An awesome day

Sunday, August 20, 2006

Today I met up with 5 other SP ladies and walked from Bowness Park to Edworthy. It's such a beautiful pathway that you almost forget you're a) in the city and b) excercising. The (b) part comes to a halt when you walk up the first hill. EGADS! Two hours and almost 5 and a half miles later I was very happy to sit down and munch on my veggie snacks that I brought with.
Then came the hard part. In a "brave little toaster" moment, I decided a couple days ago to bike back to Bowness. You know, leave the bike at Edworthy so I wouldn't have to get anyone to pick me up, etc. at the end. Yeh. Great idea. Except for these two things: I haven't riden my bike since I did the Ride for Heart in June of 2004 and the route is full of fricken fracken hills. All good when you're going down them... not so fun when you're going up. Slow & steady really saved my buttocks today.
At any rate, the blister on my foot (my fault) was TOTALLY worth meeting with and talking to the lovely ladies I spent two hours with today. No doubt about it.

Back to Basics

Sunday, August 06, 2006

I went to Yoga for the first time in a year today. It was amazingly difficult for someone who used to do tree pose while brushing their teeth.
I also double checked my calories for last week. Sadly, I'd gone over 5/7 days. Definitely not good.
So this week it'll be back to pre-measuring everything that I eat. More Running. More Yoga. More good things.

Ditto Penny - going on a walk with strangers is waayyyy outside my comfort zone - you'd never guess that by how much I blatter on - but I'm basically an introvert and find meeting new people stressful. I'm so glad I went. I have no goals of ever running - but I do have a book called "Where locals hike in the Canadian Rockies" and I would love to do each and every one of those. Walking with you guys is a small start on that.

Friends

"Friends are precious, not just in the sunshine of life, but especially in the shade".
My goal this year was to drop my "toxic" friends and make new ones that share my interests in a healthy, happy life. So far, I've accomplished that goal but it's been hard. I have some friends that have been around since Elementary school. But I just don't know what to say to them. I've matured, at least I'd like to think so, and they're at the bar til closing time. Smoking. Drinking. Things I either never understood or have stopped understanding now that I'm a Mother. So now I don't talk to my "best" friend from Elementary school. There's another that I rarely talk to but still remain close aquaintances with. I admit, I'm saddened by the loss. OTOH, I cannot endure the negativity that either of these women exude when they are around me.
Now I have made some good friends. Men & women I can count on. Turn to. It feels great. :o) I hope they realize how much their friendship means to me.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
