Day 3 of January JumpStart and My Son's New Puppy...

Today my calories were a little low because I missed my afternoon snack.

My son (who recently bought a townhouse) bought a new pitbull puppy. She is 14 weeks old. I had to watch it Saturday while he went with my husband to a Flyer alumni game in Philly. I was getting the house ready for our new year's eve party so she was in the crate most of the time. Roxy growled at her a lot in the beginning and then ended up ignoring her the rest of the time. His puppy, Bailey, is already bigger than Roxy. She seems like a very loving dog. She liked all the company we had last night. She was very friendly. I am not sure why he ended up with a Pitbull. Three days ago he said it was the only type he didn't want. He is working on training it but I am going to make sure he goes to training classes with her.

Anyway, my son and his new puppy slept over, so I ended up taking her for a real long walk and part run during my afternoon snack time. She did run really well along with me on the leash. I don't run with Roxy anymore because she will be going good and then stop dead. I hurt my foot that way 2 years ago. Roxy does walk really fast which does get my heart rate up. And she can walk for an hour and want to keep going. I told my son how good his puppy did with running, and reiterated taking her out for a lot of exercise. I am a huge fan of Cesar Milan (I met/saw him last year at one of his talks) and exercising dogs makes all the difference in the world with their behavior.

I completed Day 3 of January JumpStart. Today I ran for my 30 cardio. This program should help me get back in the swing of running.

    Bailey looks adorable. I hope Roxy doesn't get jealous. I like watching Cesar Milan's shows, he's so smart about dogs. I'm thinking about getting one of his books or dvd's because it's been a long time since I raised a puppy.

  Yes my trainer tells me that but this is the day I begun My P90X. My two sisters look awesome both Started last year around June 2010 with right foods and other activities. I can't wait but I did work around track today for 30 minutes.

It's Been a Couple of Insanely BZ Days!...

Whew! I had a great time and got a lot done, but am so New Year's Day has arrived. I have been running around like a nut!

I didn't even "log in" on the 28th! It was such a pain to go back and track my food but I did! I did really well the past 2 days on my calories even though I didn't get a chance at the time to log my food. I am now in the habit of knowing when and what to eat - yayyy! One night I had a few rum and diet cokes and italian bread and still managed to consume 1250 cals for the day! When dining out I have learned that baked/steamed seafood is my best choice! My husband and I ended up dancing for 3 hours with a bunch of friends that night. Yesterday my foot was sore (must have been on it to much) so I didn't run on the treadmill or do cardio.

I had a bunch of friends over last night for New Year's Eve. I served baked ziti, meatballs, a huge veggie tray, fruit tray, fresh salsa and chips and various desserts. The party started at 8 PM, so I ate my dinner before the party and snacked on the veggie tray and drank cranberry juice in my new favorite wine glass. I did have three water wafers with this fantastic smoked salmon/cream cheese/dill dip one of my friend's made - it was delicious! My cals consumed yesterday were 1285. - Yayyy!

Today my foot is feeling a lot better, so I will be doing my cardio, toning and take a little run on the treadmill. I am excited about doing the January Jumpstart program. I am happy that I can do it at work, too. It may be the way to fit everything in.

    What a great idea of the cranberry juice in a wine glass. We have family that pushes stuff on us. We didn't go anywhere this New Year's eve. My husband and I had problems with alcohol, so we no longer drink. But for the grace of God, I might be dead from drinking. I like the taste of mixed drinks and wine too much.

You are doing so well! Keep up the good work, your goal is in sight.

First Day of SparkPeople Jan Jump Start Challenge and Making Dreams a Reality...

I had a very nice day off. I ran two miles on my treadmill, did a cool down walk then worked out to a SparkPeople cardio and toning video. It was my first day of the January JumpStart Challenge. Several of my SparkBuddies are participating so it will be a lot of fun. I am looking forward to cheering each other on.

I also went to the mall. My husband bought me a very big ring for Christmas. I exchanged it for a smaller one. It was beautiful but I honestly don't know where I would have ever worn it. And, I have small fingers (size 4 1/2) so it looked like too much. He was fine with me exchanging it. He is such a good guy. I also had to exchange a coat I bought for one of my sons. Afterwards, I ended up in the petite section - I bought a new pair of pants. Today I entered the "120s" so I felt like it was a nice reward to myself. And they were on sale :) I am definitely enjoying clothes shopping again!

My foot is doing fine with running. It's a little red when I am done, but it doesn't hurt. What does hurt is my upper legs! I guess I missed working in that area when I did strength training. The SparkPeople toning video helped to stretch them out afterwards.

My family went out to dinner tonight. My son who moved out was able to meet us for dinner too. It was really nice. I had lobster tail. I ate multigrain dinner rolls tonight (I usually don't, but I was really hungry). That's why my calorie intake was higher than usual. I worked out a lot this morning so I am not worried about it. It was a really good dinner.

I also got on a SparkPeople Live meeting. My computer kept throwing me off. I think it is time to get a new one (this one is about 10 years old, I don't think it is compatible with the newer technology). I am going to look at upgrading it this week. There should be a lot of good sales out there. The meeting was good with what I saw of it. We talked about dreams - making them a reality. I have found that goals are so important. They kept me focused all last year, and I am looking forward to completing new ones this year.

    Wow, you were busy!

My husband bought honey crisp apples and navel oranges that are bigger than my fist. They both are delicious.

Hubby brought the trash up through the basement and the bag broke. We were just about to leave for church and I had to help clean that up at the bottom of the basement steps. What a mess! This was cleanup after the dog and cat, so we were late to the church service.

One Year Since I Drank Coffee...

Consumed 1123 cals today.

It occurred to me today that it has been one year emoticon since I drank coffee. I did not intentionally decide to quit, it happened when I started running. emoticon All of a sudden, I did not have an appetite or desire to drink it.

I used to drink a nice, big mug of coffee every morning. Every once in a blue moon emoticon I would drink a skinny latte' emoticon in the afternoon. I started drinking coffee many, many years ago when I was 18 and attending college. emoticon I still love emoticonthe whole thought of it. Actually, I loved it so much that I have a coffee bar in my bathroom - complete with it's own sink! I love emoticon the whole ritual of buying it and preparing it in the morning. I loved Trader Joe's Breakfast Blend the best. I have several really cool coffee mugs. emoticon I used to put one sugar cube and 1 tsp fat free half and half in it, so it wasn't super high in calories. I loved the feeling I had after I drank it - full of energy. emoticon I still love the smell when it is brewing.

My husband is glad I do not drink it anymore, he thinks it wasn't good for me. emoticon I never read anything that said the amount I was drinking was bad. He drinks hot tea everyday - how different can they be?

Anyway, I am sure that some day I will go back to drinking coffee again. emoticon emoticon

    I drink it daily and get withdrawal headaches when I don't. I bought Coffee-mate Mocha and put that in it with two packets of Truvia, otherwise I use skim milk and Truvia in it.

I love the taste of McDonalds mocha with the whipped cream and chocolate drizzle on top of that, yum! The calories are through the roof though.

10 1/2 Weeks After Foot Surgery I Lost 21 Pounds & Am Running Again...

Words can't begin to describe how excited I am right now! After 10 1/2 weeks of foot surgery I have lost 21 pounds and I ran 2 miles today! And, it was all the little things about running that I missed that made it so exciting...

Putting my running socks and shoes on, dressing in my running clothes (which are now too big - yayyy!), filling my water bottle, stepping onto my treadmill, plugging in my ifit module, sweating (yes, I missed that too!), the adrenaline rush and running to my ipod - each song was so inspiring and seemed so brand new! And, a funny thought occurred to me fifteen minutes into the brain usually is trying to talk me into stopping or cutting my exercise short as I look at the clock. Today I wanted to keep going! I didn't want to stop running at mile 2 but knew I had to because I am just getting back into it. Perspectives change so quickly when one is not allowed or able to do something!

I then decided to look back at my running log book . I began this quest December 13, 2010. I started out walking with running peppered in, going 2 miles per day. My goal last year was to run a 5k. My husband was skeptical at first. He didn't think I would use the huge treadmill I bought on my own. I just remember not liking the way I felt (tired, slow, icky) and I was determined to do it...and it worked!

10 1/2 weeks after foot surgery I am doing better than I did when I started. During this past year I have completed five 5k's and a one mile race. I have lost a total of 34 pounds. And I did this with a bad foot! I am proud of my accomplishments.

Now on to next year:

By this time next year I will have completed five more 5ks, competed with a relay team at the Delaware Marathon and completed my first 1/2 marathon at Walt Disney World. I will also lose the remaining 9 pounds.

I want to thank all my SparkBuddies for their support - especially while my foot was on the mend. You guys kept me going! You are all wonderful!

I didn't know you did your running on a treadmill. I run in the house just a little bit chasing Princess when we are playing. My abdomen flops and makes a disgusting noise, but though I am tempted to quit exercising at times. I know it will help me with my health as I age.
