Well, I apparently get the dumba$$ award today. After fasting for 30 hours, I attempted to run a race today. I originally signed up for the 12k but settled on the 6k after I saw the race route. It was a two loop course and the first loop almost killed me. Two "lovely" hills and neither of them were little. Canmore is at the base of the Rockies so I should have seen it coming really.
Anyway, about kilometre 3.5 I started to feel woozy and my shins were complaining so I decided to be a smart runner and only do the one loop. Finished in 36:04. Went through the finishers buffet and then told Richard it was time for a burger, fries and gravy :) I had three meals before two o'clock today. BIG meals, too. I will never, ever fast again.
Tomorrow, I'm playing cheerleader to my half marathon clinic grads (some of them) at their first HM. I can't wait to watch them cross the finish line.

As some of you might know, I'm a HM instructor at one of the local Running Rooms here in Calgary. Some days, it takes everything I have to haul my butt out of bed on a Sunday to be there for my "students". I get tired, unmotivated and (gasp) lazy like everyone else but, on a good day, there are 20 people waiting on me to be the leader. It's not crucial that I'm there but knowing that I'm waiting on them gives them a sense of accountability. Just like knowing that they're there gives ME that same sense.
Anyway, each clinic member is expected to give an evaluation of the course. Most of the time it's the same old stuff but every now and then there's one that makes me happy to the point of tears. This time around, it's this one:
Looks like I will be in Edmonton next week. I know you wont be running Saturday so wanted to make sure (If I don't see you before the big race) to thank you for all that you have done for me and my running to date. As you know initially Charlene and I started out running together but as she progressed with her marathon training it out leagued me so I thought I would be running alone and undoubtedly that would have been the end of my running. Charlene suggested running with you and I'm glad she did. You and your group kept me motivated and kept it fun and I thank you for that.
Not sure what the future holds for me, I do want to continue to build on my distance. I am enjoying it so I'll keep plugging along.
I hope you realize how much you are changing peoples lives, making them healthier, happier,stronger both physically and mentally. Keep up the great work and thanks again.
I'm going to see if I can give some feedback for you. Not sure if I can since I am not an official member but will try and leave some feed back as a drop in. It's the least I can do.

I think that, so far, my biggest accomplishment has been running a half marathon. Second place goes to climbing the Calgary Tower's 802 stairs six times. They were both huge challenges and they both gave me the same feeling of pride when I was done.
I always tell people, mostly runners, that there are three kinds of people in this world: those that think they cannot run a half marathon, those that think they'll NEVER run a half marathon and those that want to but just need that final push... you know, "fence sitters". Anyone that thinks they cannot will not. Running 21.1 kms is a mental game and, if you've already told yourself that it's impossible then, well, it will be. My favourite kind of people are the "Nevers". Mostly because I was one. When I ran my first five kilometers I told everyone that was it, I'd never run anything more than I'd already had. Somehow, I got talked into a ten kilometer clinic and I finished saying that I'd NEVER run farther than that. I don't know when it happened or how but in January 2006, I signed up for my first Half Marathon clinic. In the following May, I completed the Vancouver Half Marathon in 2:45. Not my most amazing time ever but it laid the groundwork and, since then, I've run eight more. Now my time to beat is 2:08 Fence sitters are fun - usually all they need to see is the hardware. It's amazing what a little bling will do.

Ok so it's now Wednesday and, so far, this week has not been stellar. I have been on my water (of all things) for two days. Technically, I hit on Monday but I should have had more in preparation for my Tuesday run. I hit my goal (6) for F&V on Monday as well but Tuesday, I didn't come close. Four servings. Bleh. And two of them were on my pizza. So I broke another rule: I had fast food.
Todays game plan is to get it all back on track. LOL, isn't it always? One day at a time, one meal at a time (who's sparksig did I see that on??) that's how I'm addressing this journey from now on.
Thankfully, I AM on track with my exercise this week.

Had a little boom tonight. I REALLY couldn't fight off my sushi craving. Sparks says 194 calories and then I had my ice cream sandwich (FINALLY) which takes me 292 over. Thankfully, I worked most of that off on the treadmill tonight.
Daily report -
Today, I consumed 1992 calories.
I burned 124 calories on the treadmill.
I scored 12/6 for fruit and veggies.
I got a 10/8 for water.
I'll be back at it tomorrow. I have all my meals are planned. My only "unknown" is the stir fry that Richard and I are going to make for supper. I don't know what he'll buy to put into it or even if it's going to be beef or chicken yet. We've already planned a post meal walk with Hughy, too. I'm taking him with because he doesn't want him to be alone while I'm gone. The rest of the weekend is devoted to quality time and I cannot wait. One of these days I'm going to have to tell him how head over heels for him I am for him.
