So I really committed to fitness/healthy lifestyle back in September when my boyfriend went back to the States for three months. I thought, 'Well working out (yoga mostly) will give me something to do and help me stay grounded in this crazy city.' Immediately I noticed a change, a change in how I felt on the inside a change in how I looked on the outside and a change in how I felt about myself. All for the positive. By the time the man was getting ready to come back I had lost about 15# and several inches off of waist, hips, upper arms and thighs. I was feeling super sexy and full of energy. Well, then to put it as I've seen so many times before on this website, Life Happened. He came back to Shanghai and my routine fell into disarray. We went out to eat often (since I hadn't been going out much because most Chinese restaurants are family style and not really suited towards solo dining), drank more booze (I had cut back quite a bit while he was gone), sat around cuddling on the couch and watched movies/tv/played wii, plus my birthday, christmas (and xmas parties), New Year's, and I let my fitness routines fall by the wayside. And quite often during that time I felt guilty for not taking better care of myself, taking matters into my own hands and getting up off my a**. Granted some of my fitness activities have had to been put on the shelf temporarily (its too freakin cold to ride my bike in Shanghai now!) I could have tried harder on my indoor activities. But either way with all that life happening around me and then being admittedly a bit depressed after the man headed back to the States again (with no concrete return date!) and now I've made some decisions of my own which hopefully will get my life back on track.
1) While it can be both fun and rewarding SOMETIMES, I am not a career children's English teacher, it's just not my cup of meat.
2) I need to get back into a professional kitchen ASAP!
-And I need/want to keep furthering my knowledge in some of the more artisan disciplines of my field ex: bread baking, cheese making, sustainable agriculture etc.
3) Working out and working towards fitness is a GOOD FEELING! And, its addictive, and I need to always keep that in mind. Taking care of yourself is a GOOD FEELING! It is much easier to convince yourself to work out or hit the yoga mat when that last high after your session is fresh in your mind. Saying 'yeah I remember how good that felt 3 months ago and maybe ill turn the tv off later and do some yoga' is a really diluted motivator. But being able to say 'Damn I felt so great yesterday after practice, lets see if I can do that again' is more apt to get you moving.
I'm not really sure what I hoped to accomplish with this blog post. I guess I'm just hoping that having it in writing and getting it out there will help keep me on the right path even though I know my life is about to go into upheaval again in probably under 2 months. Thanks for listening. Namaste.
