Reigniting my Spark

I read an ad for Nike that said, "Yesterday, you said tomorrow" and it reminded me of how, for the last few months of my pregnancy, I kept saying "I will go to the gym tomorrow" and how tomorrow never came. This morning I woke up, weighed myself (10 pounds down from last week's pregnancy weight) and set about resetting things on Sparkpeople. I'm now back in Stage 2, I've no "streaks" and I have a new set of caloric goals for the day. (1200-1550) I also have a new cardio plan that requires me to burn about a third of the calories that I'm used to, for now. My jogging stroller handles like a dream so, once I'm allowed to walk for more that 15-30 minutes at a time, I'll readjust.
This week's goals:
Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of water. - The lactation consultant says this is a priority if I want to continue feeding Emily breast milk. I do. So I will drink.
Eat a MINIMUM of 5 fruits and/or vegetables.
Walk 15 -30 minutes on three different days.
Track religiously.

Today's results:
Water - I drank 9 glasses! emoticon
Fruit/Veggies - I had 5 servings. emoticon
Walk - not today
Track - done! Unfortunately, I ate a cookie at Timmy's that I thought I'd entered and it turns out the program glitched. At any rate, I had another snack thinking that I was way under and now I'm over. 178.

Tomorrow, I'll be more careful. I have really great motivation for being an example of health.

    Okay-fellow mother/friend/runner stepping in here. I'm with BUSYMOM and Judi-cut yourself some slack. Your calorie range will NOT support a breastfeeding baby-trust me,I've been there and done that. Lots of water is very important(though too much can actually inhibit milk production) but eating MORE calories of good healthy food is super important. Concentrate on the basics: produce,lean protein and whole grains with some fats. Think about what kind of milk you want Roo to drink: skim(low fat/calorie diet for you) or full fat(more calories and some healthy fats for you)? She'll be alot happier with the latter and your body will thank you as well. Aim for 1800 at least.
That said, you know yourself better than me but I learned thru the years of pregnancy/recovery that at least the first month after birth I eat more than I'd like to(in order to lose weight) in order to help fuel my body for healing and nursing.

    1200 calories for a breastfeeding mom? That doesn't sound right to me Penny, so please check that out with a nutritionist or your doctor. I know you do your homework, so you've likely got it under control!

Great job getting some goals in place. I wish I had had a jogging stroller when my boys were babes. Sweet days - enjoy!

    Penny, if there's any time that you can cut yourself a little slack, it's during your pregnancy and right after you have a baby. I know you want to be a good role model and you know what? You are! You are still a hundred times ahead of where your were in that "before" picture you've got on your page -- you're a runner now, you want different things for yourself and your family, you've motivated hundred of others to be the best they can be. So take it easy right now and enjoy Roo because she'll only be a little newborn for so long. And when the time is right, you'll get back to that smokin' runners body. But for the moment, just be Mom to your boys and to your new baby girl. Hugs to you all.

4 POINTS FOR FRIDAY!!

I have to tell you a little bit about my day. First, my alarm went off at 6:30, no big deal, as it always does when the boys are with me so I can get them up & ready for school. Unfortunately, I kind of forgot they were here (not used to mid-week drop offs) and cussed at my phone thinking someone was texting me at that unGodly hour. Up, showered & dressed - boys at school on time!
Spent the better part of the next five hours with my mother.......... ok, not going to talk about that because I want this to be a positive blog emoticon
Went to "work" for my baby shower. Got spoiled with presents for Roo & I. Phenomenal!
When I got home, I noticed there was an envelope from one of the contractors that I used to do billing for. Before I left, I'd worked my butt off trying to get his past due invoices reconciled and processed. His wife, AKA his book keeper, had said "send me your home address as we'd like to send you a little something for your efforts". At the time, I was thinking baby present, flowers, chocolate.... Well, I opened the envelope and there was an invoice, payable to me, in the amount of $500 for "auditing and accounting magic" and a cheque for the same amount settling the account. I burst into tears. Colin said "MOM, what's wrong?!" and I just stood there. I couldn't make words. I've never felt so appreciated in the 7 years that I've worked for that company.
Oh! and while I was at work, I bought 50/50 tickets - won $28 emoticon
To say that this has been a good day, is an understatement. I feel truly blessed.

6 weeks to go (in theory)

So, with all this time off, I've been trying to keep busy and not go stir-crazy. Some days are more successful than others. I'm not really comfortable walking for super-long periods of time and my back hurts when I drive too much so puttering around the house is my new pass time.
I think my best idea so far was the Thursday that I treated myself to a mani/pedi. I did go out on Monday for a haircut AND a little shopping but then I spent the afternoon watching tv.
I'm *loving* watching "The Doctors" but a lot has changed since Logan was born and there isn't much on tv during the day. Thank goodness! I'd never get any housework done otherwise emoticon
I have to say, I'm really looking forward to having my endurance and body back. Laundry is exhausting and I NEVER thought I'd ever say that again. (of course, so it tying my shoes....)

I'm heading off for a check-up today. I swear if he tells me I haven't gained enough, I'm up 26.5 pounds, I'll kick him in the groin.

Jenn, I've been playing her mobile for her and trying to find a lullabye that's in my range (limited as it is). It's funny, Logan was a traditional "Hush little baby" kind of boy. Colin, on the other hand, loved "Mercedes Benz" by Janis Joplin. It still calms them both to hear "their" songs. Roo hasn't shown an interest in anything yet. She really boogies to techno though.
Judi, he was pretty happy with my weight gain today. He even smiled when he read the numbers. She's petite but she's right on track.

Today I will -

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

- eat three meals and two snacks
- drink 8 glasses of water
- take my dog for a walk
- unload the dishwasher
- run the crib bedding through the washer and put it on Roo's bed
- sweep and dust the main floor of the house
- go to my Ultrasound on time & ready
OOHH! and read at least a chapter (or three) from my current book "the Help".

Tonight, I will try to run 5 or 6 kilometres but I will probably end up doing them on my bike. Either way, I'll get my 30 minutes of activity that I want.
Not too crazy a plan but one that should keep me thinking ahead and on track.
