for it has been 6 days since my last run. I FINALLY did a strength workout today. My muscles are killing me!! Tomorrow I'm going to go for a short run. I just haven't decided whether it will be on the treadmill or outdoors. It has to happen though because I am going crazy! To make matters worse, I have been eating above calorie limit all week. If I haven't gained, I will be VERY surprised. All I know is, I feel fluffy and I hate it.
This coming week will be better.

This was one of the best racing experiences I've ever had. The weather was 10-12 and cloudy/breezy enough to make it an enjoyable run.

We started "seeding" ourselves around quarter to eight. I picked the 2:15 bunny to hang out with. I figured if I stuck with her I'd do better than I did in NS and that's all I wanted from this run. When they said go, though, she took off like her tail was on fire. I did NOT have it in me to go below 6 mins/km for the entire time and dropped back a bit.
At around the 4 km mark, I noticed that I had put Miss Bunny in my dust. She continued to stay there until the very end. I finished in 2:09:33 (according to my Garmin).
I have to say, in the first few kilometres when we were making the "gradual climb" my shins were KILLING me and I started to doubt that I'd be finishing.... then I focussed on other things. Kelowna is a beautiful city. There are apple trees everywhere! I also ran past golf courses, horses and llamas. Once I was able to relax and enjoy the people and things around me, everything became possible again.
There were 13 of us from mine & Howard's clinic at Kelowna. We finished in times ranging from 1:44 to 2:33 and I couldn't be more proud of any of us. I feel so blessed to have had such a great bunch of people to run with these past four months. I know that I've made myself some life-long friends and I'm thankful.

*side note, I've not eaten that many apples in 2 days before in my life--so GOOD*

    Great run Penny! It's so good to read that others have "settling" problems as well, but that you were able to conquer. And I agree that an apple right off the tree -- well there isn't much else that's better. No wonder Adam got into trouble :)

    Penny, congratulations. I'm glad to hear you have a great bunch of people to run with. That must make it somewhat easier to do runs like this one. I liked the part where you mentioned the 2:15 bunny...I probably would have picked the 2:30 bunny. ;) Anyway, congrats again. You and Trish and all the rest of our teammates at Rookie Runners are such inspirations to me. Thanks for being here at SparkPeople for us.

My personal challenge day 5

Well here it is Friday already. On Monday, I made it my personal challenge to write a journal entry every day. Oops. It's hard to write when there's nothing new. Hm, I guess that's not completely true, is it?
Monday I made the drive home from Kelowna. We (Nora, her sister and I) stopped at the D Dutchmen Dairy and had ice cream. I visited with the calves for a little bit. They're super cute! and they give kisses!!
Tuesday, I made the decision to postpone my education until September when I will go full-time. I feel a little light-headed just thinking about it but I cannot learn w/o an actual teacher to listen to. I'm just not that kind of learner.
Wednesday, I met up with my running clinic and we celebrated our victories in Kelowna and Victoria. We dined at Amici's. I won't recommend the steak but I WILL recommend the Mango Berry Cheesecake. :o)
Thursday, I vegged. I've got a wicked cold in my sinuses. I HATE that. I can't see half the time because my eyes are always watering.
Today is Friday. We're allowed to wear jeans to work today. I love, love, love to wear jeans ... so much more comfortable than the dress clothes that I normally have to wear.
All in all, it's been a pretty weird week for nutrition because I've been eating too much or too little. I'm not sure I've been between my goals all week. I haven't exercised since I ran on Sunday and, for that, I'm feeling incredibly guilty. It's the cold I tell ya! I'm too tired. I'll do better this weekend, I promise.

    Look after yourself! You aren't doing as much as before because you are tired. Being tired is your bodies way of telling us to slow down and get better.
