new goggles and new suit

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Hi sparkpeople,

Bought new goggles and a new bathing suit this week! Used the goggles yesterday... oh my lord, worth every penny. Soooo nice to have eyesight in the pool! Only issue is that I think I wore them a little too tight and I have a bruised eyesocket. hah. Excited to try out the new suit tonight!

Swimming has been great, especially considering that my knee hurts hurts hurts still :( I just have to watch pushing off of the tlipturns - the impact and then sudden straightening of my leg makes it worse.

Anyhoo- working on tracking my food better, and preparing for long days of seeing clients back to back when I don't have time to really sit and eat.

and that's me!

Week One Done, Week Two New!

Monday, January 09, 2012

Hello there Sparkpeople world,

So it's January 9th, and as of yesterday I started week 2 of Game On with my family, and the SP january challenge.

Week 1 I was full of gung-ho, and was operating purely on that, I think. I played basketball with my husband, sister, and her boyfriend on day 2 and hurt my knee reallllly bad. That put a damper on things - I took the next day off of exercise to rest it, and then have been trying to find ways to exercise without hurting it worse. I did a water aerobics class once, and did a lot of workout videos online. I did a bunch of SP ones, of course, and then also found this youtube channel called Blogilates I think - a woman named Cassey Ho films herself doing the MOST INSANE PILATES WORKOUTS EVER, and she does it with a huge smile and being all perky the whole time.

Food wise I ate at Subway (veggie sandwhiches) a few times and other than that, have only eaten food from home. I've been doing a lot of onion/carrot/spinach/egg substitute in the morning, a lot of weight watchers string cheese, crackers, grapes, carrots and laughing cow for snacks, and drinking 12 glasses of water a day.

I lost weight this week, but not a lot - just about 1.5 pounds.

This week my plan is to keep doing what I've been doing AND - workout a little harder as my knee lets me (Monday/Wednesday nights doing water aerobics, SP videos daily, and lap swimming in between) and to track my food.

Things I can do to help myself with my goals: buy new goggles, eat more fruit and vegetables every day

Things I was proud of myself for doing this week: in addition to the habits I was trying to form, I managed to go out to eat at a BREWERY no less, with a bunch of friends, and I split a dry burger with someone, and had a side of carrots, and did not drink. I ate it slowly, and drank a lottttt of water.

Okie dokie - time to get going with my day!

if you haven't got one already, get a knee brace, it will let you do a little more than without one on, that's how I got back into walking/jogging after I injured my knee (I used it for a month, then I was good again without it)

new year!

Monday, January 02, 2012

my mom, dad, husband, two sisters and sister's boyfriend have all decided to play "Game On" for the next month. We've split into two teams (guys vs the ladies) and each person earns points based on their actions that day. You get points for healthy eating, drinking water, exercise, kicking one bad habit and introducing a good habit, to name a few. At the end of the month, the points are tallied, the winners are announced, and the prizes are received. Today was day one, and we are doin it! Tomorrow I do more, harder, sweatier exercise type things :)

so far so good

Today is day 12 of my ten-minutes-of-exercise-a-day streak. I am super-de-duperly pleased with myself. Every morning I wake up - excited to figure out which exercise I am going to do that day. There have been plenty of days where I could only fit in ten minutes - but on others have done an hour. I've been rewarding myself with happy faced stickers on my calendar, and it's so freaking awesome to have day after day of solid stickers!!!

Other little successes... I have been doing laundry everytime I have a load of dirty clothes, in order to make sure there are no mountains, I have been doing dishes every night, so no crazy mess, I have not had any caffeine for 12 days, I have been eating predominately vegetarian, I have been drinking all my water, and so far I have survived the first week of school!

I don't want to jinx myself - the ONLY one of those goals I am actively trying to meet is 10 minutes of exercise a day. The other successes just seem to build up when I do one thing right.

so - yeehaw! Here's to keep on keepin' on!

one good choice leads to others (shamelessly stealing from that ad!). the 10 minutes exercise does become hugely motivating-its pretty easy, you feel the success and want more. good for you and keep it up girl!!

You know what I find weird? Where I get my inspiration from. I went to see the Glee 3D movie with my aunt and her friend tonight - and I left the movie theater at 10pm and went to the gym. Something about watching those pretty people singing pretty songs and dancing pretty dances made me remember all over again why I am doing this whole change-my-lifestyle thing.

Secret confession? I want to be a hiphop dancer. If you knew me, you'd laugh when you read that. but you know what? I've been re-reading The Spark book, and it talks about stepping out of the invisible tethers that we have placed around our ankles, and give ourselves the permission to be whatever we want to be.

I want to be a dancer! I want to be a triathlon athlete! I want to be a runner! I want to write a book! I want to have children and homeschool them! I want to own an art camp!

It's pretty crazy, but I really do believe that by exercising for ten minutes every day for the next two weeks is the first step to my getting all of those things. So here I go. Day two, complete.

Heck yeah!! That is a great attitude. :)
I need to work out too but I have been dragging my feet. I promised at least 10 minutes of body movement a day... so.. that seems managable right?!

:) You can do it. I cant wait to see you in your pretty dress doing a pretty hip hop dance. :)
