Dr's Visit and Shopping...

Friday, December 09, 2011

I consumed 1206 cals today and lost another pound!

This morning I went with my husband to his Dr's appointment to see how he was healing. He had his prostate removed in September due to cancer. He is doing remarkably well and the Dr was quite happy. He said he is healing quick because he is younger and in good shape. It was a nice visit. I then went to work to finish getting everything together for my Christmas party for my staff next weekend. I ordered them Bath and Bodywork's gels and lotion and hand sanitizer. Now I just have to bag them when they come in.

My husband and I then went to the mall to pick up a gift for his best friend who will be very surprised tomorrow night at his 50th birthday party. My husband is preparing the toast this evening. It will be pretty funny since his best friend is quite a character.

We went out for lunch at a restaurant in Philly today. I had a really good bbq grilled chicken on a salad. We also went out for dinner at the mall - cpk. I had the norwegian salmon with wok stirred veggies. I would have rather ordered the greek pizza on thin wheat crust, but I am really close to my goal weight and don't want to blow it. I also reminded myself that I am going to an Italian restaurant tomorrow night for the surprise birthday party.

I still have my foot boot. It's really hard to walk around on it. The mall was particularly hard. I told my husband I wish I had my knee scooter back! I am wondering how I am going to do my Christmas shopping this year - it is gonna be tough. But, I will figure it out!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Congrats on another lb and on husband's good recovery. I went out for lunch today, decided to make it my bigger meal, and ordered grilled chicken with tomatoes, broccoli, and asparagus. It came with a salad, and I asked for the dressing on the side. Isn't it great to know that we can eat out and not blow all the progress we've made? emoticon

WooHoo Moment - Another Goal Completed - Yayyy!

Consumed 1163 Cals Today.

This afternoon I ran into Costco for a few items. While I was cruising the aisles, I noticed Gloria Vanderbilt corduroys. I love wearing cords in the winter. I decided to grab a size 6 in anticipation of fitting into them by Christmas. I was getting ready for the SparkPeople Live Meeting. One of the things we do every week is share a WooHoo moment. I decided to try on the pants - what would it hurt? Well, they fit! Yayyyy!! One of my goals this year was to be in a size 6 by December 9th! The date was decided way before I had foot surgery. As the date got closer, I thought I was close but thought it was going to take a little longer. And here, I got there 2 days before my deadline!

I could not have done this without SparkPeople and all of your support!
Thank you!

Make sure you give yourself credit for your amazing amount of discipline, too! I'd imagine that most people who get sidelined by a surgery probably gain weight rather than losing. You did GREAT!

BZ day now off to a meeting...

Tuesday, December 06, 2011

Consumed 1087 cals today

Limped around work today (with my foot boot - ugh)! Got out at 2 then went to a couple furniture stores for a new bedroom set for my son's old room. Then went and got a manicure - the lady asked me THREE times if I wanted a pedicure! The boot is pretty obvious!! I told her I would LOVE one but I am not allowed. I got some Roxy time in and dinner and now I am off to a meeting.
It is already dark and rainy and the meeting place will be about a 45 minute drive each way. I am going to listen to my Styx CD while I drive :) I am taking my night time snack with me to eat on the way back.

Hope you had a great day!!

You will probably have to do physical therapy. The therapist should have had instructions from your doctor. Something doesn't seem right to me in the communications between the doctor and the physical therapist. They work wonders on people and I had to go back to mine more than one session (a number of visits over a given time, not just one visit).

I would discuss this with your doctor.

Foot Dr Visit and Dinner with Old Friends...

Monday, December 05, 2011

I consumed 932 cals today.

I was low on cals today because I didn't eat a fruit with breakfast - in a rush, forgot to grab a clementine on my way out the door to work - and I didn't have a night time snack - out late with friends.

Today didn't start out real well. I went to my foot doctor, expecting him to trim the dissolving pin pressing on the bottom of my foot (sorry if this is too graphic - it is gross) and telling me I can walk on my treadmill and start running soon.
What I got was a soft cast because my toe is moving to the left on top of the next toe due to scar tissue. I have to wear it for at least a week a long with a boot. :(
I can drive, thank God. I had donated my shower boot to someone who doesn't have insurance a couple weeks ago when I got my stitches out, so now I have nothing to cover it with so it won't get wet! I left limping with the boot, feeling like I was back to square one. I have to go back in 3 weeks to see how it is going. He said it is 85% healed. And, he wasn't happy that the physical therapist had me peddling an exercise bike.

I worked til 3 PM then went home and took a 2 hour nap with Roxy. I had to get a grip on my current situation and stop feeling sorry for myself. My foot isn't hurting and it has only been 6 1/2 weeks since my foot surgery so I decided I had to get over it. I have lost 19 pounds since the surgery and decided to again just focus on losing weight through Christmas. It is definitely a positive in this long recovery process!! I also thought about a young girl I saw in PT last week who had obviously suffered from a stroke. She was working on her leg and foot so she could walk better. She couldn't move her arm at all. She was working really hard and excited at her small milestones that day. Her hurdle is so much higher than mine I thought. It put my small problem in perspective as I thought about it today.

My husband and I went out to dinner with friends we haven't seen in at least 15 years. They were in our wedding - in fact, the male friend was my husband's best man. Life separated us for a long time. We found them on facebook. We spend 4 hours talking away in the restaurant. I had broccoli and shrimp and salad. (my staple food when I go out to eat!) It was really great catching up with them.

And, the feelers I sent out last week to replace one of my managers has already resulted in a potential replacement. I am going to meet with her outside the office to see how she could fit in with the team. That is helping me to feel better - I need to change it up and feel like a plan is falling into place.

So, that was my day. I feel like so many things are happening each day -- can't wait til Christmas week when I have four days off in a row!!

Hope you are having a great week!

I'm sorry you got disappointing news at the doctor. It seems like your PT would have known what would and wouldn't be acceptable at this point in your recovery. I admire you for making yourself find the best in your situation, though. That's not always easy.

I don't want to add a damper to your doctor not being happy with your foot, but I was thinking about you carrying stuff with your son's move and the stationery bike. Please be careful.

Not long after I went back to work after my foot surgery, a co-worker had a bunion surgery. It went wrong and she had to have the surgery done over because the screws and whatever they put into her foot had problems. I don't know the details of it and I lost touch with her. She was almost over her recovery time when the pain came back and she began to limp. She did go to a different doctor for the second surgery.

Remember the bones have to properly set and knit together, extra weight on the foot is probably not a good thing.

How I am not hungry on 1200 or less cals per day...

Sunday, December 04, 2011

I ate 1135 cals today.

I got a lot of cleaning done at my house and my older son's new house. My younger son (still living at home) is hanging all the Christmas lights outside. When he is done, he is going to help me bring the exercise bike up two flights of stairs. He is going to carry the heavy end and we are going to see if we can do it without bothering my husband. My husband is still helping my other son at his new house tonight.

My friend Christina is still taping a commercial so I am not sure that I will get to see her tonight. I don't like to drive in the dark, especially when I am not familar with an area.

Someone remarked on my earlier blog that they would be starving if they ate 1200 cals a day. I have not been hungry. I think it is because of what I am eating and how many times a day I am eating. Plus I drink A LOT of water. and I track EVERYTHING I eat on SparkPeople. Most of the time, I track before I eat.
Here is a typical day:

Breakfast:
Nutrisystem oatmeal
1/2 cup skim milk
1/4 cup blueberries

Lunch:
Nutrisystem Turkey Dog
1 slice whole wheat bread
mustard, relish
1 1/2 cups tossed salad (carrots, radishes, lettuce, cabbage)
1 tblspn Kraft Free Ranch Dressing
4 ozs Breakstone 2% cottage cheese

Afternoon Snack:
Yoplait Light Yogurt

Dinner:
Nutrisystem Thick Crust Pizza
1 cup broccoli
1 cup pink grapefruit

Night Snack:
Nutrisystem Popcorn

Nutrisystem is helpful because it gives the correct portion size, which is a lot smaller than what I was eating. It also trains you on which foods to eat at different times of the day. I think that's why I got "stuck" after I lost 13 pounds earlier in the year. I add a fruit to every breakfast and dinner. Sometimes I also have a fruit instead of dairy for afternoon snack. When I am done the last Nutrisystem order, I will keep eating this way, and just sub homemade entree's where the Nutrisystem food used to be. I do this now when I go out to restaurants - which is pretty frequent and I continue to lose weight.

So, basically, I feel like I am eating all day. I do pack my lunch and afternoon snack EVERY DAY during the work week and on the weekends if I am running errands. Hope this helps!

Have a great night!

One thing it's important for each of us to remember is that the necessary calories for a person vary quite a lot. I personally would not ever be eating as low as 1200 calories unless I was on a doctor-controlled plan. Even at the low end of my ideal weight for my height, age, and build, my maintenance low end is over 1500 calories. Given my current weight and activity level, my range is actually up in the 1700-2000 for weight loss. (Maintenance would be up at 2500.)

If we're tall, for example, we shouldn't be trying to do 1200 just because "everyone else" does 1200.

And as BOBBYD31 said, "if you are eating healthy foods you can eat lower calories and feel full". It's amazing how quickly junk adds up calories without a lot of nutrition, while lots of fruits and veggies are filling, nutritious, and don't add up nearly so fast.

if you are eating healthy foods you can eat lower calories and feel full without the cravings. i would caution you on eating less than 1200 calories, that it is unhealthy and you should cycle your calories between you high and low range or you weight loss will slow or quit in the long run. be sure to meet all you protein, carbs and fats that spark has set for you and you will do fine
