Running, Funeral, and Nice Spring Temperatures!...

Monday, March 12, 2012

I am in the middle of writing a paper, needed a break so here I am.

I ran 3 miles during my lunch break today. Saturday, I decided to do an IFIT Jillian Michaels 10k training on my treadmill. I started on level 3 which I realized after 5 minutes was a big mistake. I stopped it, went back on line and went to level 2.10 It was a nice challenge but I could do it. I am not going to get an injury! So, today when I went running my legs still felt stiff from Saturday! I can see why the say to only push your speed way up once a week!

My employee's husband's viewing is tomorrow night and the funeral/burial/memorial luncheon is Wednesday. My husband and I are going to Wednesday's events. Her husband's life insurance is covering the funeral, and since he was a veteran his burial is covered. We are paying for the luncheon.

Now we are working on her health insurance. She was on her husband's. Evidently, the insurance ends at midnight when the insured person dies. So, the poor girl is dealing with all this at the same time! She has to compare the cobra package to mine and make a decision by Friday. My insurance broker said he would help her. I know it's the last thing she feels like thinking about.

I don't know when she is coming back. I don't know that she will be able to teach three year olds at first. We may have her work in the front office. We are going to follow her lead.

Anyway, there is a lot going on but I am getting through it. Next Thursday my husband and I are going to Key West with friends. I can't wait to relax! Then the week after that is Spring break so I get a week off from school, though I will have homework! I am staying on my calorie target through all of this, too which is a good thing!

The weather is going to be in the 70's tomorrow through Thursday, so I will be outside running every day except Wednesday. It is so de-stressing to run, I love it!

Hope you had a terrific Monday!!

You do seem like a very compassionate person. Congrats on the running and enjoy your trip to Key West. My husband and I love Key West and I especially like Bahia Honda Key too.

You are doing well with your exercise.

I'm glad you listened to your body and didn't overdo it with the Jillian Michaels training. Smart move!

I know the next few days will be really hard, but I am sure your employee is very grateful for all the support that you're offering. What a great boss/friend!

Feeling sad today...

Thursday, March 08, 2012

Well, today I am feeling rather sad. One of my most trusted employee's husband died last night at the age of 41 from a heart attack. He went into the hospital Monday night during the first heart attack, had a stint put in, was sent home yesterday afternoon and died around 7 last night. My employee had gone to school last night and came home to her husband lying dead. They were married 12 years and were a very close couple.

I found out about this as I came into work this morning and had to carry on until I left work at four. It is just so sad. I am so worried about her and know she doesn't have much money. My husband and I talked it over and want to help her with the funeral expenses. She has a bad heart (only 46) and we are so worried about her. We know she will be really worried about the funeral expenses. She has been an excellent and one of our most trusted employees and we think this may be the best way to help.

Hold the people near you extra tight tonight, you never know when they (or you) will go.

Also, take great care of your body. He told us he was borderline diabetic. He lost a lot of weight but the both kept smoking...not sure at this point what caused it, but it could not have helped.

This is so sad. I am glad you will be able to help out financially. Maybe you could talk to the funeral home and pay them anonymously and do it that way. She may feel that she should pay you back if she knows.

My husband's uncle was mowing the lawn and had chest pains. He came into the house and called 911 and died and his wife had a heart attack seeing him. She was heavily sedated for his funeral and her doctor did not want her to attend. We just don't know when our time here will be over.

Acupuncture (pic) and Running...

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

I went to another foot doctor last week for a second opinion on my recent bunionectomy, toes, and pin poking on the bottom of my foot. He said my big toe isn't touching the ground due to scar tissue. The next toe over is trying to overcompensate and move in the direction of my big toe. He gave me a rubber/gel divider to wear all the time between my two toes. The pin may take a while to dissolve but it won't hurt my arch and if it isn't bothering me I should leave it alone.

So, this morning I received my third round of acupuncture on my right foot. We are focusing on the scar tissue. My doctor also advised me to get vitamin e and rub it on the scar twice a day.

Here is a picture of my foot with the needles in (they are not in deep)...

You can see how my toes are not going in the right direction. It's is not affecting my running at all and my foot doesn't hurt.

I ran 6 miles today in 58.43 minutes! I am speeding up. Tomorrow I am going to run a shorter distance and work on speed some more. It is supposed to be in the upper 60's - yayyy!

Hope you had a great day.

I had a roller ball on a handle to use on the scar after my foot surgery. I remember as a teen, we used a ball deodorant. The ball was at the top of a bottle to roll the deodorant around. If you could find an empty bottle that would work. A health care place charged a fortune for one to use on my foot.

How awesome! Your being free of foot pain, your 10K time, and your courage --- I'm not afraid of needles, but I have supersensitive feet and couldn't handle that acupuncture.
You're rockin,

Forty Pounds Lighter!! My thoughts on my journey so far ...

Monday, March 05, 2012

I have officially lost forty pounds. It took me 1 year and 2 1/2 months to do it, but I did it and it is gone for good.

It is an odd feeling being forty pounds lighter. In some ways, I feel like I did before I lost the weight. I think my brain is still trying to "catch up". Every time I try on a new outfit, I feel odd grabbing a size 4 or 6, like I won't be able to fit in it...but I do. People around me are just starting to say that they have noticed and I am three pounds away from my ultimate goal weight of 121 pounds.

I don't mind getting on the scale at the doctors office anymore (I always dreaded that before!). I think my metabolism sped up, I can consume more calories and not gain weight.

I am working on speeding up my runs. I thought I would run faster after losing weight but it is still taking hard work to do it. Oh well, something to work towards!

The one thing I have consistently done throughout this whole process is track EVERYTHING that I eat. A lot of times the total cals were way over what I should have consumed but I still logged everything. This includes alcohol which is a beverage I enjoy quite a lot (especially red wine). I have learned to eat and drink in moderation. I rarely eat a whole serving when dining out. I feel full a lot faster and acknowledge the feeling instead of ignoring it, eating too much and feeling stuffed and bloated. I have learned what types of menu items to order when dining out and consistently order those items. I pack my lunch every day for work. I have my "staple foods" on hand at all times.

Finally, you, my sparkbuddies, have been key in making this happen! From all the cheering, to all the great advice, to sharing your personal journeys with me. I couldn't have done it without you! You are my greatest advocates and you mean the world to me.

Thank you so much for all of your support!

I Am Back From Texas...

Sunday, February 26, 2012

San Antonio was awesome. We had such a great time! It was very relaxing. The first two days the weather was fantastic - in the 80's. The second two were real cold - 40's. We didn't anticipate it and didn't bring our winter coats! We still had a great time with my BFF and her husband. I ate chicken tacos every day! One night for dinner I had tilapia tacos with chipotle - they were the best I ever had. Three out of five days I stayed in my calorie range, the rest I went over 500/600 calories. (margaritas, refried beans and mexican rice - yum!) I got exercise in, but know it wasn't enough. Today I started back on my strict food regimen. Needless to say, my husband and I are both done with Mexican food for a while! I am proud to say that neither of us had nachos the whole time we were down there. That was amazing! I am glad we gave it up for lent, we both would have eaten them every day!

We got two days of running in. One day was outside - we ran 4 miles. The other day (today) was on the treadmill at the hotel. I ran 3 miles in 27.23 mins! I have gained my speed back, now I am going to try to run faster than last year. After running on the treadmill and seeing how much harder I push myself, I have decided to spend more time on my treadmill at home. My ifit module has trainings for speed, so I am going to set it up and use it.

My son said Roxy really missed us. I could tell - she ate part of the bottom of my dresser :( He said he wasn't home a lot - school and work - and he didn't walk her. That explained the dresser! I am going to take her to work with me tomorrow and Wednesday and let her run in the playground and walk her at lunch. If she doesn't get her exercise, she chews furniture!

I hope you had a great weekend!

I love the way you are able to enjoy yourself without guilt over things like that delicious Mexican food. Sounds like a wonderful trip, cold and all. I've been very busy and then very sick, so haven't been doing more than SP basics. :-) But even on my worst sick day, I got up long enough to track ginger tea, a few crackers, and all my water.

Silly dog! They have their ways of letting you know they're displeased with you.

How is your foot doing? emoticon

    Welcome home!

Princess will go outside and stay out for a long time. We fasten the door where she can push it open with her nose. She goes out and lays by the gate, against the side of the pool or under a side deck. Dogs definitely need their exercise.

The neighbor has a Yorkie and a white dog that he keeps inside and two dogs that he keeps in a pen outside. Princess and the Yorkie run along the fence together and then run back toward the house. When she hears the dogs outside she whines to go out.
