According to the Fitness Depot website, my BMI is 22.1 which is "normal" weight. (18.5-24.9) They base this on my height, weight, gender and age. I'm okay with normal. =) The provincial average is 26.4 and the national average is 26.3 -- so now I'm below average, too. I guess that part's ok.
They also offer these bits of advice:
· A mixture of cardio and resistance training is the best way to build muscle tone while at the same time maintaining a healthy weight.
· Interval training is a great way to boost your current exercise activity, improve endurance and spark a renewed interest in your workout routine.
· Resistance training can help raise your metabolism, help you avoid injuries, and strengthen bones – this is especially important for women, who are at higher risk for osteoporosis as they get older.
· Offset strength training with core strengthening and flexibility exercises – it will help prevent injuries and are very important aspects of good physical fitness.
· Canada's Physical Activity Guide recommends that you accumulate 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week – the good news is you can accumulate your activity in 10-minute sessions.
· Overall, it's best to choose exercises you enjoy doing – you'll be more inclined to stick with a fitness regimen when it includes things you like to do.
I had to giggle a little. One of the products they then recommended for me is the TRX system. Ahhh, NO. LOL, ok sometimes if I have to. The TRX and I have a love/hate relationship. Not sure I'll ever love it enough to put it in my house. Maybe someday.
