Today was better...

Monday, September 19, 2011

My husband is doing a lot better today. I went to work after a 5k run, and he started his "honey do list". He had to call different contractors (we had our house built two years ago) and schedule them to come out and fix things. He is also getting pricing on a new bulkhead and pier to be built next Spring. His list should keep him busy for a while. I know that working on his list boosted his spirits a lot today. Tomorrow I take him back to Univ of Penn to visit the Dr. After that, he told his friends they can come visit. My husband is quite social, so I know this will help him too.

I met a girlfriend for lunch today and it was so nice to talk about other things outside of my husband's health. She just had foot surgery a couple weeks ago (she used to be a ballet dancer). She is already walking around (with a plastic cast). She said the first week is pretty hard, then all is okay. I am getting myself mentally ready for my foot surgery in November. I picked up my orthotics and totally love them! Ran with them today, and my heel isn't as bad as it was. Definitely worth the $400 bucks.

Hope you all have a great week!

Great news about your husband! Your life is seaming itself back together. It must be nice to run without those big worrys. I am not at the running stage but I am looking forward to when I am able to run a 5k! My friends just finished their 1st 5k and are already signing up for more. So I will have lots of buddies to run with.

Happy Be-lated birthday for Roxie!

I know all about foot surgery. One of my children was born with severe club feet. He has been through many many castings and has had three operations. The first one was at 3 months old. He LOVES to run! He is so inspiring. emoticon

I used to run when I was a teenager, and no matter what else was going on, I felt free from my problems when I ran. I sometimes thought how deer though in a fenced area, can just jump over the obstacle and escape the confined area. I think running did that for me mentally.

Finally got to run!

Sunday, September 18, 2011

This morning I noticed my husband was doing more on his own, so after our walk with Roxy -- who is celebrating her fourth birthday today -- I did not feel guilty taking my 40 minute run around the development. I really needed to do it, I had been sitting at home/hospital for 4 days. We have been walking a lot but it just wasn't the same.

Now I am off to Costco and gonna run by work to catch up on what I missed last week while no one is there - always faster and easier that way!

It's so nice to be getting some sort of order back in my life!

Happy Birthday to Roxy! And congrats on your run! Glad your hubby is feeling better (or at least getting around more) and that you can get back to work (don't worry, the work will still be there tomorrow, and the day after, etc.) ... you have a good reason to miss work! Monday, back to the grind! Have a good day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Back home...

Friday, September 16, 2011

We got back from the hospital last night. Hard to believe my husband could go home 24 hours after surgery - but he did. The 1 hour drive home from Philly was awful. The doctor said his prostatectomy was "flawless". We should know by tuesday if the cancer was contained. It should be, he caught it very early.

I got a 5k run in before we went to the hospital Wednesday, didn't get one in yesterday at the hospital. Hoping to get one in tonight when my kids get home - I want to make sure someone is here to keep an eye on my husband.

It's very hard to see him in so much pain. We have been walking a lot, to help alleviate it. The weather is a perfect 70 degrees, so we are hanging outside a lot today. The Chesapeake Bay is very therapeutic.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and support!

Hi R'z. Mom, Happy Belated Anniversary! Glad your hubby's surgery went well... tell him, drugs are good--he shouldn't have to suffer or be in pain! Glad to hear you enjoying the beautiful weather.... Thank God for your blessings! Thanks for visiting my blog--didn't dance at the club, just ate, drank and listened to the music! Going swimming later this evening. G'nite! emoticon emoticon

I hope you do get to run tonight. It will be good for you to get away for a little bit, maybe process all that you've just been through - if you're one who can actually think while you run.

I'm thankful to hear that your husband made it through the surgery well. I hope his pain diminishes quickly and that they did, in fact, manage to get all of the cancer!

Stressed out day...all coming to a head!!

Monday, September 12, 2011

I have known all summer that my husband was going to be getting his prostate removed due to cancer this Wednesday...I put it on the back burner in my mind as I am sure he did as much as he could, too. Today I had the "Feel sorry for poor me" moment. I didn't run and was gloomy all day, even though it was our 24th wedding anniversary. The truth is that it is very scary. But I also know I have to take care of myself and running will help me clear my head and get through it. I guess I needed one day to feel sorry for myself!

On a good note, even though I was stressed out I did really good with my calories today. (I can't eat a lot when I am stressed.) We went out to our favorite Italian restaurant and had pasta with VERY spicey marinara and crabmeat, and a nice side salad. YUM!

Happy Anniversary emoticon and emoticon to you! I think it makes perfect sense that you'd eventually have to have that "woe is me" moment, or maybe even more than one.

I pray that your husband's surgery and recovery go well, and that you are able to handle the stress of it all in a healthy way.

Sometimes you just need that "Woe is me" moment. The important thing is you kept moving. Know that your Sparks friends are sending good wishes your way and we pray that everything goes smoothly on Wednesday. Happy Anniversary!

Great week at the Outerbanks...

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Had a great trip with my hubby to the Outerbanks. Stayed for 5 days; mainly went down for a wedding. We ran to mornings together -- it was really nice. We did a lot of sight seeing - Wright Brothers monument, climbed a beautiful lighthouse, shopped til we dropped and drove down to Nags Head. Most of my food choices were healthy ones. Saturday was the wedding day, we danced for hours at the reception. Only downfall was the mosquitoes -- TONS AND TONS of them! I will be scratching for weeks to come.

We listened to lots of songs and reflections about 9/11 on the way home today.
God Bless America!
