OMG! I just signed up for the Disneyland Half Marathon...

Saturday, February 04, 2012

What a weird feeling! I feel so gutsy right now and at the same time I think I lost my mind!

I pulled the DisneyRun registration page up and read that the September 1/2 Marathon was 62% full. So I thought, "I still have time to think about it". Then I saw that it was cheaper if I signed up by February 28, so I thought "I still have time to think about it". Then I read that the payment is non-refundable and thought "maybe I should wait and be sure that I can do it".

...Then this other little voice inside my head kept saying "Just do it!" That little voice got louder and louder! I thought of all the things I have learned in the past year at, mainly how important it is to have goals. I thought about how this goal would keep me going and my weight off until at least September (lol)! It was like I got kicked in the pants - "JUST DO IT!"

So I keyed my credit card numbers in real quick and hit "send"!

There is no turning back now.

Ironically, as I pulled up my Sparkpage, my background picture stared me right in the face:

"I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it." OK, Jillian Michaels, I am going to trust you on this one!

I am so excited for you! I almost thought about doing it myself:) I would love to do it with you but I think I'll leave that as a goal for 2013. When I first started running, I loved it so much that I did 3 halfs in less than 2 years and ended up injuring myself. So please go slow in your training and get one of those free guides if you haven't already. I still run a little now, but only a few miles at a time. I can't wait until I can do a race like the you are doing again. I would like all my vacations to be destination races one day. Best of luck to you and I know you'll have a blast!

My brother and the Disneyland Half Marathon...

Friday, February 03, 2012

My little brother, 42, who lives in San Diego, came over to the East Coast for four days on business. He met us for dinner last night. We had a great time catching up. He runs almost every day and said he would run the Disneyland Half Marathon with me in August this year. My bff was supposed to run with me but she now has a work commitment. So, it looks like I am going to California!

Woot! That's going to be fun!

I'm okay. I didn't exercise because I didn't want to get too far from the house. I increased my calories today and I think I was burning all the calories I was eating. My nerves can do a number on me.

Bz times but I am still on track!...

Wednesday, February 01, 2012

I finally got a small moment to blog...Just got a flat, waiting for my husband!

It's been a crazy week. Started with my son's 21st birthday weekend celebration, then yesterday I had to go to Long Island, NY for business. That was a 3.5 hour drive each way! I packed all my food for the entire day in a cooler so i did great on my cals. Today I packed my running stuff and ran 4.2 miles during lunch break. It was 72 degrees in Delaware.

I am so thankful to have the spark tracker phone app on weeks like this. It makes it so easy to keep up.

I hope you are doing well on your journey!

Good job on staying on track. I am having my food go through me within an hour after eating. It just means more planning time-wise of any obligations I have.

Whirlwind Week, Running, and My Son's 21st Birthday...

Saturday, January 28, 2012

It's been a few days since I blogged, I haven't had a lot of time to go on the computer!

I did finish the January Jumpstart Challenge yesterday, I didn't get a chance to exercise at all Thursday between work and going out to dinner with friends.

Last night I went to a Pampered Chef/Tastefully Simple/Sell your gold/silver party! One of my old employees had it, it was fun catching up. She and her husband are hardcore runners - he won the Delaware Marathon the first year. There were other runners at the party too, it definitely was motivating to me.

There is a running club in Southern Delaware called the Seashore Striders Club. They have races all year. I ran in one last summer. I am going to sign up for a couple during these winter months. I find that I am more focused when I run races. And, they are a really nice group. I don't know of any around where I live in Maryland.

Today I cleaned my house, next I am running 3 miles outside (it is 50 degrees). I consider this cold, but am doing it today because FitForMyFamily thought my feeling cold at 50 was so funny! Then I will be off to buy my son a birthday gift & strawberry torte (his favorite) - he will be 21 tomorrow! He is my youngest. He has to work til 11:30 tonight and then is going to park his car at his best friend's house and go order a drink at one of his favorite restaurants. They live and hang out in a small college town so they can walk everywhere. I think a bunch of us are going to join him at midnight, so I am going to need a nap at some point today!

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Hehe, I definitely know how it is to feel cold outside and then have someone start talking about their sub-freezing temperatures like they'er warm days. Really puts 50F into perspective when someone is running in 10F weather.

Happy birthday to your son! I know I'm feeling a little strange knowing my son will be 21 next month and my youngest will be 20 in March ... no more teens. They grow up SO fast!

Congrats on your finish! Sounds like some really full days. I was at a wonderful workshop today with some wonderful people. I enjoyed my meals and managed to stay well within my range; getting a lot better at it away from home!

Hope you got some rest before partying! emoticon

Day 27 January Jumpstart Challenge and SparkPeople Live Meeting...

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

SparkPeople Toning Video Pilates Hips and Thighs (Day 5)
SparkPeople Dumbbells Video (Day 3)
Consumed 1151 cals today

Today I gave my foot a break after running 3.1 yesterday. I am going to run it again tomorrow. I did two different toning videos.

I worked a pretty full day, had a nice dinner then went on the SparkLive meeting. It was very interesting. It centered on working out outside and mainly focused on running which I love. I do not like to run outside when it is real cold (60 and under for me). I use my treadmill. I was glad I ran outside yesterday when it was 54 degrees and will run more now outside at that temp. A good tip I learned tonight was to put my running clothes in the dryer before I go outside so they start out warm. By the time I warm up from running I will be set. We also went over wearing 3 layers. I did that yesterday and started out good, but then sweated for over half of my run. I wore a cotton tshirt for the middle layer, I think I need to grab something else. I was wearing an underarmour jacket and may only need only 2 layers when it's in the 50's. I did share that a friend of mine died last year while she was running during right after a big snow storm. A snow plow truck hit her. The driver didn't see her. It was a real tragedy. So, to all of you who like to run outside - please be careful!!

The idea about the dryer is a good one. I am cold when it is below 68 degrees. I often wear a sweatshirt and coat to walk in when it is freezing. Don't forget that you lose heat out of the top of your head, so a knit hat may help you to conserve your warmth, mittens or gloves too. I bought thermal underwear and sometimes wear them to bed if we are using the wood stove and the fire is going to die down. The sheets feel cold to me and it takes me forever to get warm enough to sleep when I am cold. I also bought microfleece pajamas for the same reason.

I know you are talking about running, not sleeping. As long as the outer layer keeps out the wind, you should be okay with a sweatshirt and jacket. On colder days, T shirt or thermal top, sweatshirt and jacket.

It makes me smile that anything under 60 is cold for you. I get cold really easily, too, but I'd think that running in the upper 40's and any of the 50s would actually be quite pleasant. It's good that you've got some tips so that you might be able to run outside more often now, though.

I'm sorry to read about the death of your friend.
