BLC Summer Break Plan

Friday, July 13, 2012

Sadly, BLC19 ends this coming Tuesday. Happily, the Seasonal Accountability Challenge begins on the 25th so there won't be too many days when I'll be accountable to no one but myself. THAT could not end well.
To stay on track over the BLC Break, I intend to:
-post my goals on a monthly basis.
-post my progress on a weekly basis.
-hold myself accountable to my SAC team daily.
-work towards losing these last darn 3 pounds. (interesting fact: I took my emoticon to the vet today and he also has to lose 3 pounds)
-keep running
-keep ST
-start flexibility training (yoga, pilates, tai chi - SOMETHING!)
-CHECK IN WITH MY TEAM ONCE A DAY (or more)

Ok, you know you spend too much time on FB when you try to "tag" people in your blog post.... *sigh*

You've got some great goals during the break. I've had a rough week but plan on getting back on track next week with SAC.

I too am 3 lbs away from my BLC 19 goal. I trying like crazy to make it happen this week, but it will definitely be gone by the beginning of next round. Looks for some good power yoga - you get the flexibility and balance and work the muscles like crazy all at the same time.

July week one - progress

Sunday, July 08, 2012

to paraphrase Winnie the Pooh: "Mind over matter makes the bear unfatter" and that seems to be where I'm at right now. Letting my mind guide my body to do what it otherwise might not because I'm so sick of feeling "fluffy" that I just have to do something about it.
To recap, my goals are:
1 - to continue running 3 times a week
**This one's easy because I love my half marathon group and I hate it when I don't make it out for a run with them.
2 - to lose my last five pregnancy pounds
**This one is NOT so easy. I did, however, lose another pound as of Wednesday. That brings me down to four gone as of June 1. Four more to go.
3 - to blog my progress every Saturday
**Aside from being a day late... lalalalala
4 - to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water a day
**It's been kind of hot here. I've been going above and beyond on this one.
5 - to sleep 7 hours a night
**Hit or miss. I usually get 7 but not straight. I've had four or five nights so I'm not complaining.
6 - to add two- days of strength training to my week
**Boot camp on Tuesday & Thursday kicked my butt. I attribute the lose of pounds and inches to this class.
7 - to add one day of yoga/stretching to my week
emoticon oops. Maybe this coming week....

I've been running my Mother to blood tests and doc appointments so my mornings are kind of shot. I'm getting lots of cardio and *some* ST but no yoga yet. It'll be my thing to work on this week.
So, yes, this is kind of a weird photo to post and, yes, I was a little weirded out when my son's friend took it BUT it shows that my hard work's paying off. My arms look tighter and my waist is looking trimmer. I feel good about things.

A compliment...or two :)

Monday, June 25, 2012

This weekend, I ran the Starbucks Run for Women 10k on Saturday and then the HM clinic group run 9 km on Sunday. I felt pretty good while running both. The weather was perfect. No small feat on Saturday when, up until 30 minutes before the race, it was pouring. I'm not kidding, I was actually starting to wonder if it would be a smart run to do. It was raining that hard. Here's some of the girls and I with the firemen that were handing out the bling at the finish line.

And here's the link to the race course itself. I've been told the elevation doesn't look that bad but, trust me, the hills were real butt blasters. connect.garmin.com/activity/19196497

On Sunday, my HM clinic and I were scheduled to run 9kms (LSD). I was happily surprised to see so many from the day before out to run again. Literally, I was giddy with joy. During our run, I dealt with something that I'm REALLY not comfortable with.... twice. Two of my buddies gave me compliments on my weightloss. The second, however, was very specific. "Your ass is looking great". I just grinned and said thank you. (In case you're wondering why PEHASS2/Paul won't mind reading this, the compliment came from a woman) Personally, since I get to see it w/o its spandex/lycra covering, I don't see the big deal BUT it was still nice to hear that my hard work is paying off. I have, however, noticed less jiggle when I run. I like that.

For my next trick, I'd like to have defined arms and less tricep wiggle.

Wow... nice job running on Saturday. I'm ashamed to say that I opened my eye, looked out at the weather, and immediately went back to sleep (I did get a workout in later, but I totally wimped out on going outside).

It's always a nice boost to get a compliment. I think it's easy to focus on the less-than-perfect while not seeing the overall changes, so it's a good reminder when someone notices. Looking great!

19 ways to get motivated for fitness

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Not sure about anyone else but I'm seriously lacking in motivation lately. Thursday through Monday, when I know my fellow Amazons (BLC19) are counting on me, things pick up BUT the other days it's an internal struggle to get to the gym or out on the pathways for some exercise. Imagine my delight when my GoodLife email came today. Here are the main points of the article, I'm going to post the link at the bottom so you can check it out if you want. There's some good points.

If you’re just starting out, the following suggestions will help:

Set a goal – any project or plan without goal will be a struggle
Develop a plan to reach your goal – this is a must no matter what activity you enjoy
Start small – if you are just starting set realistic goals
Set interval goals and reward small short term accomplishments
Create rewards that are pleasurable and away from your exercise
Change routines and change often
Develop a competition with yourself or a partner and relate back to rewards
Chart progress so you can monitor and remember successes

If you are already exercising, try these tips to keep it up:

Remember good days
Remember the feeling of success and your pleasure rewards
Focus on the big picture
Withdraw during your routine
Stay grounded but dream big
Join a team or league if you are motivated by others and in a team or league sport
Know what your urges are to quit and be aware of them
Continue to mix things up
Visualize your success
If you get lost with mixing it up – get a coach
Forget but expect bad days – remember no matter how poorly you perform or how bad your workout is do not quit it is not an option……. just walk away and think about a past success

Most of all remember: if it was that easy everyone would do it!

Get up, get started and don’t give up!

If you’ve already started, find enjoyment and just keep pushing on!
