Stressed out day...all coming to a head!!

Monday, September 12, 2011

I have known all summer that my husband was going to be getting his prostate removed due to cancer this Wednesday...I put it on the back burner in my mind as I am sure he did as much as he could, too. Today I had the "Feel sorry for poor me" moment. I didn't run and was gloomy all day, even though it was our 24th wedding anniversary. The truth is that it is very scary. But I also know I have to take care of myself and running will help me clear my head and get through it. I guess I needed one day to feel sorry for myself!

On a good note, even though I was stressed out I did really good with my calories today. (I can't eat a lot when I am stressed.) We went out to our favorite Italian restaurant and had pasta with VERY spicey marinara and crabmeat, and a nice side salad. YUM!

Happy Anniversary emoticon and emoticon to you! I think it makes perfect sense that you'd eventually have to have that "woe is me" moment, or maybe even more than one.

I pray that your husband's surgery and recovery go well, and that you are able to handle the stress of it all in a healthy way.

Sometimes you just need that "Woe is me" moment. The important thing is you kept moving. Know that your Sparks friends are sending good wishes your way and we pray that everything goes smoothly on Wednesday. Happy Anniversary!

Great week at the Outerbanks...

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Had a great trip with my hubby to the Outerbanks. Stayed for 5 days; mainly went down for a wedding. We ran to mornings together -- it was really nice. We did a lot of sight seeing - Wright Brothers monument, climbed a beautiful lighthouse, shopped til we dropped and drove down to Nags Head. Most of my food choices were healthy ones. Saturday was the wedding day, we danced for hours at the reception. Only downfall was the mosquitoes -- TONS AND TONS of them! I will be scratching for weeks to come.

We listened to lots of songs and reflections about 9/11 on the way home today.
God Bless America!

Going to a wedding 9/10/11

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Headed down to the Outerbanks to attend a wedding. The poor bride and groom had to change the location after Hurricane Irene last week. Luckily they found something in the Northern part, all the guests booked new places to stay, and all is set.

I am looking forward to running down there. The hotel also has a fitness center, three pools and a lazy river!! My 24th wedding anniversary is Monday so we are celebrating down there. My husband gets his surgery next Wednesday (to remove cancer) so this is our last big trip for a while.

Awesome Day!

Sunday, September 04, 2011

Today was awesome! Kayaked with my hubby and dog for 1.5 hours this morning after walking the dog 1 mile. Then we (my husband, Rox and one of my sons), hung on the boat most of the day. I actually took a nap on it -- I am not a napper. Went to dinner at the marina & ate 1/2 the chicken cacciatori (sp?) that was served. It was very spicy -- Yum! Went great with a glass of chianti. Now I am getting ready to go sit on the deck and look at the half moon shining brightly over the Chesapeake Bay. I am a lucky chick!!

I am truly lucky...

Thursday, September 01, 2011

Tonight I am reflecting on how lucky I am to have a best friend (I have known for 34 years - yikes!) to confide in and who likes to run, a great husband who is supportive, access to a great website which has allowed me to get and offer support to people struggling with the same issues that I am in a non-judgemental way, my two boys who have become terrific, young adults, and on top of all of that, I am surrounded by terrific friends in my everyday life. Oh, and certainly my little boston terrier, Roxy who shows me nothing but love and joy every day!

I also love reading my friend feed. Everyone is SOOO supportive and nice to eachother -- even strangers that we may comment or blog once with. We all live on all the corners of the earth, but while on SparkPeople it is like we are living next door to eachother. It is truly amazing. And I am so lucky to be part of it.

    I feel that way too!

I am very proud of my daughter's accomplishments. When she was 9 months old, I was told she had a brain smaller than other children her age and her prognosis was terrible. The doctors didn't know if she would be able to learn to count or learn the alphabet. They said she might not make it past 6th grade or have troulble learning and not be able to.

She was promoted from kindergarten into first grade before the school year was half over. In sixth grade she was in talented and gifted. She graduated high school and got her BA and has continued on to getting her Masters. It is my personal belief, that God intervened and gave us a miracle.
