The Test of Two Restaurants in One Day!!...

Between my mom and my husband's birthdays both landing on this weekend, I am on a restaurant tour! I went out last night with friends to dinner. Today I went to Firebirds for lunch - was able to have an under 200 calorie salad - complete with shrimp and strawberries and no dressing. I stayed away from the bread, and didn't try my mother-n-laws cheesecake.

Next we are off to Olive Garden. I pulled them up on SparkPeople and found the lowest calorie dinners. Besides Linguine with Marinara (which seemed to plain to me), the low cal ones that caught my eye were Venetian Apricot Chicken with Asparagus & Broccoli (400 cals) and Salmon with broccoli (501 cals). The chicken was also suggested on the SparkPeople website. I put both into my food tracker to see how each would pan out with what I have already eaten today. I will end up either way with low carbs and low protein so I am going with the low cal choice - the chicken. I am going to eat a plate of tossed salad with a smidgen of dressing. I am going to skip the side of pasta.

This choice will keep me in my calorie range of 1100 for the day. Just like all the articles tell us, it does pay to plan ahead on eating at restaurants. I have been amazed by some of the huge calorie totals on some of the entrées. It is hard to watch someone else order something that I saw was high on calories on-line. I don't tell them unless they ask - and they don't usually ask! emoticon

This restaurant stuff is a lot of work, I will be happy tomorrow when I eat all my meals at home!!

    Mmmm...Venetian Apricot Chicken. emoticon I like that meal, and in my opinion, it comes with much too much sauce. If I order with the sauce on the side, it makes it even lower calorie.

Four Weeks Out from Foot Surgery and Walking Roxy Again...

It has been four weeks since my foot surgery. I took the day off of work. I did strength training exercises for two hours. I put on a pair of Ugg boots that were normally big on me. They slid over my wrapped foot easily. I took Roxy for a ten minute walk. emoticon It felt great and I didn't have any problems. I am definitely on the road to recovery! My big toe is still numb - it's a weird feeling. I can move it.

Today we are celebrating my veteran husband's birthday on 11/11/11 - veteran's day. emoticon One of my son's picked up the birthday cake and petit fours. I will be eating one of my nutrisystem desserts.

We are going out to eat AGAIN with friends for dinner tonight. I went on-line and checked out the restaurant's menu. I am ordering:

Shrimp Jammers emoticon
Shrimp sautéed in garlic, snow peas, pecans, carrots and glazed with a sesame dressing. Served with lettuce wraps. I am going to ask for the sesame dressing on the side.

So, yes, the whole celebration is around food!

Happy Birthday to your husband and I think it is wonderful that your foot is healing so quickly and that you are pain free walking on it. I didn't fare as well.

Keep up the good work. I finally lost 2 pounds.

Good Day...

Consumed 1392 cals today. Ate really good. Went out to a restaurant with 10 friends for dinner - had 2 glasses of merlot with my dinner - a strawberry, mandarin orange grilled chicken salad. I was still low on fat and folates!

I am walking more, foot is doing good. Swelling has gone down a lot. Tomorrow I am going to find a shoe that fits - the boot they gave me to wear is way to big - my foot is falling through it! I am also taking off work to go through my closet and get my goodwill donations ready. I am going to get rid of a lot of clothes - I have WAY to many.

Tomorrow is my husband's 49th birthday. He still hasn't decided what he is wants to do this weekend. We are going to San Antonio, TX in February. I am surprising him tomorrow with Alan Jackson concert tickets to see while we are there.

I consumed 1030 calories today - and I am eating all day long!

Hopped on the scale this morning, lost another pound. I am coming up to a weight I always get stuck on when I am losing. I will not give up!! I have 12 pounds to go!

I made my husband and two sons one of their favorite meals tonight. Mexican chicken. It's chicken breast coated in chili powder baked, then topped with queso cheese and salsa, I served it with mexican rice. The only thing I could eat out of what I made them was the broccoli and grapes. I had nutrisystem bbq beef, beans and rice along with them.

We talked about balancing our meals (protein, grains, dairy, fruits) tonight at the SparkPeople live meeting. I got some ideas on other foods to add for my proteins. I add an extra protein to my breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. I have been eating morningstar veggie sausage, shrimp, and veggie dogs. I am going to start drinking protein shakes for some of my afternoon snacks. I am doing good with my dairy intake. I figure that it is good for healing my toe too.
For next week, we have to take pictures and talk about our packed lunches for work. It is nice to share ideas!

Well, I am going to go enjoy the Country Music Awards! Have a nice evening!

    It sounds like you will get past your weight hurdle this time. I used to get to 165 and then each time I got there, I found out I was pregnant, lol. I'd be in trouble if that happened now.

I have started to look at Spark Recipes when I have the ingredients on hand to make the recipe. I had some broccoli and came home from church and had planned on barbecue chicken breasts. My husband took a shower and went to bed. He said he thinks he is coming down with something and he didn't want supper.

I cooked the breasts with Sweet Baby Ray's honey barbecue sauce and now I am cooking a recipe "roasted broccoli" for my son. He takes fresh asparagus and puts olive oil on it and lightly salts it with kosher salt and pepper and roasts it. It is very good. He cuts potatoes into wedges and does them the same way on the grill, sometimes he adds more seasonings. So I am waiting on the broccoli to cook. I stuck the broccoli back into the fridge when hubby said he was going to bed. I have 4 breast halves cooked, so it looks like I won't have to cook supper tomorrow night. The problem is it is 11:29 at night and I didn't exercise today. It looks like I won't get in my exercise for today.

Day 25 of Recovery and Dreaming of Running and 30 Year Reunion Coming Up...

Yesterday I consumed 1164 calories and today I consumed 1050 calories. I am staying on track. I am working full-time again - getting rides to and from work from my son and husband. I make sure to allow time to eat breakfast before I leave and pack my lunchbox with a balanced lunch and afternoon snack. I still have 1/4 case of bottled water in my office. I drink 2 per day at work. My husband is doing a great job at picking up fresh fruit, yoplait light yogurt and Breakstone's Cottage Doubles for me while I can't grocery shop. I did manage to make my family a ground turkey meatloaf in the crockpot yesterday and a roast chicken in the crockpot last Thursday. I am using the crockpot for their meals because I have to elevate my foot when I get home from work. Actually, I am used to using it almost every day during the work week - makes it a lot easier when I get home.

Last night I had a dream that I was running up the road in my development. I didn't realize I was running at first and then realized what I was doing and stopped. I really miss it and worry that I am not going to have the stamina to do it when I am healed. I know it's a crazy thought, but it still is there. Tonight my husband is at a meeting. I am so tempted to sneak and just walk on my treadmill - but I won't because I don't want to mess my foot up. This recovery is definitely a test of patience!

I have my 30 year high school reunion in 3 weeks. I was in charge of our 20th reunion. It was a lot of work! I didn't volunteer for this one. It is going to be casual dress which is nice. We don't have to go out and buy dresses. I am going to go shopping for a top to wear with my favorite jeans when I can drive again next week. By then I should be able to wear shoes! A friend from high school - who I have known since first grade called me today to make sure I was going. She lives in Ohio now and is really funny. I am trying to get another close friend from high school to go. She is Greek. I loved going over her house in high school. Their family is just like the one on "Big Fat Greek Wedding". I worked at her family's restaurant for five years. I haven't seen her in a long time - found her on facebook last year. My best friend who lives in Texas can't make it up. My husband knows a few husbands who are going so he is happy.

Boy, I really rambled tonight! I am signing off now to watch Biggest Loser.

    Maybe you could sneak and hop on one leg on your treadmill?? emoticon
Seriously, though, once your foot can handle the running, I think the rest of your body will catch right back up to pre-surgery condition very quickly.
