Balance....

Friday, March 04, 2011

I would love to know if life balances itself out. The joys balancing the sorrows; the busy schedule balancing the boring times; the friends & family all around balancing the loneliness; the mountain-top experiences balancing the valley hardships; and the crises balancing the peaceful times... If it does balance out, I sometimes feel that so much of life is spent in too early or too late, too noisy or too quiet, too much or too little, too few or too many... Wouldn't it be grand to be right in the middle most of the time... I think early in life you have more of the mountain-top experiences and later the valley hardships arrive preparing you soul.

And I was hoping you had found balance and would share the secret!! I guess for me balance of living just life was ups & downs and you don't really enjoy the mountaintops if not for the valleys you've endured. Of course no one wants to just live valleys or lows but coming out is good--think of fights & making up??!!
The balance I'm hoping to find is not spending so much of my life THINKING about food & exercise. What to eat or not to eat, or shop for or when to get my exercise in or what is best for me now strength or cardio. I hope some day I just am in a routine that know what is best for me and FEELS right without all the planning of it. DON'T KNOW, OBVIOUSLY!! Brenda

Funny, I'm on a peak at 69! YES, it balances out; but not on our timetable or according to our whims and plans. It's just life. Being in the middle all the time you wouldn't have the lows; but neither would your experience the real joys! I don't want to live flatlined! It's nice to know that after the storm, there's clouds, silver linings and even rainbows! emoticon
My darkest valley's were in my 40's. Statistically there are more happy people over 50 than under; I know these years have been great for me! A lot of freedom comes with age if you guard your health. Be well, Joy

Does anyone else do this...

Thursday, March 03, 2011

So I basically track my food everyday and basically record everything...but when I go over, I add that food & the calories to the next day...Hey they say 3500 less for 1 lb. but don't say I have to cut them all in one day.....Just saying, I would like to put the calories on the correct day.... Anyone else do this?

I track in today's chart everything that gets eaten before I go to sleep at night. :)

Not quite. I have counted 3am eating as breakfast, though! -Marsha

No, I guess I never thought of that -- I start each day fresh.

I don't track my food here anymore, but I did use the system for a while to learn how to handle portion control. And I am honest with myself about how much I'm eating. I don't think it's a good idea to pass on the excess calories to the next day - as Sue points out, you'll be starting off the day at a disadvantage, calorie-wise; plus, even if you do mamage to stick to the reduced calorie allotment, your body will be annoyed at not getting its full quota of fuel for the day (and as we all know, an annoyed body has ways of letting us know!). I prefer to write off my days of overindulgence as lessons learned and start off the next day on a clean slate... just my two cents...

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I bite the bullet and record everything when it happens. That way, too, it makes it easier to get back on track the next day, instead of feeling as if I've woken up already over my goal!

Disguising blessings...

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

Our creator, full of humor, is unsurpassed in disguising blessings--often camouflaging them as crosses, challenges, disappointments, defeats, and unanswered prayers. You can usually only recognize these with hindsight.

I will work my program...

"Even when someone's choices do not include me, I can still choose to love both of us by letting go and letting God loosen the ties that bind me to sadness and frustration. Detaching from the pain of losing an important relationship is difficult. It helps to remember that I have a constant, consistent life partner who will never leave me--my Higher Power". So tired...

Monday, February 28, 2011

Started thundering and lightening here at midnight. I was up till 4:15 a.m. with the Shepherd at my head shaking and panting and the Golden at my feet doing the same. I have to babysit from 7 to 5. I hope I can nap when the baby does. Looking for goodness in this, I hope I am too tired to have much of an appetite. Have a great day everyone!

I love the sound of thunder but our oldest Shih Tzu is terrified and paces and pants until the storm is over. That is not conducive to sleep. So far we have -7 and knee deep snow so it will be a while before we have a rain storm.
