I Signed Up For The January, 2013 Disney World 1/2 Marathon, How About You??...

I signed up for the Disney World 1/2 Marathon, to be held January, 2013.

I kept looking at the email over and over before I pressed "send". The Disney marathons fill up quickly. This is the 20th anniversary run. I am signed up for the Disneyland 1/2 which is being held September, 2011. It will be my first. I decided the Disney World 1/2 would give me another goal so I would keep running after the first one and not gain weight back. I have found that these goals really keep me on track. So, essentially, I made myself press "send" to keep myself in line!!

Jeff Galloway is supposed to be at this particular marathon. I have been reading his 1/2 marathon training book and am a member of the Jeff Galloway SparkPeople team. My mother has run several Disney World marathons and says that they are the best...This should be interesting.

So, here's my question to all the SparkRunners out there...who wants to join me?? Wouldn't it be fun to have a whole group of us there? I already have one SparkBuddy considering it (Karen_NY). I hope more SparkBuddies can go!!

Run for the House 5k

This morning I ran my second 5k of the season. I consider these part of my training for the 10k I am running in 4 weeks. I decided to walk while I was at the water station. It was planted a lot farther than usual and it was quite a hot run. I slowed to walk and suddenly had a huge urge to pee!! Luckily the restroom was near by. I was running my best time ever before that!! I ended up with a time of 28.21. I am not walking anymore!!

    What bad luck needing to pee right then. I always make a lot of trips to the bathroom before the race begins. Get a lot of grief for it, but I figure ever little bit out of my bladder before I start running the better.

28:21 is an awesome time with a bathroom break.

    Hi R. M.! Glad you stayed hydrated! It's very interesting how the body works its magic.... that's still a great time! Our bandshell is on the broadwalk and it's a small outdoor concert venue for a few hundred people and they have free concerts 5 days a week. What a week it has been...

I survived my fourth week training two new managers. The changes are all positive, just takes a lot of my time and energy to make sure they all happen smoothly. I had a couple customer meetings too. I think (and hope) they are feeling a more open line of communication which is always a good thing.

I have also had my nose in books and on the computer for my class at school. I will be done May 9 - Yayyyy! I am now working on my rough draft for my final paper, then will work on my power point for class. I love power point because it is so "artsy" - but it ends up being very time consuming. When my class is done, I plan on going back to my Wednesday night SparkLive meetings with Lauren. I really miss those, they help to keep me focused.

I did take today off work; I needed a break. I slept in then took a nice, leisurely 4 1/2 mile run around the development. I have been reading Jeff Galloway's training book and running magazine articles. They all suggest that nice slow runs are a great tool when training for races. Tomorrow I am running my second 5K of the season, so that will be my speed run for the week.

The Delaware Marathon is on Mother's day. I am on a relay team and will be running a 10K. It will be my first one. My goal is to run it in under 55 minutes. I think my training has been on target. The weather has been so nice that I have only had to use my treadmill once.

Well, I am going to go back to working on my paper. I hope you have a relaxing weekend!

    Such exciting things you have ahead! May 9 will be here before you know it and you'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief. The training group that I start next month will be using the Galloway method, too. I'm interested to see what I'll be able to do by the end of the summer. I'd love to be able to post some times like yours... and to call a 4 1/2 mile run "leisurely". Wow!!

    You have been busy in many areas of your life. I am one that believes it helps to be that way, there is a self-satisfaction that comes from it, as well as gain.

I always ran with a feel for finding the smoothest path and ways to cut time which I would use when I had to run for speed. When you go to your half-marathon, if you can walk the course, do so. My daughter ran cross-country, I never did because my high school didn't have track. There may be places where you can run with speed and then jump down, which will cut your time, but you have to be sure you can stick your landing with no injuries.

The daily running will increase your lung capacity. In some countries the runners train on steep hills to increase their ability to breathe under stress to the body.

I think considering you just came off of a foot surgery, you are doing exceptionally well!

Keeping the Weight Off...

I am doing a great job keeping the weight off. I weighed myself today and am holding strong at 125. Sometimes I float up or down a couple of pounds then end up back 1 pound under my goal weight.

I am still tracking my food. I did pretty good keeping up with tracking during my three vacations. I am very honest about what I am eating and drinking. I generally eat between 1200 and 1500 cals. Sometimes I go over 1500 cals, but it seems to even back out through the whole week.

I run 4 to 5 times per week.

Running and tracking all of my food are definitely the two main things keeping my weight down.

    Fabulous - you are so well disciplined and look at the terrific results you earn!! (I can only imagine a day when I'd be content on 1200 calories... actually, no... i can't imagine that, lol!)

    Hi R.Mom! You are amazing! In between work, school and home, you find the time to take care of yourself too... busy but balanced! I like the idea of you trying to kill two birds with one stone re: school... will you be more qualified for your line of work or get a raise??? Or are you just trying to satisfy the requirements? It sounds interesting, but you're right.. you are sacrificing your personal time, but it will be worth it in the end! No one can take your education from you! emoticon emoticon

Nice Long Weekend...

I am so happy to have three days off in a row. My life has been a whirlwind since I returned from vacation. I am getting my new managers and staff organized and adjusted to new changes. They are positive changes but changes none the less. I was exhausted yesterday. My school work has picked up a lot. I have been staying on top of it, but am ready for the end! School really cuts into my social time! My kids are full grown and I am ready to take a break!

Anyway, this morning I caught up on some things on the internet, took inventory of the food in my pantry and refridgerator and made out the grocery list. I like to keep my to-go-foods in stock so I don't eat something I will regret later.

I set up my running teams web page for the Ronald McDonald house 5k run/walk. Our team is called the "Plum Point River Rats". We came up with this name because we hang out in and around the Chesapeake Bay all summer.

I made it from printshop software. The guys think it's funny because the rat's hand is in his overalls. I did not realize it looked that way until they pointed it out, but we decided to keep the rat anyway.

I jotted down in my calendar a few more 5k's I want to do. I am going to try to find a "test" 10k to do before the Delaware Marathon.

This afternoon it is supposed to get to 57 so I am going to do a long run (6 to 7 miles) around the development. I put my running clothes on when I got up so I would follow through with it.

Tonight I am going to talk my husband into going out to dinner where my son works. They steam a really good lobster tail there at a really good price.
