Thought for the Day

Sunday, February 26, 2012

In the midst of sorrow and trouble, this life has many blessing and enjoyments that have come from the hand of God. Think of the blessings we so easily take for granted. Life itself; preservation from danger; every bit of health we enjoy; every hour of liberty, the ability to see, to hear, to speak, to think, and to imagineóall this comes from the hand of God. Even our capacity to love is a gift from God. Most of all, God has given us the gift of Christ. What should our response be? We can put it in one word: Gratitude! But how do we show our gratitude? By giving back to Him a part of what He has given us. What have you done lately to show your gratitude to God for all that He has done, and is doing, for you? God is interested in every part of our life, not just the spiritual part. As we live by the Holy Spiritís power, we need to submit every aspect of our life to God: emotional, physical, social, intellectual, vocational. The Holy Spirit is the source of your new life, so keep in step with his leading. Donít let anything or anyone else determine your values and standards in any area of your life.

I have started WRITING a daily "grateful for " list. Not just mental but putting it in writing somehow draws it more to mind. It has made a big difference in my being present with the day. This week I am planning to add " seeing the best in others". We live in such a negative society and we could sure all see things OTHERS should change--but I want to look at the positive in each situation. We can make small differences in our lives and it rubs off to others, I'm convinced.

So true -- whenever we want to complain we need to take a look around us and we'll soon realize there are those who are truly hurting, and we need to count our blessings and give thanks!

Definition of Listening

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Webster's definition of listen is: "1) to pay attention to, to give ear, hear, tune in; 2) to hear with thoughtful attention, heed; 3) to be alert to catch an unexpected sound." Today Remember that God gave us two ears and only one mouth!
