Day 25 January Jumpstart and Getting Back to Basics...

Today I packed my lunch for work and ate breakfast and dinner at home. I had gone almost an entire week eating out due to vacationing in sunny Florida, so I was so relieved to be making my own food today. I made pretty good choices while I was gone, but I still will never know what was added at the restaurants. I gained 2 pounds so I definitely have to get back to basics!

I had to work longer hours today to catch up, then grocery shop, then do the laundry. I didn't get my run in. I did run everyday on vacation so it was probably a good time to take a break. I got everything done so I should be back on track with my cardio tomorrow. It's 8:45 and I am just sitting down for the night!

The weather is supposed to be 50 and sunny tomorrow. I am planning on running tomorrow morning on the treadmill and taking Roxy on a nice walk tomorrow afternoon after work.

    I'm guessing that those two pounds will disappear rather quickly. You seem to know exactly what works for you to lose weight.

    That 2 pounds is probably mostly water. Restaurants use a lot of salt. With all the work and chores you accomplished, you still got a workout!

Day 24 Jan Jumpstart and I am back!...

30 mins plus walking at 2 airports!

My Florida vacation was absolutely wonderful! It was 82 degrees while I was there everyday and I got to miss a snow/icestorm here at home!

I ran 3 miles Thursday and Friday morning while in Punta Gorda and then danced at a club Friday night in Captiva. Saturday I ran 4 miles and then biked 37 miles (3 hour bike ride)! My husband and I biked Captiva and Sanibel Island plus some off the road trails. The bikes were not that great (hotel provided) but we did it! After dinner, we sat in the hot tub a long while then were asleep by 9! Today we went to a spa in the morning for massages then flew home. I did pretty good with eating, too. I ate a lot of fish. I did have tortilla chips at a mexican restaurant, but I had fish tacos for dinner. I had some alcoholic beverages but did get my exercise in. I definitely was more attentive to what I was eating. I did order coconut cake at the Bubble Room on Captiva Island. I could smell it when I walked in. I had four fork-fulls (mainly the icing) and left the rest. Yayyy! It was enough and I enjoyed it. I loved the SparkPeople Tracker application. I used it everyday as I ate. It helped to keep my focused. My husband was funny after we biked. I told him we burned 1300 calories. He thought it was wrong and should say we burned a lot more! Yeah, welcome to my world!

So, today I was back to a little lower calorie range. I will weigh myself in the morning, but am planning on it taking another week to hit my first goal weight.

I did read some of your blogs and tried to reply. Some times I was able to, other times my phone would be on the I will catch up with all of you this week! From what I read, it sounded like you all were doing wonderful and on target! Yayyyy!!

    Ah. You were a little south of where I am, and it is a beautiful area. I have friends in Punta Gorda who began to plan for renewal the day after the 2004 hurricanes blew through. They did a great job down there. And you've done a great job of staying on track throughout! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Day 18 January Jump Start Challenge and a Deer in the Road...

I planned on working out when I got home today...

I worked all day then got a manicure and pedicure on the way home. Then, I hit a deer! I was on a small road near my house and it ran out right in front of my car. I thought "keep the wheel straight, it's going to hit the car then the windshield". It hit the front of my car, bounced off of the front into the air and to the left off the road. It was dark and there are not any street lights so I drove the rest of the way home. At first I felt sad that I killed a deer. Then as I drove I wondered how much damage my car received. I have a little convertible and was really surpised that the deer didn't end up hitting my windshield. I had my son come downstairs to look at it first, I didn't want to see a lot of deer guts on it. There was only a couple drops of blood. The grill got damaged (it's plastic) and I have a dent on the side. I had to call the police to get a report for the insurance company. I didn't get everything done until 9 and I have no desire to exercise this late at night.

That was enough!!

PS I had watched the 20/20 episode on car/deer accidents. They said most injuries occur when the driver suddenly turns to the left or right to try to avoid a deer. They said it is best to drive straight ahead into it. That's what I did. The policeman was surprised at the limited damage on my car.

    What a frightening experience. I'm so glad you're OK, and your car is relatively OK. Maybe the deer is too if the damage was minimal.

As I was driving home last night on I-95, a car about 500 yards ahead of me seemed to brake, swerve and he did a 180 from the left to right and back to the left, winding opposite direction in the median... luckily, he didn't hit anyone and he was o.k. too, but that's what happens when you overreact at high speed (he probably saw or thought he saw something in the road), so good job focusing on driving the car, you kept your wits about you (and thank 20/20 and all those other news magazine shows too). Keep up the great work! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Sorry that happened to you but there was nothing you could have done. I'm glad you had the presence of mind to do the right thing and keep you safe.

My only run in with a deer happened when a huge stag decided to run on top of my car while it was parked in my driveway! If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it.

    You did the perfect thing. Sometimes you just have to let it happen because you are the number one priority. I grew up in the country and we were always told to never swerve for animals. That is when most accidents occur. I am so happy to hear that you are alright, other than the sadness you feel for the deer I'm sure.

    A woman in our church has a PT Cruiser and her husband hit a cat. It cracked a large place under her bumper. You wouldn't think a cat would do that much damage, but it did. I am glad you are safe.

    Oh, dear! I'm so glad that you didn't get hurt, and that you knew exactly what to do to minimize the damage. Good job! And now your SP friends will know what to do, too. Thank you! I've lived in an area where deer/car collisions are common all my life and had never heard that advice.

SparkPeople Upper Body Video X2

Yesterday I ran 3.1 miles in 35 mins, and did 2 different SparkPeople toning videos. I cleaned the house, then went out to dinner and to a friend's house to watch a movie with my husband. It was a whirlwind day, and I was happy I got my running in! I didn't get a chance to blog! I did overindulge last night on crab dip and bread - it was ssooo good. I actually ate 2000 cals! I knew I burned over 500 calories running so I enjoyed every bite! It was also the second day in a row I ran, so I gave myself a break today.

Tonight I have to start packing for my Florida trip - I leave Wednesday. The temp should be in the high 70's during the day -- every day while we are there. We are going to Punta Gorda to celebrate my father's 70th birthday and my parent's 50th anniversary. On Friday, we are going to head to Captiva Island.
We love it there, it is so relaxing. We will bike Captiva and Sanibel Island. Back and forth it is a total of 30 miles, but the bike path is all flat so it's not that hard.

I am happy I bought my IPhone. I love the SparkPeople app. I will be able to track all my food and exercise. I can easily get on the web site too. I should also be able to keep up with you guys!! Maybe I will even get a blog in! I am going to miss my SparkPeople Live Meeting :(

I will do 10 min toning by memory at my parents, and at the gym in the hotel on the weekend. So, that's my plan!

Where there is a will, there is a way!!

    That sounds wonderful!

Not being able to do an exercise correctly concerns me. My computer stops and starts during the videos and a swirl shows on the video, but the video doesn't move forward. They are very hard to follow. I am afraid of injury when I do an exercise wrong and that to me is a drawback for doing videos. That is why I liked that man, Joel Harper. I think Coach Nicole doesn't do a thorough demonstration of what is supposed to be done. I think she should do a frontal and side demonstration before we try to do the repetitions so we can see what she is doing. One dimension sometimes causes me to miss when she adds another step to the exercise we are doing.

Coach Nicole's 7-Minute Upper Body Workout with Dumbbells

I am going out with my husband to dinner (date night - yayyy) and I want to make sure I get my daily blog in. Today I felt really good, mainly because of what I was wearing which was a black sweater dress, black tights, and awesome new boots. Everyone at work said I looked good. I will get my husband to take a pic later tonight and I will post it...

I also got my hair done earlier in the week and have received a lot of positive comments about it. Several people said I look a lot younger which I say Yayyy to!

I didn't get any cardio in today but did one of the videos to work my arms. I do love toning. I won Coach Nicole's cardio blast last summer and never opened it. I got it out yesterday and plan on trying it this weekend. This challenge is re-acquainting me with the DVD player. I have tons of different exercise DVDs that I had forgotten about. They are nice to use in the winter months.

    Looking good is a high in itself.

I haven't worn a sweater dress since high school. I used to like wearing tights in the winter. I couldn't find pantyhose in my size in December.

I think my days of wearing fashion boots are over due to the foot surgery I had causing swelling in the left foot even after all these years have passed.

I'm looking forward to seeing the "new" you.

I like your description of your outfit and feeling good in it. I was sorting some health magazines and found an article that said women feel better about themselves in certain clothes, even certain underthings. I had to laugh. I have a spectacular red silk slip that goes under my favorite winter skirt; I love wearing it!
