Day Four of Recovery...

Today was awesome! NO PAIN at all, and I am off of the tylenol with codeine!
I got to sit out on the deck a few times today - it was hot out there! And, I got up the stairs (great tricep work-out) and got a shower.

I started going through chair exercises on-line, courtesy of the Chair Exercise Spark group. I am going to put together an exercise plan with them tomorrow. I can use my weights and resistance band with quite a few of them.

I also go to the foot doctor in the morning. It will be the first time I see my foot unwrapped.

    Hi R. Mom! Didn't that shower feel great?! So glad to hear you doing so well! That's what you get for following doctor's orders, but try not to overdo it too soon (I know you, you eager beaver!). Day Three of Recovery...

Everything went very well today - very small amount of pain, most of the day my foot didn't hurt at all. My Dr. called me tonight to see how I was doing, and was very happy to hear my progress. He reiterated staying off of it, which I will.

Spent part of the day talking to my BFF. She told me that she is now running 3 miles a day, and I inspired her after our 5k race in September. She wants to run the Disney Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon with me next September, so we are going for it!! It looks like a blast.

My husband booked a trip for us to go to San Antonio, TX in Feb for 4 days. I have heard it is wonderful, it is something for us to look forward to as we both heal from our surgeries.

Nutrisystem went well today, too. Enjoyed rotini and meatballs for dinner, just got done eating my evening snack - a chocolatey peanut bar. YUM! Ate 1100 cals today.

Tomorrow I am going to start doing chair exercises. I am getting a lot of great tips from the Chair Exercise Spark Team.

    The Disney race sounds fun. Isn't it great to know that you've encouraged a friend?
I'm glad you're enjoying the Nutrisystem. It's nice that it actually tastes good.

    I thought about your post on goals, (I was going to write your goal post, lol!), I was recommended to this Sparker's page to watch a video on discipline. It seemed to go hand-in-hand with what you wrote about goals. (not goal posts, Ha Ha!)

    Hi R.zMom, Glad to hear you're taking your recuperation one day at a time and getting a lot accomplished even tho' you're laid up! Don't forget, drugs are good!! Glad you're enjoying your Nutrisystem.... it was a rainy day here so got a couple of movies in... nice day to do nothing!     If I pretended I was a movie star, I would like to be someone like Kathy Bates in Fried Green Tomatoes. Towanda!

I liked that movie and The Notebook which was recommended to me by a woman at the hospital when my Mom was taken there. I didn't know the woman, but maybe I looked stressed or something. She said I would understand after I watched it. My Mom has Alzheimer's disease.

I rarely watch movies, the last one I watched was with my son and his girlfriend and was called, Bridesmaids.

Another favorite was an older movie, Secondhand Lions. They might be considered sappy by some, but I liked them.

So if you want my list of movies while you recover, there it is.

I know the site you recommended was about goals and how to achieve them. I guess I just got caught up in the visualization part. I have a great imagination and I am not so goal-oriented that I hyper-focus on attaining something. I used to imagine I was a maid to a millionaire and got paid $100 bucks to clean the toilet. There are some things that I have to have some way to motivate myself to do it.

Day Two of Recovery...

Today went well. My foot isn't hurting very much. I am attributing it to using the knee cart when I have to get up - which isn't much. Been on the web most of the day, did some shopping (ordered a chair exercise dvd, sparkpeople cookbook and resistance bands). Nutrisystem is going well - enjoyed lasagna for dinner, eating about 1100 cals per day. I add a lot of veggies and a couple fruits and there is snacks too so I am not hungry. Also making sure to get my water in. One positive about this surgery is that I am focusing on my food intake and balancing it out. Still not eating enough folates!

My older son, Joe helped me and my husband a lot today. He is buying a townhouse about thirty minutes away. I am going to miss seeing him around, but, I know it is time and going to be good for him (he is 23).

    Glad to hear you are doing well today. I know surgery is not fun, and recovering is worse. I tend to shop on the internet quiet a bit following surgery which is a blessing to have it right at my fingertips, exciting getting the boxes in the mail, I just surprise myself sometimes by what I end up with. hehehehe

Day One of Recovery...

Well, I got one last walk in with Roxy before my foot surgery. Doc said surgery went well, found a cyst in my joint, too - so I have to be extra vigilant about staying off my foot this week. I got up the stairs to the main floor of my house pretty quickly. Went backwards on my butt, lifted myself up with my arms - pretty nice little work out all-in-all. The knee scooter is absolutely wonderful. I can go from the couch to the bathroom all by myself. I want to go out on the deck for a while, but, my husband won't "let" me - said I will regret it later if I do too much. Nutrisystem day 1 is going good, too. It's very quick logging their food on SparkPeople. And, it has already proven to be a good idea - my husband ate his favorite Chick Filet sandwich and fries, while I ate a salad and fettucini alfredo! Since I can't complete my weekly goal of running 15 miles per week, I am hoping to complete my new goal of losing 2 pounds per week.

So, as promised, here I sit on my laptop reading and enjoying all your blogs. Keep writing ladies!!

    I don't know if your foot is in a cast, mine was. They wanted me to lift the leg at the hip while sitting. Listen to the advice about the pain medication. It masks the pain.

My foot is deformed at the heel from my falls. I have very little strength in it and have to hold onto something to get up from the floor. If they fitted your crutches to you before the surgery, you should be okay. They were supposed to do that for me and make me walk on them, but they didn't. I was sick after the surgery and was sent home without having had any insturctions on how to use my crutches.

    I sadly can relate to surgery recovery. I shattered my left knee cap 18 months ago and required 2 surgeries, a few nights in the hospital and MONTHS of physical therapy.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back into the water.....I tripped and broke my right knee cap a few months ago. I have had one surgery already, in PT, and have to have another surgery in a few weeks to take out the hardware that has moved. :(

On the positive side.....I'm walking in my first 3k this Sunday. Well hobble might be more like it, but I'm signed up, sponsored and gonna walk as far as my poor broken knees will allow me to go.

Hang in there! Don't push yourself too hard, when you think you are feeling well do a little, but NOT too much. The pain meds give you the illusion that all is well, when in reality, they are masking the pain.

Listen to your body. Remember to drink LOTS of water as those pain meds (god love them) also have a tendency to back one up, (I take stool softeners just to help with the frustration that this might cause) Trust me it is NOT fun to be "backed up", to be in pain, and to try to lose weight on top of it all.

This will pass and you will be back up and running in no time. Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm off to Physical therapy, to get ready for my big day Sunday. See you soon I'm sure!
