 1,889. I found a website that determined my requirements based on my age, current weight, height and activity level.

Okay-so scrap the scolding on the other blog! so glad to see you adjusted your calories but did that calculator take into account the breastfeeding of a newborn? (just asking...)
had to laugh at your shower goal: that's still a goal of mine with a 18 month old since I have no built in babysitter now.:(
LOVE the tiny hands...sooo sweet and so smart of you to get a pic of it. Another one I got of each baby: the back of their heads with their newborn hair. after a month, it will be different ~AAAhhh...newborns emoticon

Reigniting my Spark

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

I read an ad for Nike that said, "Yesterday, you said tomorrow" and it reminded me of how, for the last few months of my pregnancy, I kept saying "I will go to the gym tomorrow" and how tomorrow never came. This morning I woke up, weighed myself (10 pounds down from last week's pregnancy weight) and set about resetting things on Sparkpeople. I'm now back in Stage 2, I've no "streaks" and I have a new set of caloric goals for the day. (1200-1550) I also have a new cardio plan that requires me to burn about a third of the calories that I'm used to, for now. My jogging stroller handles like a dream so, once I'm allowed to walk for more that 15-30 minutes at a time, I'll readjust.
This week's goals:
Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of water. - The lactation consultant says this is a priority if I want to continue feeding Emily breast milk. I do. So I will drink.
Eat a MINIMUM of 5 fruits and/or vegetables.
Walk 15 -30 minutes on three different days.
Track religiously.

Today's results:
Water - I drank 9 glasses! emoticon
Fruit/Veggies - I had 5 servings. emoticon
Walk - not today
Track - done! Unfortunately, I ate a cookie at Timmy's that I thought I'd entered and it turns out the program glitched. At any rate, I had another snack thinking that I was way under and now I'm over. 178.

Tomorrow, I'll be more careful. I have really great motivation for being an example of health.

Okay-fellow mother/friend/runner stepping in here. I'm with BUSYMOM and Judi-cut yourself some slack. Your calorie range will NOT support a breastfeeding baby-trust me,I've been there and done that. Lots of water is very important(though too much can actually inhibit milk production) but eating MORE calories of good healthy food is super important. Concentrate on the basics: produce, lean protein and whole grains with some fats. Think about what kind of milk you want Roo to drink: skim(low fat/calorie diet for you) or full fat(more calories and some healthy fats for you)? She'll be alot happier with the latter and your body will thank you as well. Aim for 1800 at least.
That said, you know yourself better than me but I learned thru the years of pregnancy/recovery that at least the first month after birth I eat more than I'd like to(in order to lose weight) in order to help fuel my body for healing and nursing.
I LOVE the pic of your 3 angels. OMG! I am soooo happy for you and Paul!!! the boys must be overjoyed!

1200 calories for a breastfeeding mom? That doesn't sound right to me Penny, so please check that out with a nutritionist or your doctor. I know you do your homework, so you've likely got it under control!

Great job getting some goals in place. I wish I had had a jogging stroller when my boys were babes. Sweet days - enjoy!

Penny, if there's any time that you can cut yourself a little slack, it's during your pregnancy and right after you have a baby. I know you want to be a good role model and you know what? You are! You are still a hundred times ahead of where your were in that "before" picture you've got on your page -- you're a runner now, you want different things for yourself and your family, you've motivated hundred of others to be the best they can be. So take it easy right now and enjoy Roo because she'll only be a little newborn for so long. And when the time is right, you'll get back to that smokin' runners body. But for the moment, just be Mom to your boys and to your new baby girl. Hugs to you all.
