I cannot explain how good it felt to run a 5k this morning. My feet are feeling great tonight and I just finished surfing the web for 5k races for the next 3 weeks. Knowing that I have them set up keeps me motivated, but more importantly appreciating that I can run again with no pain is simply AWESOME!
My husband started running again too! I am so excited. As I mentioned before, he has been diagnosed with cancer and will have surgery in one month. The doctor told him one month ago to make sure he is doing 30 mins of cardio per day. He is not overweight, but cardio will help him recover faster. I didn't nag him about it too much...but since I am doing it I did bring it up a couple times. If I was not, I would have felt I didn't have a right too.
So now he is going to run 5k races with me! I need to be motivated to lose some weight (2 sizes), he needs it so he can recover from his surgery faster. We are on our way...yayyy!

Well, my feet are holding out! I have been running at 30/35 minutes per day at a regular pace (about 2.6 miles prox). Tomorrow I am going to go up to a 5k. I am really itching to run a race, so I have solicited 4 people to join me on Saturday. It will probably not be my best time of the season, but will keep me motivated to continue running.
I did get a mold taken of my feet yesteday for orthotics. I am really excited that they will help with me running farther distances. I really want to build up to a 10 mile race then half marathon. I added the Disney 1/2 marathons to my facebook and it is getting me excited! That would be such an awesome accomplished goal next Spring!
My food intake is also going pretty well. I am eating healthy during the day, only problem is hanging out with friends every night - still consuming too much alcohol! With all of our kids grown up and gone, seems to be the norm - Yikes!

So, today I went back to my Foot Doctor. He thinks my bunion may be the cause of all of my foot problems. He also suggested that I think about othotics. He told me that many runners wear them, and 9 out of 10 love them. I am really tire of my feet hurting, so I am going to get measured for orthotics next week and am going to get my bunion taken care of in mid-November. The latter should be a lot of fun -- I can't walk for a week and then only minimum steps the next week. I am pretty hyper so this is not going to be easy. But, I will be happy when it is all over with! He said it will be 10 - 12 weeks before I am totally recovered and can run again. That's why I am waiting until winter.
Getting old isn't easy, that's for sure!!

I took another Friday off work....Yayyy! Got up and immediately ran 30 mins on the treadmill. I then went to look at a couple houses with my son. He graduated from college last year and was fortunate enough to get a good job. In fact, he just accepted a job offer at another company making almost twice as much as the last one! ... so it is time for him to move out. There is great real estate deals out there right now so he is going to take advantage of it.
Anyway, we are going to go to lunch next. Not sure if I am boating today or tomorrow because of the heat. Also, I found what looks to be a tasty drink recipe from Prevention Magazine. I am going to try this weekend. I have already shared it with my friend Riverderchi, but thought others may want to try it as well. Have a great weekend!
Here it is:
"Mango Mint Virgin Mojitos"
40 mint leaves, thinly sliced
5 c mango nectar
5 c club soda
Cut lime in 12 thin slices and then squeeze remaining limes to get 6 tablespoons juice
Combine juice, mint, nectar and soda
Pour into 8 tall glasses filled with ice. Garnish each with lime slices.

Got a lot done at work after jogging 30 mins this morning. Roxy was tired after two long walks yesterday, tried to get her walking this morning but she bee-lined back to the house!! I guess dogs know when to take a break better than us humans do.
Went out to dinner with friends -- I do that quite often, now that all of our kids are grown and out of the house. I have gotten quite good at not eating the appetizers everyone else orders. I order healthy dinners - tonight was ahi tuna - Yum!
My down fall when I go out to dinner is alcoholic beverages. I order light beer or red wine, I have learned not to order margaritas due to the high caloric content! It still would be good to order a less calorie drink/healthy drink; problem is I haven't found any I like. If anyone has an idea, let me know! I do drink a lot of water too -- in between drinks.
