40 Days Until The Disneyland Half Marathon...

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Yikes! Only forty days left! Sort of scary when I thought about it after one of my Sparkbuds pointed it out - thanks Karen!!

So, today I ended up working from 7 AM through 10:30 PM. That left no time to run at home, so I went to "plan B" and signed up at a gym down the street from work and used their treadmill and shower during my one hour lunch break! I got 3.5 miles in. I have to say my treadmill at home has spoiled me on the days I have to run inside. The ifit module makes running on a treadmill such a different experience. I was so bored on the gym treadmill. I had my music going but there was nothing interesting to look at. They have tvs in front of the treadmills but I couldn't focus. 3.5 miles seemed to take forever! But, I did get my run in!

I took another 45 minute break later in the day and got my weekly adjustment from my chiropractor...I am determined not to get injured! I want to do hot yoga a couple times per week to stretch out, but not sure where that is going to fit in! I have two more weeks of very long work days - I might have to wait until the long work days are over.

Quote of the day:
I always loved running... it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power.  You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.  ~Jesse Owens

I don't think you have any reason to be scared for Disney. You are an excellent runner who has put in a lot of training time. You'll be fine, and hopefully have a ton of fun! Awesome job getting a run in during such a long work day, too!

41 Days Until the Disneyland Half Marathon...

Monday, July 23, 2012

Today I ran 2.5 miles before going to work. (I ran my long 7.5 mile run yesterday). The weather was pretty good and I was glad to get it in before work. I am trying to get up early (6 ish) to get at least a half hour run in.

Work has been real busy and I am trying to stay focused. I play my running songs in my office to keep my "in the zone". I hear them a lot on the radio in my car too, which helps! I always visualize myself running when I hear my running songs on the radio - hey! whatever works!

Won't Back Down Lyrics
Songwriters: PETTY, TOM / LYNNE, JEFF

Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You could stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down

Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down

Chorus
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down

Well I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down

Hey baby there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down

Isn't it funny how once you run to a song, and especially if you run to it more than once, you want to run every time you hear it? I love that feeling!

42 Days Until The Disneyland Half Marathon - My Running Music...

Sunday, July 22, 2012

This morning I ran 7.5 miles. I ran at a slower pace the first 1/2 mile then picked it up a little bit. It was 66 degrees. Perfect weather - I didn't need water the whole time I was out!

Today I decided to share my Running Music List. It has taken me one year to perfect it! I shuffle these on my iPhone - they always inspire me to keep going!

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Dancing With Myself - Billy Idol
The Edge of Glory (running workout hits 2011)
Hollywood Nights - Bob Seger
Poker Face - Lady GaGa
Runaway - Bon Jovi
Moves Like a Jagger - Maroon 5 and Christina Aquilara
I Gotta Feeling - The Black Eyed Peas
Stronger - Kelly Clarkson
Born This Way - Lady GaGa
Believe - Cher
Drive By - Train
Country Girl (Shake It for Me) - Luke Bryan
I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty
Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams

I also have a separate 5k Music List that I use when I run races. They are the fastest songs from above.

So, how did I arrive at this list? Using my Runkeeper app, I noted the songs I ran faster with. If my average time per mile was not at least a certain time during a song - it was OUT!

Quote of the Day:
Music cleanses the understanding;
inspires it, and lifts it into a realm
which it would not reach if it were left to itself.
~ Henry Ward Beecher (1813 - 1887)

Hi there, are you running in the Food and Wine 1/2 in Nov? My sister in law is making that her 4th 1/2 this year to celebrate her 40th. I can't run too well, so I am doing the 5K in the morning through Animal Kingdom.

One other question, with the songs you have above, do you know what you average per mile in time? I was going to try to put together a song list for the same reason and I like your choices above!
thanks,
Mary Ann

Music definitely helps. I don't use it outside, as I like the sounds of nature/life around me, but I'm sure it would help to use it more on the treadmill. I'm glad you've got a list that works so well for you!

What a cool idea. I know there are definitely songs that just make me want to move too.

Love it!! What a cool approach to determining the list -- gotta try that! I don't generally use tunes on a run though until fall/winter, when I find myself on the treadmill more than I'm outdoors.

So excited for you on this Disney countdown!! emoticon

43 Days Until the Disneyland Half Marathon...

Saturday, July 21, 2012

Today was the first day I ran in 5 days! I got very busy at work which ended up being a good thing. My knee is now totally pain free! Today's 4 mile run went very well. The weather was 66 degrees and not that humid. I love runs like that! 4 miles has become my new "short run". Now I have to get a long run (7 miles) in tomorrow.

I also have to figure out a new running time. I currently have to work 10 hour days and it is pretty hot (90s and humid) at lunch break. I am pretty wiped out by the time I get home; so I either have to start getting up earlier (which would be great if I can get up) - or join a gym close to work and use their treadmill at lunchbreak (I live to far from work).

I am glad I signed up for this race - I gotta figure it out and do it!!

Great news on your knee! That's an excellent quote for your current situation. I know one thing for sure, though -- you've got will and you'll find a way to make it work!

49 Days Until The Disneyland Half Marathon...

Saturday, July 14, 2012

I ran 4.02 miles again this morning. My knee bothered me the first quarter mile so I walked a little bit up the first hill, but not as much as yesterday. Around mile 2, my knee started bothering me again for about 2 mins then stopped. My other knee bothered me a little bit about one mile later. I stretched my hamstrings a lot when I finished. I felt the "pull" I feel when I run in the back of my knee when I stretched them. I think hot yoga will help a lot. I am going to go back to yoga after the Chinese Exchange students leave.
The yoga place sent me a twenty percent off coupon!
I am excited to run tomorrow. I added a country song, Luke Bryan's "country girl (shake it for me)", to my running list. Should be a good one!

I think the hot yoga will help, I heard yoga is amazing for stretching out the muscles and really helping everything heal faster. As long as you listen to your body you will kick A**!!
