I'm worried about getting through the holidays, my friends! I've increased my caloric intake this week, along with my increased activity level! Both are going fine for the moment...Although it seems my weight has reached a plateau! Nonetheless, I'm not discouraged in the least! I know my body is adjusting, as I feel leaner with increased strength & agility! My only concern is...gettin' through these holidays! There'll be food, spirits, & more food, everywhere I turn! At home, work, & elsewhere! There won't be any gettin' around it...so I need to strategize my way through it! This is where I need your help, my friends! I will begin a list...& I'm counting on my dear friends to continue this list w/helpful hints!

1. Position myself AWAY from the food/goodies table at a party! Put the focus on family & friends...& good conversation!
2. Make good choices at the buffet table! make certain to choose veggies, lean meat, & more veggies! Veggies should comprise at least 2/3 of my plate!
3. Keep a bottle/glass of water in my hands at ALL times, & take sips often!
4. Eat a little something BEFORE the party! Preferably a protein & a carb to stabilize blood sugar & keep hunger at bay. No need to arrive hungry & be tempted by goodies!
5. If I know I desire something that I get only once a year...have a 1/2 or 1/4 portion! Share the rest with another! I can still have it...but not break the caloric bank!
6. Eat lightly the day of a big party or gathering! I use my veggie soup the day of...'cause I know it's filling w/less calories & good nutrition!
7. Arrive to a party or gathering LOOKIN' fab! I'm showing off my weight loss accomplishments! I know I look good & the complements will remind me of how far I've come! This will remind me to keep up the good work!
8. If I'm hosting, I've got full control of the menu & appetizers! Practice what I preach!...& offer plenty of fresh, nutritious, & wholesome foods! Not everyone will be excited about having some of their favorites messed with...but I know I'm doing the right thing!
9. I'm going that "extra" mile when it comes to my daily fitness regime! If I know I'll be eating a bit more on a certain day (Thanksgiving comes to mind!)...I'm giving my routine an extra 5-10 minutes...with perhaps, an extra oomph of energy tossed in! I know why I'm doing it...so I perform the exercise with a SMILE on my face!
10. If I bring a dish to a potluck party...I plan to bring something I can eat w/out guilt! I'll do myself right & everyone will RAVE that it's low in calories & so tasty too! I'll be the in the bunch!

Hello My fellow Sparkers!
I haven't blogged in a while...not because I haven't had anything to say, mind you! As my hubby puts it, I have the gift of gab! Smiling....
Well, things have been kinda hectic in my world! Many of you may not know this, but my husband & I've had our home up for sale for the past 6 months. Anyone familiar with this process knows it's very grueling in this dismal market. It's a buyer's market at the moment...& this means potential buyers run the show. What I've found is that they are often rude, inconsiderate, ignorant, & demanding. They expect a bargain at every turn, & they genuinely believe that everyone selling their home is in financial distress (which we are NOT!). They offer nothing near the value of your home...& expect that you'll graciously accept whatever they offer! Needless to say, we've NOT sold...& the house will be off the market this Wednesday. NOT soon enough for me, I may add. It's been a very disappointing experience. I've told my husband that there must be a reason why we're meant to remain in Ohio for now...we just don't know what it is, just yet. (our plans are to move to SW Florida). We'll put the house back on the market next April & try again. For you see...the sunshine state is calling! (wink & smiling...)
I've made some dietary changes this past week...mostly due to the fact that since I've been exercising more; my lower calorie range seems insufficient. Consequently, I've not been feeling well & my energy level has suffered. I've gone back to eating 1200-1500 calories/day & I'm feeling MUCH better!
Hey, I'll get to eat more...one way or another!
I'll be having Thanksgiving dinner at my home with my daughters & their families. The menu will be simple, healthy, & bountiful! My wish for you all is that you're able to spend the day with those you love, as you give thanks & praise on Thanksgiving Day. I encourage you to take a moment to think of all you have to be thankful for...& remember those that are less fortunate. I am truly blessed in my world today!

Today is my 3 month Sparkversary! Ninety days of talking the talk & walking the walk! It's been an awesome adventure thus far! Since most of us will be celebrating Thanksgiving in two weeks, I'd like to celebrate my SP anniversary by giving thanks & expressing my most heartfelt appreciation for the abundance of good fortune in my life!
I've lost 27.4 lbs these past 90 days! And I've done it without drugs or surgery, & by eating regular store bought foods! I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to use this incredibly wondrous network called SPARKPEOPLE! The tools, the program, & the community have all been a most precious gift!
I've downsized from wearing a 3X to XL in most of my clothing items! I began this journey wearing a size 24 WP in pants...& now I'm in a size 18 misses petites! I've dropped 4 sizes in underwear, & I went from a DDD to just a D in bra size! Can you even imagine! Woohoo! I'm the incredible SHRINKING woman!
I'm giving away the reusable larger clothing items to Goodwill for those in need! I give thanks that I'm fortunate enough to have sufficient income to purchase new items. I am thankful for my education & employment!
I am still walking at least 1 hour every day! My pace is a little faster & my stride is a little longer! I am grateful I have my physical health & can walk without discomfort or pain. Walking has become an intricate part of my daily life, & each step reminds me that I'm alive & well! I look forward to getting out...sometimes alone, sometimes w/my neighbor, & with my hubby! My pedometer readings are always 15,000 steps & beyond! I'm a walkin' fool!
I'm tracking what I eat & I always try to keep within my calorie range. It's been a bit more difficult because I've dropped my calorie range to 1000-1350, as as to maintain a 1-2 lb weekly loss. My choice! My diet consists mainly of wholesome & nutritious foods, which a primary focus on the SUPERFOODS! Again, so grateful for the nutritional tracker on SP! It's been a very useful tool! If you're not already using it, please START & use it consistently! There's no better way for you to stay on track!
I continue with the Official 28-day Bootcamp Workout Challenge! I feel my body getting stronger & my muscles becoming more defined, & I have STAMINA now! I'm thankful for my physical health...& I'm LOVIN' my body! I feel I'm building a new & improved me! I recommend everyone take up a challenge today! It gets the heart rate up...& the blood a pumpin'! Thank you SP for this fabulous opportunity!
I'm so appreciative for the support of my family! My hubby continues to be encouraging & supportive, & he's my BIGGEST fan! He's told me that I'm getting my womanly figure back! (blushing) He walks w/me daily & has lost 10 lbs to date! My grown daughters are my cheerleaders, & have told me how proud they are of me & what I've been able to accomplish! I'm so grateful for their love & support! This Thanksgiving, I'll be serving "slimmed down" versions of our favorites, & everyone's on board with it! We're dealing with a serious issue this year because my precious 8 y/o granddaughter has just been diagnosed with Celiac's disease. So, we'll be making significant dietary changes so she'll be able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. I'm so thankful that her weight loss & GI issues weren't something more serious. We worried all summer & prayed...& our prayers have been answered! We'll deal with the dietary changes...not a problem!
I'm forever grateful for all my Spark friends!!! You're always here for me...to listen & lend support, 24/7! You hoot & holler to help me celebrate; you validate, support, & encourage me, with every step I make! By helping me motivate, you reinforce my resolve! You're the wind beneath my wings, my friends! You give me strength to continue! Thank you for sharing your humor, your wit, your wisdom, your memories & personal stories! I feel I've gotten to know many of you over these past 3 months, & I feel very fortunate to have met you all! I believe there's a reason why certain people cross my path as I journey through life, & I'm so very grateful that you've all come my way! YOU BRING ME MUCH JOY...& GIVE ME MY SMILE EACH DAY! I love you all, my friends!
One of the biggest changes in my life has NOTHING to do with weight loss, but nonetheless, has been a most MONUMENTAL influence in my pursuit for good health & wellness! I'm setting limits! Yep! Who knew that just saying "NO" could be so liberating!!! I'm working on de-stressing my life...& I'm so much happier! This falls under the category of "taking care of me"! My suggestion to you is...just say no! (smiling)
Another change that has NOTHING to do with the weight loss but has EVERYTHING to do with my continued good health & well-being! It's the overall change in my attitude & the way I live my life! Now I'm CHOOSING to see the glass is HALF FULL...& I'm living ONE DAY AT A TIME! The present day IS the day I'm focused on today! Yesterday is gone...& tomorrow isn't here yet! It's TODAY that I need to tend to! Another liberating lifestyle event! It gives me the FREEDOM to enjoy the day & celebrate me! I feel empowered!
MY FELLOW SPARKERS, as you continue on your journey, please realize that it's NOT only about losing the weight, it's NOT only about the food, & it's NOT only about the numbers on the scale! It's about CHANGING your life! It's about TAKING CARE OF YOU! Do whatever it is that makes you happy! Let go of the excuses! Let go of the resentments! Resolve now to look at life differently! When you change how you look at the world...you choose to see the world in a whole new light! Only then may you find your true joy, my friends! Only then will you finally begin to live! I am forever indebted to SPARKPEOPLE for giving me this amazing & incredible opportunity to find my joy!

This is a recipe I used in my Weight Watcher days. It's been revised by me a number of times! Please note: Quantities are approximate, so feel free to adjust the amounts on anything & more to your liking! Enjoy!
1 cup chopped onion
8 teaspoons chicken granules
8 garlic cloves, minced
8 cups thinly sliced zucchini
3 cups thinly slice carrots
3 cups chopped tomatoes
2-3 cups chopped cabbage
6-8 teaspoons fresh parsley
2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1 teaspoon pepper
In large stockpot, combine onion, broth mix, & garlic; cook & stir until onion is translucent. Add remaining ingredients & stir to combine; cover & cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Add 8-10 cups of water & bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, & cook until vegetables are soft, about 20-25 minutes. Remove 2-3 cups of veggies from pot & puree...then return to pot. Heat & serve!
Note: I often add some low sodium chicken broth after it's been sitting a day or more in the fridge cause it thickens some.

My Dearest Spark Friends,
I am overwhelmed with emotion as I'm writing this with tears streaming down my face. Words cannot express the depth of gratitude I am feeling at this very moment. I LOVE you all, my dear Spark friends!
Let me explain..
I worked today, walked for an hour w/my hubby & then an additional 1/2 hour w/my neighbor, ate dinner, & sat down at my computer to get my Spark on. I did all the normal stuff, track food & fitness, did my challenge, got my points for the day...did the friend feed (OMG guys...you ROCK!) I never gave so many WOOHOO!!'s & CONGRATS! in my life!!! There is SO MUCH to celebrate today! You are ALL totally AWESOME!!! You're all doing so well!!!
I am sooooooooo proud of you!!!
Okay, back to my point! I finally look at my activity feed! Oh My Goodness!!! I had TONS of well wishes, congrats, & woohoo's! I had Atta girls & hoots & hollers! I just started crying.....I was sooooooo HAPPY! You all did this for me? I am speechless! Then, I see ALL these goodies & congrats! I see messages of celebration & congratulations!
I mean, I am OVERWHELMED with emotion! And I can only say...
