30 Days Until The Disneyland Half Marathon...

Thursday, August 02, 2012

30 days left! It's coming up so quick!! Yes, it's a little scary but exciting to think about. I have been training consistently and going to the chiropractor every week for adjustments so I know I am preparing well. That's giving me the confidence I need not to doubt myself.

Today is my day of rest!

Yesterday I ran 9 miles for my long run. I was do thankful to have my music - I ran several roads four times!! Long runs definitely seem to go faster when I am running with someone else! I am going to figure out a new place to run ten miles next week!

I did run the 9 miles in 1 hour, 28 mins so I am on target for my goal of 2 hours, 10 mins for the half marathon.

Now I am going to tighten up my diet. I have to minimize my alcohol (red wine and beer) and junk food intake. I want to feel the best I can in race day. I will share this with my friends since this goal seems to be the hardest to achieve when we all go out! They will support me!

Quote of the day:
Friendship is like vitamins; we supplement each otherís minimum daily requirements.

Love the quote! Can't wait to share it! You're doing a great prep job. I'm proud of you! I'm getting ready to do a workout. My leg is asleep; heavy 10 mo old kitten has been sleeping on it. Since January, I've lost one cat, gotten two. I love my current kitty family! How's your cute little Roxy doing? Is she training, too?

35 Days Until the Disneyland Half Marathon...

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Today I planned on getting up early to run 8.5 miles...I ended up not getting up so early.

So, I went out at 8:53. It was really humid, so I ended up running 2.5 miles. I came in, stretched, cooled off, and ate my breakfast. As I checked my facebook account, I noticed a post from a friend who had run 10 miles on her treadmill this morning while watching the olympics. Inspired, I decided to run a couple more miles on my treadmill and get up early tomorrow to run 8.5.

I hopped on my treadmill and watched the men's bike race as I ran another 2.7 miles. As I ran I thought about how I use to use my treadmill all the time and that I should be incorporating it more in my trainings. It definitely was a lot cooler - I have a/c, a ceiling fan and a floor fan aimed right at my treadmill! My treadmill has cushioney shock absorbers under the belt, making it a nice, smooth run. It is also convenient to have water and a towel at my disposal whenever I need it. I also found that watching the olympic competition kept my eyeballs away from the time and distance trackers on the dashboard - it didn't seem to drag.

In the end, I got 5 miles in this morning. I am glad that I decided to keep going.
Now I am off to the running store to buy a new pair of running shoes - yayyy!

Isn't it fun when something inspires you to do a little bit extra like that? Running while watching the Olympics definitely sounds like it would be motivating. Much better than eating ice cream while watching the Olympics!
I hope you got a great pair of shoes!

39 Days Until The Disneyland Half Marathon...

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

The countdown is in the 30's now - holy crap! I am getting close.

I got 5 1/2 hours sleep last night. I couldn't stand the thought of running on a treadmill at lunch again, so I made myself get up and run the development at 6 AM before having to get into work.

I was a slowpoke the first mile and a half! Couldn't seem to get going. My music finally woke me up and I was on my way. I ran 4 miles. The weather was perfect for running and no one was out. I love mornings like that!

I ended getting out of work early (4 PM) so now I am just chilling on my couch with Roxy. I can't wait for the weekend!

You will do fine. Your adrenaline will kick in once you are there and you will do fine.

We put a new liner and bottom in the pool, then between the pool motor and skimmer, a leak developed. Water was running out like a faucet and draining the pool.

The spa place just called at 8 AM, it was $62.10 to fix everything on the motor. He said it needed a new impeller (whatever that is, lol!)

Good for you! I am starting a "Couch to 5K" program today. I've always wanted to be a runner but I let my laziness get the best of me (and of course the heat of an Arizona summer always manages to talk me out of it). Hopefully by the wintertime I will be done with this program and ready to hit the pavement too! emoticon

40 Days Until The Disneyland Half Marathon...

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Yikes! Only forty days left! Sort of scary when I thought about it after one of my Sparkbuds pointed it out - thanks Karen!!

So, today I ended up working from 7 AM through 10:30 PM. That left no time to run at home, so I went to "plan B" and signed up at a gym down the street from work and used their treadmill and shower during my one hour lunch break! I got 3.5 miles in. I have to say my treadmill at home has spoiled me on the days I have to run inside. The ifit module makes running on a treadmill such a different experience. I was so bored on the gym treadmill. I had my music going but there was nothing interesting to look at. They have tvs in front of the treadmills but I couldn't focus. 3.5 miles seemed to take forever! But, I did get my run in!

I took another 45 minute break later in the day and got my weekly adjustment from my chiropractor...I am determined not to get injured! I want to do hot yoga a couple times per week to stretch out, but not sure where that is going to fit in! I have two more weeks of very long work days - I might have to wait until the long work days are over.

Quote of the day:
I always loved running... it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power.† You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.† ~Jesse Owens

I don't think you have any reason to be scared for Disney. You are an excellent runner who has put in a lot of training time. You'll be fine, and hopefully have a ton of fun! Awesome job getting a run in during such a long work day, too!

41 Days Until the Disneyland Half Marathon...

Monday, July 23, 2012

Today I ran 2.5 miles before going to work. (I ran my long 7.5 mile run yesterday). The weather was pretty good and I was glad to get it in before work. I am trying to get up early (6 ish) to get at least a half hour run in.

Work has been real busy and I am trying to stay focused. I play my running songs in my office to keep my "in the zone". I hear them a lot on the radio in my car too, which helps! I always visualize myself running when I hear my running songs on the radio - hey! whatever works!

Won't Back Down Lyrics
Songwriters: PETTY, TOM / LYNNE, JEFF

Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You could stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down

Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down

Chorus
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down

Well I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down

Hey baby there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down

Isn't it funny how once you run to a song, and especially if you run to it more than once, you want to run every time you hear it? I love that feeling!
