Foot trouble

Saturday, December 20, 2014

emoticon Since the end of August I have had pain in the heel of my left foot. I thought it was something I could get relief from by visiting my chiropractor and having an adjustment and acupuncture. Well, the pain was getting worse so I went to my family doctor on Friday. He sent me for an x-ray. He told me I have a bone spur in my heel. I now have an appointment in late January to see the orthopedic dr. I am hoping to get worked in earlier if there is a cancellation. The thing is, if I need surgery to remove it, I only have 10 days vacation/sick leave! I don't know how long I would need to stay off of my foot. Another teacher recently had a bone spur removed and some tendons repaired. She was off work for 6 weeks! For now, Ibuprofen and ice packs are getting me through the days and nights.

Ouch! I don't know if I'd rather have a bone spur or plantar fasciitis (which I have). At least with a bone spur its a temporary inconvenience that is easily corrected--as long as it doesn't come back. Plantar fasciitis comes and goes. It stays away more when I am diligent about wearing the orthotics and not the flipflops around the house.

Hope you get better soon! Maybe they can do a 'light duty' type thing?

I was so nervous about conferences today that I couldn't eat breakfast. I got ready and headed in to school. I decided to stop for my favorite cappuccino at the convenience store (a small one) so my stomach wouldn't rumble when I met with the first parents. Everything went fine so I finally ate my granola bar about 10 am. Lunch was chicken and some side dishes. I managed to find the smallest piece of cake for desert. I got home about 7 pm and made a can of soup for hubby and myself. Now I can relax for the weekend!

A new outlook this time. I have found a daily weigh-in team and that is keeping me honest. I am tracking my food. Today I didn't get my water jug filled so didn't drink as much water as I should have. The support is here. I just have to use it!

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.”
