Plateau Buster Challenge - End of Week One

Week One:
The challenge was to incorporate new cardio routines one or two times this week. Monday, I went and walked the stairs for an hour. Friday, we introduced speed training to our running schedule.
For the week ending Sunday, April 11th, I lost 0.8 kg.

Week 2:
This challenge begins on Sunday, April 10th.
This week's challenge is to aim for a wider variety of foods and mix up your calories at least three times a week. Instead of eating at the bottom of your range all the time (or the middle, or the top), try a few days at the lower end, a few days in the middle and a few days at the top. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

This week should be a real challenge as I'm already having issues staying within my range for calories. Bleah. I don't like food challenges.... yet

    Suezette, the stairs that I did during that week were just training stairs ... On the 17th, though, I climbed the Calgary Tower in support of the Alberta Wilderness Assoc.

    Way to go! Where did you climb stairs? Was it for a fund raiser type thingie? I've heard of those but haven't been to one.

    Under "Healthy Lifestyle" in the start page bar there's a choice called "Motivation". After you click on that, there's a picture of a group of four people and the words "Challenge Central". Click on that. The "Plateau Buster" challenge is on-going but there's another in May called: SparkPeople's Official Healthy Habits Challenge. I've also joined that one (following Nancy's lead).
I'm going to do the Climb this weekend. It's not optional, I'm determined to climb those dang stairs.
The snow is not gone... it was.. and then it started to snow again today. I'm seriously considering moving to Arizona LOL

    Where are you getting these challenges from? Are you just making them up for yourself? What have you decided about the C4W challenge? Is your snow all gone yet? We were supposed to get rain today, and I even washed my car to try to insure it, but no such luck. It was all cloudy and gloomy this morning, looked promising, then the darn wind came up and blew all the clouds away.

Keep us posted on how this works, since I'm on a killer plateau myself I might have to give it a try, although I also don't like food/calorie challenges.

  Sorry about the snow. Here in Manitoba it is ok for temp but the last 2 days have been very windy. We might get snow on Monday. I sure hope not. We just got rid of all our snow.

I get emails from Biggest Loser club all the time. MOST OF THE TIME, I just delete them because MOST of the time, it's all common sense stuff. Today, however, I thought it was kind of neat. It gave me an assignment and I like those. So here's what it entails : Try listing your top 5 choices in each category:

TOP 5 VICTORIES YOU'VE EXPERIENCED UP TO NOW IN YOUR JOURNEY.
(In no particular order)
~reduced my weight from 181 to 128(ish) ALMOST what I weighed in high school
~ran a dozen half marathons and countless other 10, 8 and 5 km "races"
~changed my lifestyle in a positive enough way that my children are adopting it, too.
~encouraged 100's of runners to complete their goals AND even got some non-runners to START running.
~cycled over 150 kms in two days and climbed 1512 stairs with little or no training (all just because I'm a healthier me now) I should add, not on the same day.

    I think my niece is going to do the Regina Marathon. She did the Royal Victoria last fall. She ran the Hypothermic race as well. I keep trying to talk her into doing this one I saw that is on Easter Island. *lol* As far as what my goals are, man, I have no idea. That sounds like a cop-out I am sure but I just don't want to put pressure on myself because that's when my head gets weird and right now it is in a good place and I would like to keep it there.

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in other peoples lives, I subscribe to 100 blogs, that I forget that somebody, somewhere might be interested in what's going on in my world.
This weekend I'm away from home with PEHASS2 visiting his parents on their miniature horse farm. Actually, we opted to stay at the Ramada because we brought Hughy and the boys with us. ANYWAY... somewhere in the fitness centre, I found my ST spark. I'm so happy. I haven't done any in so long, that didn't involve my Thursday night Functional Fitness class, and I was actually giddy with joy when I dripped sweat on the floor - LOL.

My plan for April:
Running - continue training for my HMs in May (1st and 14th). This includes running steady, tempo and LSDs for the next four weeks. (ie: run 3x/week)

Strength training - this'll be the hard one. In addition to going to FF on Thursdays, I'd like to make a new habit of getting up early and going to my gym at least twice a week. I'm thinking Tuesday/Thursday or Tuesday/Saturday.

Nutrition - someone at work asked me if I always eat healthy and I told them "80% of the time". This month, I'd actually like to follow through. I gotta stop blowing my M-F's hard work on the weekends.

Speaking of work... let's get a job related goal in here - get organized. Get calm. My job is starting to effect me because some of the people I work with act like they're in high school. I can't change that... but I CAN ignore it and get on with my day.

That's about it. I'll check back in a week (or less) and let you know how things are going. TTFN!

  True true...you can't change anyone elses behavior, but you can control how you react to it. I so know about the high school mentality thing. I have had to drop a few friends recently, but I made new ones, and they enjoy doing active things with me on a regular basis.

So about that kickboxing? hahaha might be a good way to get rid of some of the work stress!

As for the ST, if I may, I would recommend T-Sat, and that way you're getting 3 ST sessions in a week, 2 days apart. Then (if you want MY opinion, though I notice you didn't ask, LOL! so take it for what it's worth emoticon ) you could run on Monday, wednesday and Friday, or make one of those days Sunday for your LSD run, and have one day off. Well, that's pretty much how I do it anyway, Mon-Wed-Fri is ST days, and my run days are T-Th-Sat, with Sunday as my rest day.

Anyway, good job on the goals! I think I need to make some April Goals...

    Oh Penny-I need to do this! Not only with my eating-I am usually in my range but not eating all the right stuff. Plus I would like to drop about 5lbs. But the main thing is just setting some goals...sometimes I just feel as if I am floating along. Plus get my neck taken care of and other health issues that just keep getting in the way! I digress. Sounds like you have a great plan! I am so glad you found your spark again. Keep it up.

    I made a goal last October to get organized at work. It took me about six weeks before I could call it done, but I love (LOVE) how I feel in my office now. And work is almost easier, cause I can find things so much better. I don't think I've had to "look" for a file since then.

Must be time to blog

It's been over a month since I put anything up here that was "substantial" so it must be time.

Running. Today is my 6th anniversary as a runner. On March 24th, 2006 I entered my first "Women's only learn to run" class. We did 6 sets (?) of two minutes of walking and one minute of running and, by the time I was done, I decided that I was never running again. Boy was I mistaken. emoticon In the past six years I've lost count of how many 5, 8 and 10 kilometre runs I've done and I've also run 12 half marathons. I even walked a half marathon in one of the coldest days in February that I've ever experienced. BRR. I have so much respect for my walking buddies now.

Food. This has been a very different kind of month for me. I've tried to track everything but some days I eat so much that putting it out there is just painful.

Exercise. I've started posting all of my runs on Facebook so I have more accountability for those. I've run over 73 kms in 7 runs. Not a bad month so far. My only regret about my exercise is that I haven't done my strength training. That's my current goal for April: Bring back strength training. Even if I have to be at my gym at 7:00 in the morning to do it.

Weight. I weigh the same today as I did at the beginning of the month. There was a gain in the middle but it's gone again. I'd love to see 125 again but, apparently, I'm destined to weight 128. I'll take it. I'm by no means fat or unfit or unhealthy. I'm just right. And modest, too.

Stress. Well, my stress level is no where near what it was last year. I'm back in a salaried position making enough money to feed & clothe my kids, pay my bills and still buy running shoes. I can't ask for anything more than that.

Health. I'm good. And I'm grateful.

Sleep. I'm still struggling to get 7 hours a night. The good news is that, when I don't, it's for a really good reason.

    I loved reading about your running adventures. I never ran before until about 3 years ago. You are in inspriration. I just did a 5k but need to get s goal for more races. Thanks for making me think about doing more! Keep it up!

I'm struggling with the eating and the ST-ing too! I've been trying to come up with a plan for April myself. I hope to have it all figured out and blogged before the 1st.

    Nice recap of where you are versus where you've been. With all of those races under your belt, you are certainly an inspiration to many of us who aspire to run longer distances, just because of how we feel when we run.
I am with you on the food thing. Not only is it painful, logging and eating all of that food is time consuming. Time which could be better spent.

  You have such an inspiring running history! I absolutely give you some of the credit for motivating me to get out and join the Running Room! I check out each run you post on Facebook!

I'm in the same boat as you are, I track to a point but somedays I eat so much that I am embarrassed to track it and I have been doing zero weight training. I think April will be a great month for us to turn it all around :)
