Am I CrAzY?!?!?!

Monday, August 15, 2011

Well, yes, I am most certainly sure the answer to that question is a big, fat, "Y.E.S!"

Yep, and this is my second blog for the day.... =)

So, DH & I spent the weekend in a mountainous area here in Germany just a few hours away from us. It is really gorgeous there, btw!! I am signed up to run a marathon there in October, a marathon which climbs to the top of the biggest mountain in that area!!! EEEEEEP! Needless to say, there is NO time goal for me on this one!! Finishing is ENOUGH for me!

While we were there, someone who saw me go running decided to tell DH about a marathon in the area...

...a very peculiar and unique marathon... (My FAVE!)

... a marathon that is run in an old mine shaft, 700 m underground!!!

Ok, I love running. I don't just run to reach some certain time, so I can reach some status symbol, and say, "OH, look at me, I can run a marathon/HM/10k in such-n-such time." No I run because I love it, and I love joining these races that are really unique.

So, of COURSE, now I am ITCHING like CrAzY to sign up!! This is the kind of race that really appeals to me! DH has given me the "ok", but we have to organize a few things first... one of those things being childcare, or at least help with the kids.

In the description, it says that it is recommended only "WELL-TRAINED" marathon runners sign up! Because under the earth, it is very warm (not too bad, right?), but also VERY dry! Because of this, and the extra pressure from being underground, it makes the run more difficult.

Out of curiosity, I then looked up the results of last year's race - the fastest man finished in 3:20, and the fastest woman finished in 4:04. Those times are not terribly fast at all in comparison with other races I've seen.

In other words, this marathon would be a REAL challenge!! I'm ALL OVER a good challenge!!

The other good thing is that it is 4 laps... I'm not psyched about running laps for a marathon, even though I did that with my first marathon. But in this race, if you want to bail after 2 laps (a Half Marathon) or 3 laps even (making it a 3/4 marathon), they still give you an official time for those distances!! This takes a little of the pressure off to finish, just in case I find it is much harder than I anticipated.....

Anyway, I am SERIOUSLY contemplating this one..... Haven't made up my mind yet though.... I will definitely keep my lovely Spark Friends posted.... emoticon

That sounds AMAZING! You know... you are one of those runners I can live vicariously through, because truthfully, if I didn't have a screwed up leg, I'd be having "CRAZY" thoughts probably bi-weekly-LOL! Why the heck not, right?

Do people actually go into this underground race with the intent of only running a half marathon? That could be a happy medium if it really is that challenging! Are you able to find the entire results from this same race in the past? That does sound really, really tricky if the top male and female are coming in at 3:20 and 4:04!!!!

Fellow Sparkers, UNITE!!!

Monday, August 15, 2011

My hubby just signed up for his first EVER 5K!!! He is not an athlete, and certainly not a runner at all, but he really wants to start being healthier!

PLEASE, PLEASE add him if you can, and cheer him on!! His screen name on here is Macmeister... =) Here is the link to his page: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=MA
CMEISTER

He has signed up for the 5K run at the marathon I will be doing in October. I am really excited for him, but I know for him, running does NOT come easily. He has tried to start before, and just didn't have the motivation to stick with it, but I think he is really getting serious now. This has all come without ANY prodding from me. He has decided this all on his own!!

Please help encourage him, and support him during this time!! Thank you all!

PPPPOOOOOO!!!

Saturday, August 06, 2011

I set out for 16 miles for a long run today, and bailed at 11 miles. First time I have EVER bailed due to just feeling absolutely crappy. I felt like I was going to barf the whole way (and NO I am not pregnant!)!! It was horrible. I took a week and a half off during my little vacation to the UK, but seriously?!?!?! Does my body have to move fully into lazy and unconditioned mode so quickly??? GRRRR! That run was a total bomb on my confidence!! I kept thinking it would get better/easier as I went, but it didn't.... booooo.

I will get around one of these days to posting blogs and photos about my epic vacation to Scotland and London. My friend and I had a blast. We laughed so much and so hard that our stomach muscles hurt after a few days. I have so many really funny stories to tell, and took over 800 photos!!

But those are for another time... if I can regain any sort of sanity to my life in the near future..... Things are a bit rough right now, and out of sorts.

Now for me to go wallow in self pity about my horrible run today.....

No need to be so hard on yourself. I know how completely frustrating it is though. 11miles is still a long distance. Keep your head up! Glad you had a good vacation and enjoyed yourself!

I know you`re a marathon mom and eating miles for breakfast but don`t bring yourself down for a bad run ... 11 miles is a lot of running!
Time off can lower your stamina. Crazy sometimes how far behing it throws you just a week ... I have often rough patches home & at work. My eating gets out of control, my motivation is dropping, I`m missing workouts and runs :( The week I return I sure feel it! Took off some unwanted 6-7 days and my first run after (just this Thursday) or a lousy shuffle/walk with a bad side stitch.
Our pride pushes us to go far. Maybe 16miles was an unrealistic goal for this day. Other factor can drag your performance, you know better ...
Pfew, I wish I could run tomorrow 11miles :)

    Girl,

Smile, you tried and learned something. Put it behind you and chill out 11 miles is a huge effort.

You are a rock star. It was a tough training day and correctable.

Now what did you learn? How will you change what you did.

1. Try to do something while on vacation.
2. Don't go nuts when you get back from vacation. Maybe a 5 mile run to check out your fitness and go from there.

Last! Thanks for being a rock star.

Today, I fly...

Sunday, July 24, 2011

.... TO LONDON!!!!

It is only a hop, skip, and a jump across the pond for me from Germany. The flight is only an hour and 10 minutes long or something. But this will only be my second time being in England!

I will be meeting my friend from Alaska at the Whole Foods Market on Kensington High Street this afternoon... emoticon

But unfortunately, any goals to lose some weight before my trip have absolutely gone south. Yes, that is right... no progress. No progress AT ALL. In fact, I have gained a couple of pounds.

I have kept up with my workouts, except for this week. (I slacked on 1 ST and Ab Ripper session with P90X this week, but got in a TON of cardio!) This next week while I am in England will be a recovery week with P90X, which works out well. I am taking running gear, but I don't plan to do any long runs, just 30-60 min or so.

But my eating, as always has been my biggest problem. And it's been WAY WORSE the last couple of weeks due to all of the new, exciting changes that are starting to take place with us!!! With the whole prospect of a new job here, I have been really nervous and excited and unsettled.... Which has been leading to BAD eating - lots of calories, sugar, and fatty foods. Each day, I say, "Ok, I will do better today..." and each day, I just bomb out!!!

This week, I will really shoot to make healthy choices, I will enjoy my trip with my friend, TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS, and when I get back, it will be high time to get serious. I keep saying that, but for reals.... time to get serious!!

Have a great week, Sparkers!!

Germany, My Home!!

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I guess I can call it that now that it seems we will be staying here indefinitely!! My hubby was offered the job yesterday!

I have lived in Germany for almost 5 years now, but always felt that things were a little uncertain, mainly because of the horrible job environment that my husband faced day in and day out (as mentioned in my other blog.)

But now....

All of the job uncertainty for the past 4.5 or 5 years, and wondering what we are gonna do in the future, if we will stay here, if we will go, if my husband will take the stupid family car business over, if we EVER should have come here in the first place.....

All of these questions seemed to be getting settled!!

My husband went in and worked at the new potential job place. The position? A project manager for a company that translates large documents or even websites into different languages. It is IT heavy, which is perfect for my hubby. He's a computer nerd.... emoticon DH really liked the work, and he felt it was something he is going to be really good at.

They were super pleased with his work, and feel he would be a GREAT addition to their team. Plus while offering the job, they even talked about a long-term FUTURE with the job!! This is just GREAT!

The pay is good, and promised to be even better within the year. NO WEEKENDS, and it's pretty much simply 9-6 job. DH is not even gonna know what it's like to not have to leave for work until 8:30 in the morning, and having EVERY Saturday FREE!! Plus he will get at least 28 days vacation a year!!

We are really thrilled, both of us. My husband is very nervous about putting in his resignation with his aunt and uncle. They are the type of people who are very vindictive and nasty when they don't get their way. They think they are such wonderful people to work for, but I have never seen such horrible management skills, and even worse, their treatment of employees (their horrible treatment of my husband included). It's disturbing that they have kept ANY employees over the years. Why would people tolerate that sort of a work place?? I have no idea. But as much as he wants out, he is still very nervous about facing them. We could be in for a real crap-storm!!!

But I know that one day soon, we will look back and all of that will be a distant memory. And we are both certain (through much prayer!) that this is the right move for us! We were so certain we would be heading back to the States, but sometimes God has other plans! And if my husband hadn't come to the point mentally where we were really ready to leave, this job opportunity may NEVER have presented itself to us, or he may not have seriously considered it.

It all started with someone asking us WHY we wanted to move back to the States..... Weird how these things work out, huh?? Just like my good friend Wendy said, it wasn't a coincident; it was a God-incident!!

By law, DH has to give a 30-day notice to his current employers, so he will be obligated to work until the end of August. It could be that they spitefully tell him, "Don't bother coming back!" or it could be that they simply use the last 4 weeks to just pour out their anger and nastiness on him.....

So, the next several weeks of transition may be quite rough for us!! I know it will pass, but it is a bit unnerving! Any prayers, happy vibes, wishes for serenity and peace, or WHATEVER in the next few weeks would be greatly appreciated!!

Happy Sparking, everyone!!!

Glad to hear that that is in fact going to work out for you. And now you've got good connections with your neighbors and new friends so you'll both be much happier.
